여성 이인(異人)설화 연구

Abstract

본 논문에서는 구전되고 있는 여성 이인설화 전반의 존재양상을 살펴보고 그 자료에서 나타나는 여성 주인공과 갈등 대상과의 관계를 중심으로 여성 이인들의 존재방식과 문제해결 양상을 유형별로 살피고, 이인으로서의 여성 인물에 대한 형상화의 특징과 그 의미를 고찰하였다. 먼저 여성 이인설화 의 개념을 규정함으로써 다루고자 하는 자료의 범위를 한정하였다. 본 연구에서는 전형적인 여성상에서 벗어남으로써 숨어있던 여성이 자신이나 자신의 가족들에게 발생한 문제를 해결하기 위해 특별한 능력을 발휘하여 특이한 방식으로 문제를 해결하는 설화를 여성 이인설화라고 하고 연구의 대상으로 하였다. 여성 이인을 하나의 여성 인물형으로 간주하여 논의를 진행하기 위하여 II장에서는 여성 이인과 대상과의 갈등양상을 중심으로 기존질서를 거부하여 대결하는 여성형:대결형 , 비일상적인 모습과 행동으로 수난을 당하는 여성형:수난감내형 , 갈등이 내재된 조력자 여성형:조력자형 으로 그 유형을 나누었다. III장에서는 각각의 유형별로 여성 이인의 존재방식과 갈등 양상, 문제해결 방식을 통하여 문제 해결의 의미를 살펴보았다. 대결형 에 해당하는 <손병사 모친담>과 <시아버지보다 점 잘 치는 며느리>는 각각 비합리적인 맹목적 통념을 거부하고, 비윤리적인 시아버지에 대한 순응을 거부하여 대결에서 승리한다. 그 결과 그릇된 기존 질서를 교정하였다. 수난 감내형 에 해당하는 <이인으로 바뀐 못난 여자>와 <원님의 문제를 해결해준 여자>는 신체적 결함이나 여자답지 못한 행동을 이유로 남편과 시집 식구, 원님 등의 권력자에게 수난을 당한다. 이 유형의 여성 이인은 문제를 해결한 후 갈등 대상과 화해하고 기존질서를 새롭게 재생산한다. 마지막으로 조력자형 에 해당하는 <구렁이 될 시아버지를 구한 며느리> 와 <가족을 내기에서 이기게 한 여자>는 탐욕스럽고 극단적 이기심을 지닌 시아버지와 권력자를 각각 회개시킴으로써 그릇된 가치관에 대한 반성을 유도하고 대안으로서 새로운 가치관을 제시한다. IV장에서는 3장에서의 분석을 바탕으로 여성 이인의 형상화 방식의 특징과 그 의미를 종합적으로 살펴보았다. 여성 이인은 언어 사용의 측면에서는 침묵과 자기 주장의 양극성을 지니고 외모와 행동방식에 있어서는 탈규범적인 양상을 보이는데, 이렇게 탈규범적인 여성 이인들이 가족으로부터 소외, 억압당하는 것은 여성에게 관념의 여성상 에 맞출 것을 끊임없이 요구하는 여성적 현실을 투영한 결과이다. 또, 그러한 기준에 부합하지 않는 여성의 모습을 한 여성 이인들이 오히려 뛰어난 능력을 발휘하여 일상적인 사람들이 해결하지 못하는 문제를 해결하는 것은 근원적 여성성의 발현에서 기인한 결과라 할 수 있다. V장에서는 구전설화에서 나타나는 이러한 여성 이인을 비범한 여성의 한 유형으로 보고 그 비범성의 성격과 발현 양상을 무속신화의 여성 신, 야담집 소재 여성담의 여주인공과 비교해 여성의 비범성이 여성 우위 고전 서사 장르에서 어떻게 변용되어 전개되는지 살펴보았다. 본 논문은 구전설화에 등장하는 여성 이인을 하나의 여성 인물형으로 보고 갈등 양상과 문제해결 방식을 분석함으로써 주체적 문제 해결자로서 여성 이인을 주목하여 여성 우위 서사문학의 여성 인물 전통 속에서 여성 이인이 가지는 의미를 가늠해 보았다는 데 의의가 있을 것이다.

; This thesis treats the general shape of existence of orally handed women eccentric narratives their ways of life and problem solving method by types through the analysis of relationship between the heroine and the objects of complex, and the characteristics and the meaning of women eccentric s configuration. First of all, the scope of this thesis was limited by defining the concept of "women eccentric narrative". The women eccentric narrative is an narrative which functions as a peculiar method of problem solving of themselves and among their families by showing unexpected abilities generated from the escapement out of traditional "hidden" lives. For this study, in Chapter II the women eccentrics are categorized by three types in accordance with their behavioral characteristics of problem solving ; i.e., ① the Confrontation Type aggressively showing down to the existing order, ② the Suffering Endure Type passively bearing their sufferings without any resistance, ③ the Halfway Type immanent with complex. Chapter III contains the meaning of problem solving of three types of eccentrics mentioned above by analyzing their way of life, shape of complex and method of solving problems. The <Tale of Mr. Son s Mother> and the <Daughter-in-Law, Better Diviner than Husband s Father>, as typical examples of Confrontation Type, wins and corrects the existing order through the rejection against unreasonable ideas and disobeyance to the immoral husband s father. The <Silly Woman Altered to an Eccentric> and the <Woman Who Solved the County Magistrate s Problem>, as the Suffering Endure Type, suffer from their husband, families and magistrate on the pretence of physical faults or unwomanish behaviour. The woman eccentric of this type reconcile with complex objects and reproduce the new order from existing ones. The <Daughter-in-Law Who Relieved Her Husband s Father Expected to be a Serpent> and the <Woman Who made Her Family Win the Game>, as illustrations of the Halfway Type, present new value system through the efforts to have her selfish husband s father and the man of power repent their misconducts. In Chapter IV, the characteristics and the meaning of woman eccentric s configuration methods are generally described based on the analysis in the Chapter above. The woman eccentrics hold both extremes, taciturnity and self assertion, in their linguistic usage ; and show out of normative pattern in their appearance and way of behavior. The final chapter describes the women s extraordinariness how it has been historically developed in the classical narrative genre regarding the women eccentrics in oral narratives as a type of uncommon characters. This thesis could not be a complete study, but it has a value that the meaning of women eccentrics in a narrative literature could be defined through analyzing the shape of complex and problem solving method of them. It is desirous more endeavors be followed for in-depth study on this subject.
