- Abstract
- The importance of Recreation has been greatly emphasized by the improvement of living and abrupt changes of the geographical distribution of population since the industrial revolution. However, the development of Recreation was in stagnancy for a long period of time, in Korea.
This paper discusses the causes for the stagnancy of Recreation in Korea ana studies ana analyzes factors and requirements for the develop-meat of Recreation in Korea. In order to find out and review the current domestic and international status of Korean Recreation, this paper also includes information and data analysis on such aspects as personnel, facility, organization, finance, and work hours in foreign countries.
As shown in the table, the general population ratio of our country and Japan is 1:3, whereas the sports population ratio of the two countries·stands 1:5. In terms of Recreational facilities, Korea and Japan are in the ratio 1:87. Whereas in Korea almost all public Recreational activities depend entirely on the government fund, in Japan they receive more financial support from provincial athletic organizations and other local civil agencies than from the government. On the other hand, Koreans generally work more hours than Japanese workers yet their income is lower than the Japanese workers.
