생활시설 직원들의 정신지체인 성(Sexuality)에 대한 태도 연구

Abstract

인간의 성(Sexuality)은 출생에서부터 시작하여 생애에 걸쳐 지속되는 생득적인 특성으로서, 정신지체인이든 정상인이든 개인의 정신능력과는 관계없이 모두 선천적인 성(Sexuality)의 범주 안에서 타인과의 관계를 이루며 살아가게 하는 것이다. 그러나 시설에서 생활하는 정신지체인들의 경우 시설 환경의 규제 때문에 지역사회에서 적절히 기능 하는데 요구되는 사회적 가치와 역할 및 성적 필요를 조절하고 적절한 사회성 기술을 개발시킬 기회가 부족하다. 즉 시설에서 생활하는 정신지체인의 경우 집단 생활을 하는 특성상 이들의 성에 있어서 제재적인 분위기에 있을 우려가 높으며, 이들의 성에 대한 시설의 부적절한 대응은 왜곡된 성의식과 성적 문제를 야기 시키기 쉽다. 특히 이들이 청소년기를 지나 성인이 되면서 자아개념과 성의식 형성의 부족 또는 손상으로 인해 발생되는 성적 욕구의 부적절한 해소로 인한 성문제가 심각하며 이들의 성적 욕구에 대한 적극적인 대응이 부재하여 문제발생과 방치의 악순환이 계속되고 있다. 이러한 생활시설 정신지체인들의 성문제에 접근하고자 할 때 고려해야 하는 점은 첫째, 정신지체인들의 실제 성지식, 성태도, 성적 경험 정도와 둘째, 정신지체인의 성에 영향을 주는 중요한 요인인 직원들의 태도를 파악하는 것이다. 이에 기초하여 본 연구의 목적은 생활시설 직원들이 정신지체인의 성을 대할 때 어느 정도 수준에 기초하고 있으며 정신지체인 성에 대한 태도는 어떠한지를 실증적으로 파악하고, 그에 따라 직원들이 정신지체인 성을 대하는데 있어 적절한 지식과 방법들을 필요로 하는지 알아봄으로써 생활시설 정신지체인들의 성문제의 해결과 예방에 적절한 접근방법을 개발, 실시하기 위한 기초자료를 제공하고자 하는데 있다. 이를 위하여 전국의 15개 정신지체인 생활시설을 임의로 선정하여 141명의 직원들을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하였다. 구조화된 설문지를 조사도구로 사용하였으며, 직원들의 일반적 사항, 직원들이 갖고 있는 일반적인 성지식과 태도, 생활시설 정신지체인 성에 대한 태도, 정신지체인 성에 관한 직원 교육과 프로그램 요구의 총 4부분으로 구성되었다. 수집된 자료의 분석은 SPSSWIN을 사용하였다. 태도가 어떠한가는 빈도와 백분율, 평균과 표준편차를 구하였고, 인구학적 특성 및 근무조건, 성교육 경험과 태도와의 관련에서는 t-test와 ANOVA를 사용하였다. 본 연구에서 얻어진 결과는 다음과 같다. 1. 생활시설 직원들이 갖고 있는 일반적인 성지식의 수준은 비교적 낮았고, 태도는 비교적 긍정적인 것으로 나타났다. 이는 생활시설 정신지체인의 성을 대하는데 명확하거나 일관적인 태도를 유지하지 못하게 하는 요인이 되기 쉽다. 정신지체인의 성에 적절히 개입하기 위해서는 전문가와 관련인 스스로가 성에 대한 정확한 지식과 바람직한 태도를 가지고 있어야 한다. 따라서 정신지체인 성교육과 함께 직원들이 스스로 성에 대해 긍정적인 태도를 확인하고 확립할 수 있는 교육과 훈련이 필요하다. 2. 생활시설 직원들은 정신지체인들의 성적인 욕구는 인정하나 이들의 성적발달, 성적 고민, 성역할 성취, 성적 표현에는 부정적인 태도를 가지고 있다. 또한 이들의 이성교제와 결혼은 찬성하나 결혼전 성관계, 임신과 출산, 자녀양육 등의 성적 욕구에는 부정적인 태도를 가지고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 직원들은 생활시설 정신지체인들의 성적 문제상황으로 임신과 출산에 대해 당사자의 동의 없이 피임, 불임수술, 임신중절수술, 자녀입양 등의 임의적인 개입을 하는 것에 대해 평균적으로 반대하는 태도를 가지고 있다. 그러나 생활시설 정신지체인에 대한 기관과 사회의 원조체계의 부재 때문에 찬성하지도 못하고 적극적인 반대도 하지 못하는 딜레마도 갖고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 생활시설 정신지체인의 성교육과 프로그램에 대해 긍정적인 태도를 갖고 있으며, 생활시설 정신지체인 성문제 해결에 대해서도 바람직한 태도를 갖고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 3. 인구학적 특성, 근무조건, 성교육 경험과 직원들의 정신지체인 성에 대한 태도와의 관련에 있어서는 성별, 결혼유무, 학력, 직책, 자격증(전문성), 근무년수가 직원들의 정신지체인 성에 대한 태도와 유의미하게 관련이 있었는데 그 중에서도 학력, 직책, 자격증(전문성)과의 관련이 중요하다. 이는 생활시설 정신지체인의 성에 적절히 개입하기 위해서는 먼저 직원들이 관련 교육을 통해 훈련되고 전문성을 갖추어야 됨을 의미한다. 4. 직원들은 그들이 담당하는 정신지체인의 성문제에 적절히 접근하기 위해 정신지체인 성 관련 교육과 연수를 필요로 하고 있다. 현재 정신지체인의 성에 대한 교육에 참여한 경우가 많지 않으나 참여한 직원들은 실제 활용에 많은 도움이 되었다는 응답을 보였다. 5. 그러나 4번과 같은 결과가 나왔음에도 불구하고 직원들의 정신지체인 관련 성교육 경험이 정신지체인 성에 대한 태도에 유의미한 관련이 없는 것으로 나타나 직원 성교육의 내용과 실시방법의 문제 및 생활시설에서의 효과적인 교육 수행의 문제가 제기되었다. 이러한 결과를 통해 생활시설 정신지체인의 성에 적절히 대처하고 개입하기 위해서는 직원들이 먼저 훈련되고 전문성을 갖추어야 됨을 인식하고, 생활시설 정신지체인의 성에 대한 인식의 개선과 정신지체인 성에 관련된 프로그램을 계획하고 실시하는데 있어 중요한 기초자료로 활용될 수 있으리라는 점에서 본 연구 결과의 의의를 찾을 수 있을 것이다.; The human s sexuality is being innate character to be continued from cradle to grave. A human being is supposed to get along together to have a relation with others in a category of a innate sexuality regardless of their mental ability whether they are mentally retarded or not. But in a case mentally retarded persons living in residential facilities, they are insufficient to have a chance to develop the appropriate social ability and to regulate the social value and role or sexual desire owing to the restriction of an environment in institution. In other words, in case mentally retarded persons living in residential facilities, they are easy to suffer an atmosphere of sanction and easy to raise a sexual problems and a distorted sexual awareness in view of circumstance living in a group. Especially they suffer severe sexual problems because of an inadequate settlement of sexual desire generated by the lack or damage of sexual awareness building and a concept of self with growing up to be a man passing by adolescents. It falls into a vicious circle of the occurrence and the negligence of problem due to a absence of a positive response about sexual desire. There are some points to be considered as accessing to the sexual problems such as mentally retarded perpons living in residential facilities. First, the standard of a practical sexual knowledge, a sexual attitude and a sexual experience. Second, the fact of grasping the staff s attitude, one of a main causes to affect the a mentally retarded person s sexuality. This study is attempted to offer a basic data to execute and develop the appropriate device for the solution and the prevention of the sexual problems of a mentally retarded perpons by a investigation how much the staff in residential facilities has the knowledge of the mentally retarded perpon s sexuality, how their attitude is, whether they require a appropriate education and system or not. For the survey, the 141 persons of staff in the 15 numbers of residential facilities for mentally retarded were chosen. At my will, all over the country and information was obtained through a questionnaire. A prepared questionnaire was used by means of an inquiry and it was composed of 4 parts ; the staff s general matter, the staff s general sexual awareness and attitude, the staff s attitude regard to a mentally retarded person s sexuality in residential facilities, the education for the staff and the demand of program regard to a mentally retarded perpon s sexuality. The SPSSWIN was used to analysize the collected data. The frequency, percentage, average, standard deviation were calculated to the matter of staff s attitude. The t-test and ANOVA were used to analysize the working conditions, experience, and attitude of sexual education. The result of this study can be summarized as follow. 1. The staff in residential facilities has a mean standard of a general sexual awareness, but they have an affirmative manner about that comparatively. It caused the staff not to have a consistent and fixed attitude regard to mentally retarded perpon s sexuality. An expert and interested person should hold a desirable manner and a precise knowledge about the sexuality to intervene in mentally retarded sexual problems properly. Therefore the education and discipline to be able to confirm and establish an affirmative manner about the sexuality are required. 2. The staff in a residential facilities acknowledges the sexual desire of mentally retarded perpon but they hold a negative manner on the part of their sexual development, sexual worry, achievement of a sexual role, and sexual expression. The staff hold a negative manner on an average to intervene in the sexual problems ; a contraception, sterilization, artificial abortion etc. regardless of consent of the person concerned. But they fall into a dilemma neither an approval nor disapproval because the institution and the society are absent in an aid system for mentally retarded perpons in residential facilities. Also, they hold an affirmative manner for an sex education and program of mentally retarded perpons and hold a desirable manner for the settlement of a sexual problems of mentally retarded perpons. 3. Sex, marriage experience, academic background, their duty, licence, and the length of their service have something to do with the attitude for the mentally retarded person s sexuality as for the relation among the manner for the mentally retarded perpon s sexuality the character of population, the terms of work, the experience of sex education. An academic background, their duty, and license are more important things than any other factor. It means that the staff should possess the professional ability through education to intervene in a mentally retarded person s sexual problems properly. 4. The staff requires the education and the training for the mentally retarded perpon s sexuality to be access to their sexual problems. The staff who takes part in the education is not so many yet, but they say that it is very helpful for a practical use. 5. It becomes an issue of how to practice an education effectively, and what is the contents of the staff s sex education because researches show that the staff s experience of sex education for a mentally retarded persons has nothing to do with their attitude for a mentally retarded person s sexuality though the result comes as No. 4. This result as above show that the staff should possess the professional ability to intervene in mentally retarded person s sexual problems properly. We can find out the significance of this study from the fact that this report will be made good use of the considerable basic data to plan out the program related the improvement of cognition for a mentally retarded person s sexuality in residential facilities.
