TV 드라마 <추노>에 나타난 음악적 특징 연구

Abstract

TV dramas are made for unspecified wide-ranging viewers so that universal materials are used reflecting the times. As such, they have reflected image of the public more sensitively than other media and have been developed through various materials according to the phases of the time and desire of the public. As production skills have been developed especially since 1990’s, TV dramas could express more diverse materials and background and thus, kind and roles of music used for dramas began to change, too. As trendy dramas were doing well, title song in a form of song appeared and it pursed new musical color by using various genres music such as Rock and Hip Hop in addition to a lot of Oriental and Western instruments. Furthermore, escaping the secondary role describing a simple atmosphere and helping psychological description of characters in a drama, the role of drama music has been gradually expanded. In order to recognize importance of drama music, this thesis selected <CHUNO (2010)>, a drama which introduced modern elements into the Chosun period, as an object of study and analyzed musical styles and patterns appeared in the work. <CHUNO> is a drama which tried to reflect image of people living in the present through conflicts of characters playing cat and mouse with slavery in Chosun period as the center. In this regard, the study intended to investigate which musical elements brought unusual material and theme into relief and to consider musical characteristics peculiar to <CHUNO>. First of all, this study reviewed development process of TV drama and drama music, and then it looked into background of the work in order to grasp direction intention of <CHUNO>. And then, through a preliminary interview with Choi Chul-ho musical director in charge of composition and producing of <CHUNO>, this study investigated the world of his works. Next, it summarized the outline for analysis of music and classified it into 4 steps of introduction, development, turn and conclusion. It selected distinguishing music which characterized drama’s progress according to development of story and then, it considered musical features appeared in the drama <CHUNO> with focus on correlation with scenes. Musical features appeared in the drama <CHUNO> through the analysis are as follows; First, it describes time setting of <CHUNO> by characterizing Korean musical features using Western instruments. Second, the chase, main topic of <CHUNO>, is dynamically expressed by the phrasing adjustment through performance of musical instruments and the active utilization of three beats rhythms. Third, using various genres music with combination of hip-hop and classical hymn, utilizing exotic instruments and diverse scales, it provides musical color unique to <CHUNO> only. Fourth, it expresses situations and feelings of characters through songs with lyrics and conveys surface meaning of the drama <CHUNO>. Fifth, in order to effectively describe various atmospheres appearing as per change of scenes, performed songs were organized in individual sections with different feelings. Sixth, it connects different music to the one in the same keys or related keys so that it gives an effect as if one kind of music has been performed. According to requirements of the public preferring to high level drama, dramas are constantly developing through varied materials. At the same time, pursuing new tones, drama music also evolves along with development of drama. In this regard, this study on analysis of music in the drama <CHUNO> has a meaning from the aspect of the first attempt in Korea where study of drama music is non-existent. And, it is expected this study will help to become the cornerstone of future research and production development of Korean TV drama music.;TV 드라마는 불특정 다수의 광범위한 시청자들을 대상으로 하기 때문에 그 시대를 반영하는 보편적인 소재가 사용된다. 여타 매체에 비해 민감하게 대중의 모습을 반영하고 있으며 변화하는 시대상과 대중의 욕구에 따라 다양한 소재를 통하여 발전해왔다. 특히 1990년대 이후 제작 기술이 발달하면서 보다 다채로운 소재와 배경을 담아낼 수 있게 되었고 그에 따라 드라마에 사용되는 음악의 종류와 역할 또한 변화하기 시작했다. 트렌디드라마가 흥행하면서 가요 형식의 주제곡이 등장하였고 동·서양의 여러 악기와 록(Rock), 힙합(Hip Hop) 등의 다양한 장르의 음악을 사용하여 새로운 음악적 색채를 추구하였다. 더 나아가 단순히 분위기를 묘사하는 보조적인 역할에서 벗어나 극중 인물의 심리묘사를 돕는 등 드라마음악의 역할은 점차 확대되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 드라마음악의 중요성을 인식하고자 조선시대의 배경에 현대적인 요소를 가미한 드라마 <추노(2010)>를 연구대상으로 선정하여 이 작품에 나타난 음악 양식과 패턴들을 분석하였다. <추노>는 조선시대 노비라는 신분을 중심으로 쫓고 쫓기는 인물의 갈등을 통해 현재를 살아가는 사람들의 모습을 반영하고자 한 드라마이다. 이에 본 연구에서는 이러한 이색적인 소재와 주제를 부각시키는 음악 요소가 무엇인지 알아보고 <추노>만의 독특한 음악적 특징을 고찰해보고자 하였다. 본 연구는 먼저, TV 드라마와 드라마음악의 발전과정에 관하여 고찰하였으며 드라마 <추노>의 연출의도를 파악할 수 있도록 작품배경에 관하여 살펴보았다. 그리고 <추노>의 작곡과 프로듀싱을 맡은 최철호 음악감독과의 사전 인터뷰를 통해 그의 작품세계에 관하여 살펴보았다. 다음으로, 음악 분석을 위해 줄거리를 요약하고 기승전결의 4단계로 구분하였다. 이야기 전개에 따라 극의 진행을 부각시키는 특징적인 음악을 선정하였으며 장면과의 상관관계를 중심으로 드라마 <추노>에 나타난 음악적 특징을 고찰하였다. 분석을 통하여 나타난 드라마 <추노>에서의 음악적 특징은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 서양 악기를 활용하여 한국음악적인 특징을 부각시켜 <추노>의 시대적 배경을 묘사하고 있다. 둘째, <추노>의 주된 소재인 추격은 악기 연주의 프레이징 조절, 3분박의 리듬 형태 등 적극적인 리듬의 활용으로 역동적으로 표현된다. 셋째, 힙합과 클래식한 성가를 조합시키는 등 음악 장르를 혼합하고 이국적인 악기와 다양한 음계를 활용하여 <추노>만의 독특한 음악적 색채를 자아내고 있다. 넷째, 가사가 있는 노래 곡을 통해 등장인물의 상황과 심정을 표현하는 등 드라마 <추노>의 표층적 의미를 전달하고 있다. 다섯째, <추노>의 연주곡의 형식은 장면 변화에 따라 나타나는 다양한 분위기를 효과적으로 묘사하기 위해 각기 다른 느낌을 갖는 독립적인 섹션으로 구성된다. 여섯째, 각각의 다른 음악들을 같은 조 혹은 관계조로의 음악으로 연결하여 한 음악이 연주되는듯한 효과를 주고 있다. 수준 높은 드라마를 선호하는 대중의 요구에 따라 드라마는 다채로운 소재를 통해 끊임없이 발전하고 있다. 더불어 드라마음악도 새로운 음색을 추구하며 드라마의 발전과 함께 진화하고 있다. 이러한 점에서 드라마 <추노>의 음악 분석에 관한 본 연구는 드라마음악 연구가 전무한 실정에서 국내에서는 처음으로 시도되어지는 연구라는 점에서 의의를 갖는다. 그리고 본 연구가 앞으로의 한국 TV 드라마음악의 연구와 제작 발전에 초석이 되는데 보탬이 되기를 바라는 바이다.
