R.M.Rilke가 본 變革과 適應의 問題

Abstract

Rainer Maria Rilke(1875 ~ 1926)가 生存했던 時代는 急速한 物質文明의 發達로 因해 本來의 人間的인 價値가 消滅, 喪失되어 人間의 價値觀이 극심한 變化를 겪던 時代였다. 이러한 變化의 時代에 씌여진 作品 〈Malte의 手記〉는 Rilke에게 가장 많은 變革과 갈등을 體驗하게 한 作品으로서 그의 作品世界를 크게 兩分시킬 수 있는 分水嶺(Wasserscheide)을 이루고 있다. 作品 〈Malte의 手記〉에서 主人公 Malte는 否定에서 肯定으로 이르는 마지막 한 걸음을 내딛을 수 없음으로 해서 沒落하게 된다. 그러나 이 Malte의 沒落은 다음에 올 그의 回生의 作 - 〈Duineser Elegie〉에서 나타나는 “삶에의 肯定”의 礎石이 되고 있다. 〈Duineser Elegie〉에서 나타나는 轉換點, 즉 “삶에의 肯定”의 要素가 作品 〈Malte의 手記〉에 그 根源을 두고 있음이 明白한 以上 作品 〈Malte의 手記〉에 나타난 變革과 適應의 問題를 考察해 보아야만 하는 것은 不可避한 일이다. Rilke에 의하면 人間은 不斷히 變化하려는 存在이며 人間社會 역시 不斷한 變化와 變革을 겪는 現象의 連結로서 限없는 變化와 適應의 연속이다. Rilke에게 있어서 變革에 대한 人間의 適應이야 말로 가장 重要한 意味를 가지는 것으로서, 그는 이러한 適應은 外形的인 適應이 아닌, 內面的 調和를 통한 完全한 適應이어야만 한다고 主張하였다. 그러므로 Rilke가 추구하는 變革과 適應의 問題는 生의 課題를 解決할 수 있는 人間의 根本的 能力과 直結되고 있다고 말할 수 있다. 作品 〈Malte Laurids Brigge의 手記〉를 中心으로 ① 삶과 죽음, ② 사랑, ③ 孤獨者, ④ 人間의 탕아적 本性, ⑤ 實存으로의 自覺, ⑥ 蕩兒의 歸鄕과 實存의 姿勢의 순서로, 人間의 本質的인 面에서 나타나는 變革의 樣相과 이러한 變革의 完成을 위해 Rilke가 追求하는 바를 糾明하고 以上의 觀點에서 作品 〈Malte Laurids Brigge의 手記〉가 갖는 意義를 分析해 보고자 한다.;On account of the rapid development of material civilization, R. M. Rilke (1875-1926) lived a time of change in which essential human merit became disturbed and lost. We appreciate the work of "Die Aufzeichnungen von Malte Laurids Brigge" as a dividing ridge in his literature because he encountered to meet with much revolutional, agonizing experiences to be overcome through it. Rilke made our hero fall into abyss in "Die Aufzeichnungen von Malte" not perimitting Malte the last one step which could lead him redemption, but the ruin of Malte doesn't mean a simple collapse but suggests a possibility of redemption or affirmation toward life that Rilke achieved in his resuscitative work of "Duineser Elegie". In such a sence, we can say the work of "Die Aufzeichnungen von Malte" made a basement for Malte to establish his affirmation toward life. We had better to consider on problems of modelity of revolution & accomodation to it, which he pursued, as it becomes clear that the turning point, beginning to appear in "Duineser Elegie", comes from that basement of "Die Aufzeichnungen von Ma1te". From the standpoint of Rilke, our desire to be changed is one of the human nature, and human society is also the phenomenon of integration of changes & endless accomodation to it. Then, the human desire to by changed and accomodation himself to it his the most important thing from the view-point of Rilke, and he stressed upon a complete accomodation through inner harmonization with his surroundings. I've tried to examine closely what Rilke pursued in search of "modelity of revolution in human nature, & the accomplishment of accomodation to it" in the following order, named (I) to live and to die. (2) Love. (5) isolater. (4) the nature of prodigal sen, (5) awakening toward self-existence. (6) the return of prodigal son and his attitude toward self existence. Rilke's work of '"Die Aufzeichnungen von Malte Laurids Brigge" means from these point of view.
