제스츄어(Gesture)에 의한 내면세계 표현

Abstract

인간 정신이 발달하면 할수록 사회와 문화가 다양해지고 복잡하게 변화되어 오히려 그 생성물로 하여금 정신의 주체성을 상실하게 한다. 현대 도시 속에 살고 있는 우리도 그로 인한 엄청난 정보 속에서 획일화되고 반복적이며 심리적으로 불안하고 긴장된 삶의 모습을 보인다. 그리고 현대는 인간의 본능적인 표현욕구가 억압되어져 전형적이고 표준적이기를 요구한다. 그러므로 그 안에서 전 시대보다 더 개인적이고 다양한 예술의 출현은 현시대에서 반동하여 탈출하고자 하는 의지로 보여질 수 있다. 따라서 예술가는 삶에서 실현되지 못한 것을 예술에서 실현하려 하고, 전보다 작품의 논리가 내면적이고 심리적이어서, 과학적이고 억압적이기 보다 친근하고 주관적으로 의미하는 깊은 것들이 현대 예술에서 보여지게 된다. 본 연구에서는 현 사회의 일원 중 한 사람으로서 자신의 억제된 감정을 표출하여 작가의 개성과 의식을 강조함으로서 존재를 표현하고 주체성을 찾고자 한다. 그리고 탐구된 내면과 의지를 작품제작을 통해 찾고자 한다. 이에 첫째, 순간의 내면감정이 예술작품으로 표현 가능한가? 둘째, 호염(糊染)의 방법으로 추상적인 제스츄어(gesture) 표현이 가능한가? 라는 문제제기를 통하여 작품제작을 하고 분석하여 연구자의 작품세계에 나아갈 바를 제시하고자 한다. 내면세계의 성찰을 위한 이론적 근거로 우리가 알지 못하는 무의식의 세계와 그것을 인식시켜 자아실현 시킬 수 있는 의식의 세계를 융의 심리학이론을 통해 분석해봄으로서 현 시대 인간의 마음의 구조를 알아본다. 표현 방법에 있어서도 내면세계 표출 욕구의 본능의 생명감을 보여줄 수 있는 추상표현에 대하여 연구함으로서 본 연구의 이론적 근거를 제시한다. 그리고 구성 이미지들의 효과적인 활용을 위해 화면 공간의 구성과 작품제작 재료인 호료(糊料)의 물성과 제스츄어에 의한 표현방법을 살펴봄으로써 본 연구자의 내면을 염색의 표현기법인 호염을 통해 효과적으로 전달하고자 하였다. 호염으로 추상적 제스츄어를 통해 내면세계를 표현하고자 한 본 연구에서는 다음과 같은 결론에 도달하였다. 첫째, 본 연구자는 내면구조의 의식과 무의식의 역할을 파악하는데 의식을 매개체로 하여 내면세계를 성찰할 수 있었다. 그리고 표현하여 자아를 찾으려는 욕구에 의해 자유롭고 솔직하게 내면의 감정을 작품으로 표현할 수 있었다. 그리고 내면표현을 위하여 추상표현주의를 통해 잠재적인 형상을 그대로 기술하는 자동기술법에 근거하여 추상적인 제스츄어 표현과 내면표현과의 연관성을 찾아 심적인 표현의 가능성을 발견하였다. 둘째, 염색의 기법 중 호염의 방법을 이용하였는데 추상적인 제스츄어 표현이 가능함을 알 수 있었다. 호염은 다른 염색표현기법 보다 호(糊)의 특성상 다양한 기법의 활용이 가능하여 화면의 마티에르(matiere) 효과를 줄 수 있었고 이를 통해 제스츄어의 속도와 방향을 그대로 보여주는 역동적 화면구성이 가능하기 때문에 제스츄어 표현에는 적합하였다. 따라서 호염을 통한 추상표현은 평면의 섬유공간 상에서 내면세계의 전달이 충분하였다. 현대예술에서 그 표현방법은 기법과 소재의 다양한 변화에만 치중되어 작가의 주제의식이 약해지는 경향이 있다. 하지만 예술작품은 작가의 철학이 담긴 의도가 강하게 전달될 때 호소력을 가지고 있기 때문에 기법은 표현수단으로 사용되고 무엇보다도 작품에는 작가의 주제의식과 철학이 담겨져야 한다. 앞으로 지금까지의 연구를 바탕으로 지속적인 연구를 한다면 본인의 문제제기가 실천되고 더 개선된 작품으로 보여질 수 있을 것이다.; A persons mental reliance weakens as their psyche becomes further developed. Such phenomenon creates a complex and versatile culture and society that is repetitive and psychologically unstable leaving one to ponder about ones true identity. Consequently, we have come to represent an urban life style that has become too standardized in a time where there is a flood of information. Today, our natural and basic instincts have been repressed and our expressions have become very standardized. Hence, we are reacting on this aspect for a more personal and diverse expression in art, trying to move away from such generalized notions in showing our true emotions. By doing this, we are expressing ourselves through art. Therefore, it is possible to state that one is endeavoring to create art that is less scientific and repressed but more subjective and psychological, showing ones personal psyche. This study endeavors to express a persons repressed inner emotions. It looks to find a personal identity through ones art. Therefore, a moments emotion is captured in the artwork. It is expressed in paste dyeing using abstract gestures. The unconscious state of the human mind has been analyzed here using Jungs theory on this subject. With this, research was done on abstract art as background information for expressing ones own inner emotions in fiber art. Here, the study experimented with surface space and paste dyeing. The study used the unconscious state of mind as a basis for experimentation in art expression. With this, it was possible to become more in tune with ones inner self. Furthermore, the study connected abstract gestures with subjective expressions. Abstract expressions were made possible using the paste dyeing technique. This particular technique was effective in creating different surface expressions. Kinetic movements were easily created giving direction and speed. Today, much emphasis is put on technique and medium. We tend to rely greatly on the changing trends of these two aspects in art. Therefore, the artists concept has become less important and at the same time it is losing strength. Through this study one has been able to realize that without an artists own philosophy in their work, the work cannot simply have life. The study is only a beginning to the work that will follow in the future.
