Abstract
부모의 훈육방식은 Clazada와 Eyberg(2002)의 PSD(Parenting Style and Dimension)를 번안한 이동희(2003)의 척도를 사용하였고, 유아의 두려움은 Rothbart(1993)의 CBQ(Child Behavior Questionnaire) 중 두려움 요인을 번안하여 측정하였다. The objective of this study was to examine relationships between parental discipline style, young child's fearfulness and child's conscience. Also, the purpose of this study was to investigate whether or not child's fearfulness plays moderating roles between both parental discipline Style and young Child's Conscience. Data of this study were collected with a sample of 250 parents of children in the age group of 3 to 6, attending 5 different kindergartens and nurseries located in three districts of Gangnam and Gangsseo in the city of Seoul. The disciplinary methods of the parent were measured by using the scale of Dong-hee Lee(2003) that was adapted from the PSD(Parenting Style and Dimension) of Clazada and Eyberg(2002) and the child's fearfulness was measured using the fearfulness factors among the CBQ(Child Behavior Questionnaire) of Rothbart(1993). The conscience of the child was measured by the scale that Yoon-jung Cho(1999) had revised and supplemented to suit the domestic circumstances, which was originally taken from the Conscience Measure produced by Kochanska, Devet, Goldman, Murray and Putnam(1994). Data were analyzed by pearson's correlation coefficients and hierarchical regression analysis. The major results of this study were summarized as follows: First, the young child displayed greater actions of reparation and apology as the mother had logically explained while carrying the withdrawal discipline style. When examining by the distinction of sexes, the withdrawal discipline style of the mother to boys and the logical explanation of the mother to girls had the greatest influence on the actions of reparation and apology. Secondly, the internalized conduct of the young child appeared less as the father and mother used the style of forceful punishment. The forceful punishment style of the father displayed significant consequences on the internalized conduct of the boys. Thirdly, the disciplinary methods of father and mother did not hold significant influences on the guilt of the child, but when closely examined, the degree of guilt appeared to be high when the mother used the method of logical explanation for instance of the girl. Fourth, the actions of reparation, apology and guilt of the young child were highly reported as the level of the fearfulness in the young child was high. The fearfulness of the young child did not display significant consequences on the internalized conducts. The action of reparation, apology and guilt were high as a great level of fearfulness existed for both girls and boys, the internalized conducts were lessened as a great level of fearfulness existed. Finally, the fearfulness of the young child had moderated the influences that the logical explanations of the father have on the internalized conducts. In short, for the instance of a child with great amount of fearfulness, the child displayed more internalized conducts when the father used logical explanations. On the other hand, for the instance of a child with less degree of fearfulness, the difference amongst the internalized conduct of the child in accordance to the high and low of the father's logical explanations were not found. Moreover, the fearfulness of the young child also moderated the influence that the mother's forceful punishment had on the actions of reparation and apology. In other words, for the instance of a child with great amount of fearfulness, as the mother used less forceful punishment, the child displayed greater actions of reparation and apology. Meanwhile, for the child with less fearfulness, no differences existed amongst the actions of reparation and apology in accordance to the high and low degree of the mother's forceful punishment. The present research confirmed the factors that increase or decrease the child's development of conscience by closely examining the disciplinary methods of the parent and the influencing power of the child's fearfulness on the conscience. Also, by discovering the moderating role that is occupied by the child's fearfulness within the relationship between the parent's disciplinary method and the conscience, it has emphasized the mutual influences between the parent's role as the family environment and the individual personal traits of the child that is initially encountered during the conscience development stage of the child. Hence, this research holds the academic and pragmatic significance in that it has broaden the range of understanding for the development of the conscience that becomes the groundwork of the child's moral developments.
