Abstract
(Three Preludes and Fugues Op.37), 6개의 오르간 소나타,(Six Organ Sonata Op.65)가 있다. A′부분은 A부분의 유사 반복이며, A부분의 음형a, b와 B부분의 음형 c의 일부가 포함되어 나타난다. Felix Mendelssohn-Barthody is one of the most important composers in the early Romantic period who contributed to the Romantic organ music in 19th century. After Bach’s death, Mendelssohn revived the organ music that was disappeared by the Enlightment in Europe. Of the Mendelssohn’s works, the organ pieces are influenced by the Bach’s convention, especially , . presents the Baroque convention by adopting Chorale, Fugue, counterpoint which suggest the Bach’s organ works. This piece attracted great attention and achieved fame when Mendelssohn made a 8th visit to The United Kingdom and performed the organ recitals many time. English publisher Coventry&Hollier requested Mendelssohn to compose . Mendelssohn accepted his request and composed this in 1844. He gave a recital at Stadtkirche St., the Abbey of Engelberg, Katharinen St., St.Johannes, Auferstehungskirche, etc. was premiered at Katharinen St. in Franckfurt in 1845. The analysis of Organ Sonata no.3 is as follows : The first movement of No.3 has a sectionalized form of ternary(A-B-A′-coda). It is in four-four time and Con mote maestoso. The section A shows four eighth notes of conjunct motion, the section B shows dotted rhythms and the interval relation of augments fourth. The section A′ is a similar repetition of the section A, and shows the figure a and b in the section A, the figure c in the part of section B. The second movement starts incomplete bar in A major, and it is in thee-four time and Andante Tranquillo. The second movement has also a sectionalized form of ternary(A-B-A′-coda). But it is shorter than the first movement. The second movement, unlike the first movement that is splendid and powerful, gives calm and lyrical feelings. It shows mainly four eighth notes and one fourth note starting in weak beat, six eighth notes of conjunct motion. It is appeared the figure of the section A in its coda. Especially, It finishes as a plagal cadence. Mendelssohn directed the intension of sound rather than the certain tone in this piece through the way of expression that restricts the directions for using Register excessively. was a new starter for the Romantic organ music, and had a great influence on the subsequent organ sonatas.
