- Abstract
- The main reason why the Korean dances have not grown up as a fine art which has enough interior beauty is due to the fact that Korean dances have pursued only the formal beauty of dances and they were made without any theories of dance coposition or choreography. So, in this thesis, the processes of making the works of dances are described.
It has been desired to make movements which can be expressed freely out of pressure from other movements, such as classic styles. Modern dance was born for the purposes. In making it, many elements and factors needed to compose or choroogrph it were found by many foreign dancers, that is, the theories of dance composition and choreography were developed. Now, therefore, modern dances are made in the most reasonable ways.
Though Korean dancers have had such ambition, they could not systemize them.
When we want to make a dance, there must be an inner desire in our mind. We call this inner impulse, we must find out the motive for the impulse, and we choose the main subject with the definite structure given by the motive. According to this subject, we must observe.
The above process is called the internal preceding process and described at the first part in this thesis.
After the internal preceding process, we confront the step to express the subject by our bodies.
This process is called external succeeding process and described at the middle part in this thesis.
Here we meet the problem of space-time design. After this Rythmical changes are given, that is, dynamism and metakinesis are considered.
A dance composition is completed in this way. And with the effect of music, light, clothes, sets and props, a choreographer can express his idea and feeling thoroughly.
The effect of music, light, clothes, sets and props are discussed at the last part.
At the ending part of this thesis, the Labanotations are listed and explained as appendices.
