금속표면 가공 이미지에 의한 인테리어 패턴

Abstract

오늘날 시각예술의 눈부신 변화는 미술을 비롯한 여러 분야의 예술에 자양분을 제공하는 한편 다양한 시각적 개념을 수정, 보완하여 새로운 과제를 부여하고 있다. 20세기 후반부터 우리는 순수/비순수, 순종/잡종, 동양/서양, 여성/남성, 중심/주변 등등의 전통적인 이분법적 사유체계에서 벗어난 혼성/합성적 사고체계로의 변화를 경험하고 있다. 시시각각으로 변화하며 끊임없이 생산되는 다양한 문화와 정보의 소용돌이 속에서, 언제 어디서나, 다양한 차원과 방법으로 상호연결이 가능한 시대에 살고 있는 현대인은 더 이상 무언가 절대적으로 새로운 것을 창조해 낸다는 것이 불가능하다는 것, 나아가서는 절대적인 새로운 창조를 추구한다는 것 자체가 자기모순적인 시대에 살고 있다는 것도 인식하고 있다. 이러한 상황에서의 문화생산은 결국 하이브리드(혼합)할 수 밖에 없으며, 우리는 이러한 하이브리드 문화에 매우 익숙해져 있기도 하다. 하지만 현재 우리의 관심은 바로 우리가 이러한 하이브리드 문화를 어떻게 수용하고 사용하는가 또 거기서 어떠한 또 다른 '새로운 비젼'을 제안할 수 있을까 하는 것이다. 따라서 현대의 조형 예술은 자율성을 추구하는 예술관의 변화에 따라 여러 장르가 모호하게 혼합되는 복합성을 그 특징으로 하게 된다. 즉, 다른 분야의 모든 예술들은 서로 영향을 주게 되고 함께 동화되어 결국 하나로 통일되어 지는 가능성을 가진다. 이와 같이 다양한 사고로 그 형태를 재구성하는 조형의 도입은 획일화된 스타일로부터 벗어나 새로운 감각을 통하여 느낄 수 있는 다른 조형 예술분야와의 상호 작용 속에서 새로운 차원의 디자인으로 발달되어 지는 것이다. 본 연구에서는 인테리어 패턴에 접목시킬 조형 수단으로 금속 표면 이미지중 돋을 새겨지는 이미지와 스탬핑, 오버레이 스타일의 이미지를 디자인의 모티브로 삼았다. 섬유의 기본 속성은 다른 예술의 재료에 비하여 유연성, 굴곡성 등의 물리적 특징을 가지며 시각적, 촉각적, 심리적인 효과로 인하여 따스한 느낌을 주는 반면에 금속은 비교적 무겁고 딱딱하며 차가운 감촉을 느끼게 한다. 다른 한편으로 상반되는 재료가 한 작품 속에서 만드는 차이는 반대 또는 시각적 긴장이다. 이 시각적인 긴장은 대비를 만들기 위하여 또는 효과적인 변화를 만들기 위하여 적용되어 자극과 흥미를 낳는다. 이러한 대비는 신비감, 긴장감, 서정성 등의 이미지로 투사된다. 결국 섬유와 금속의 조화에 있어서 그 미적 양상은 상반되는 재료가 갖는 독립적인 긴장미와 상보적 조형미로 귀결된다. 또한 금속 표면 이미지의 조형성을 결합함으로 창조행위를 실천하여 다양한 표현과 새로운 모티브로서 제안되어지고 발전 가능성을 제시하고자 다음과 같은 내용으로 연구하였다. 첫째, 금속 표면 이미지에 나타나는 조형적 특성과 금속 평면 가공에서 얻어지는 표현을 여러 문헌자료와 사진자료를 통하여 조사해 보았다. 둘째, 기존의 금속표면에 나타난 텍스타일 디자인이미지를 표현한 작품을 조사 분석하여 새로운 금속 표면 이미지 모티브의 개발 가능성을 모색해 보았다. 셋째, 인테리어 패턴 디자인에 대한 고찰을 문헌을 통해 연구하고 인테리어의 특징을 구체적으로 분석하였다. 넷째, 금속 표면 이미지에 나타난 조형적 특성인 볼륨적 형태의 반복과 역동감, 느껴지는 텍스추어 요소들을 인테리어 패턴에 적용하여 기하학적인 형태의 조형미를 창출할 수 있는 가능성을 보였다. 더불어 시각적으로 자유롭고 규칙적인 효과를 동시에 나타냄으로 인테리어 패턴 디자인 모티브로서의 활용을 시도하였다. 다섯째, 제시된 패턴을 응용하여 인테리어 패턴을 시장성에 맞는 구성과 사이즈로 제작하여 제품으로 제시하였다. 이러한 대조적인 두 재료를 결합시키는 형식은 금속 평면 가공 기법으로 섬유를 다루는 경우 섬유와 금속이 한 작품에서 결합, 극적인 형태를 가지고 표현적 측면을 지속적으로 연구하여 이들의 조형방식을 분석해 표현함으로써 현시대에 재창조 되어질 수 있는 예술적 인테리어 패턴 디자인의 모티브로서의 개발 가능성이 있음에 의의를 두었다.;These days, a remarkable change of visual art provides not only nutrition but also new task to various fields of art by modifying the concept of visuality. From late 20th century, we had experienced the change of thought from dichotomous system like pure/impure, homogenous/hetero- genous, oriental/occidental, male/female, center/border to mixture/com- position system. So people get to acknowledge that it is impossible to create complete novelty, thus it is self-contradition to pursue absolutely new creation in this radical change of age in which various culture and information are produced incessantly. Under this circumstances, the creation of culture inevitably becomes hybrid and we have been accustomed to this hybrid culture. However, our interest should be how to accept or use hybrid culture and how to propose 'new vision' with hybrid culture. Therefore, the feature of modern formative art is the complexity in which various genre of arts mix ambiguously. In other word, all kinds of arts have an effect on each others which leads to the possibility of the unification. A new method of formative art is suggested in the area of textile by contacting with other areas of art. Rebuilding artistic form based on different concept instead of monotonous style becomes a new trend. With the integration of various art field, new method of formative art is presented. In this study, metal surface image grafted into textile design is adapted as a motive. The basic attribute of textile is softer and more flexible in physical nature than that of other materials, and textile also gives warmish impression by visual, tactile and psychologic effect. Whereas, the attribute of metal is heavy, hard and cold to the touch. The difference come from adapting opposite materials in one work of art is contrast and visual tension. The visual tension applied to make contrast or effective difference creates stimulation and interest. And this contrast transmits the image of mystique, tension, and lyricism. After all, the integrated beauty follows the independent tension and combined image of fabric and metal. So the various way of artistic presentation and new motive of combining metal surface image with interior pattern design will be proposed in this paper. First, the formative feature and expression of metal surface image in previous literature and photo data are presented. Second, analysing the metal feature presented in existing design, we clarify the possibility of metal surface image as interior pattern design motive. Third, understanding fabric application to bedclothes in previous literature, we analyse the concrete feature of bedclothes. Forth, applying feature of metal surface image which is repetition of volume-effect and dynamics to textile design, we found the possibility that it can create geometric beauty by expressing visual liberty and organized effect simultaneously. Last, the coordination of textile designs produced by suggested pattern and method will be shown. The combination of two contrary materials, as the images of textile and metal integrate in one work of art, can recreate motive of artistic textile design in this modern age.
