Modern people are living in a flood of information fed by newspapers and advertisements that arrive at the door every morning, myriads of videos that come the moment TV and smart phones are turned on. With the advancement in the Internet, people do things that were not even imaginable before so conveniently with just one click. The Internet was equipped with the current communication systems with the development of a mutual connection concept for computers and related technologies. It was in the early 1990s that the Internet was introduced in South Korea, which took the No. 1 position in the distribution rate of high-speed Internet connection network in the world soon after. Living in the 21st century, most people find a companion in TV or the computer in daily life and are exposed to endless reports on events and accidents in those media. Today the splendid development of civilization has put the video media at the center of human life and even interfered with the "act of seeing." Film and television, for instance, can alter people's perspectives of seeing as a man of power. Changes to the visual culture began with the philosophy of Platon, who believed that people and things they encounter in daily life are nothing but their complete and ideal replicas. Comparing the existence of replica to a shadow created by light in a cave, he argued that the images seen in the real world are already in the form of replica and necessarily distorted. Defining modern society as a society of consumption, Jean Baudrillard said that the value of a thing is determined by its sign and image in the society of consumption. According to him, images are considered as messages in modern society, and this world is filled with signs and images, the byproducts of modernity. The phenomenon of images being created incessantly has repeated itself and eventually made it impossible to distinguish reality, sign, and image. As a result, simulacre is created which is more real than reality. Simulation is defined as the operation of reality being converted. There is no longer the original and, in some sense, no distinction between the original and copy. In other words, we cannot figure out whether what we are seeing actually exists or is non-existent and virtual. When we are "looking at some object," its reality becomes ambiguous, and the meaning of seeing changes from believing to interpreting. A visual image is referred to as Significant, and the concept of object to represent the image is referred to as Signifié. Michel Foucalt borrowed the concepts of Significant(signifier) and Signifié(signified) first used in semiology by the linguist Saussure to explain a broad range of visual phenomena. Visuality has taken the central role in modern life. They started to introduce Significant and Signifié in art and solve the issue of what meanings should be included in reproduction-style paintings that used to simply copy. We often make an error of thinking by seeing the reality of a thing that is not clear, which inevitably raises a question about how to form a visual belief and make a decision. We selectively perceive things, see what is not there, and fail to see what is clear. When we keep thinking based on such an inaccurate perception, we face a problem, of which two elements are expectation and desire. An expectation for what we want to see has considerable influence on the way we perceive things. Memories of "I saw something" have a sort of building nature, affecting the current state or various situations of a person holding the memories including expectations, desires, living environments, and experiences. The memories gradually get distant from truth and change over time. A series of my works actively reflect the images I perceived in reality. As a member of modern society, I ponder upon the location and importance of a perspective to see numerous images fused and combined together in pictures, photos, movies, television, and the Internet and introduces my work containing the perspective I perceived. Visuality with desire inherent in it makes people believe in psychological truths and misunderstand that they are not real. As Jacques Lacan said, truth is not a captured result but in progress. Things with one's desire inherent in them continue to change, and he or she eventually realizes that they are not the truth. The photos I take via experiences in daily life and the short diaries I write produce the images in my memories that make the foundation of my work, "Thinking about Events." I am interested in the phenomenon that one develops a perspective completely different from the old records by seeing a physical medium or adding a psychological presentation stored in the mind. Through my work, the ordinary and familiar images in daily life communicate with modern society and promote thinking about the meanings inherent in what we see. By escaping from a presentative thinking and looking at the society from a different perspective that is not narrow, I attempt to think in a new, flexible way.-
