라벨(Maurice Ravel : 1875-1937)의 'Miroirs' 연구

Abstract

본 논문은 필자의 석사과정 이수를 위한 졸업연주회 곡목 중의 하나인 라벨(Maurice Ravel. 1875-1937)의 피아노 모음곡 <Miroirs (거울)>에 대한 연구이다. 프랑스 인상주의 회화와 상징주의 시에서 영향 받은 인상주의 음악은 낭만주의로부터 현대음악으로의 가장 중요한 전환점을 이룬 음악사조이다. 인상주의 음악은 다양한 화성을 통하여 새로운 음색과 음향을형성하였고, 독일음악의 골격을 이루었던 장·단조의 조성체계를 무너뜨렸다. 대표적 작곡가로 드뷔시와 라벨이 있는데, 그 중 본 논문에서연구한 라벨은 드뷔시에 비해 고전적인 면을 갖추어 형식이나 선율이뚜렷하다. 그는 고전적 형식에 인상주의 기법을 사용하여 독자적인 스타일을 확립하였다. 그의 리듬은 뚜렷하고 규칙적이며 반복적으로 사용되는 것이 특징인데 이러한 리듬은 스페인 민속음악과 춤곡적 요소에바탕을 둔 것이다. 라벨의 피아노 모음곡 Miroirs는 제목에서 알 수 있듯이 대상을 있는 그대로 묘사하여 그려내는 것이 아니라, 거울을 통해 반영되듯 단지암시하려는 의도로 쓰여진 곡이다. 이 곡은 1905년에 작곡된 것으로‘나방’,‘슬픈 새들’,‘대양의 조각배’,‘어릿광대의 아침노래’,‘종의 골짜기’라는 제목의 5곡으로 구성되어 있다. 이 곡에서 라벨은 7, 9, 11화음의 불협화음을 해결하지 않고 사용하여 그의 대담하고 독창적인 화성법을 잘나타내며, 선법이나 병행화음도 많이 사용했다. 4번째 곡인‘어릿광대의아침노래’에서 주로 나타나는 스페인적인 리듬이나 반복음, 기타를 연상시키는 3도나 4도의 글리산도 등 피아노 연주상의 새로운 기법들을 등장시켜 피아노의 효과를 극대화하였다. 그러므로 고전주의적인 바탕 위에 인상주의적인 색채를 융합시키며 라벨의 특징을 잘 나타내준 작품인Miroirs는 그의 인상주의적 작품에 있어서 중요한 위치에 있다고 할 수있으므로 연구의 가치가 높다. ; Impressionistic music, which was influenced by French impressionistic paintings and symbolic poetry, was a musical trend formed as the most important transition point from Romanticism to contemporary music. Impressionistic music incorporates new timbres and sounds through variable harmonies, breaking down the major and minor keys which constituted the backbone of German music. Representative composers of this era are Debussy and Ravel. However, the style of Ravel is quite classical compared with that of Debussy, and so his composition is clear in style and melody. Ravel established his own color using impressionistic skill in addition to classical style. His music is characteristic in the use of clear, regular and repeated rhythms which are based on Spanish folk music and elements of dancing music. In 1905, Maurice Ravel made a distinguished contribution to the piano literature with Miroirs, which is intended to intimate objects as seen through mirror. The five movements include `Noctuelles , `Oiseaux tristes , `Une barque sur l Oce´an , `Alborada del gracioso , and `La valle´e des cloches . Ravel employs innovative harmonies and introduces new techniques such as Spanish rhythms, repeated tones, and glissandos used mainly in guitar in "Aubade of the Jester", so that maximizes the piano s effect. Miroirs exhibits an extraordinary harmony between classical structure and impressive color tones. As such, it is a remarkable piano piece among his impressionistic works, and worthy of study.
