여성성장소설의 공간성과 성장서사교육

Abstract

This thesis is intended to show the nature and the significance of the female growth novel and explain the way of teaching for growth narrative by dealing with <A Pile of Mother> by Park Wan Seo. Until now, the study of bildungsroman has been developed focusing on the novels of man writers whose protagonists are mainly mans. But, considering that establishment of self identity, which is the core of bildungsroman, includes establishment of gender identity, we can think of variations when the subject of growth is women. In the second chapter, the concept and the necessity for the growth of novels for women is put into context. Growth in a character usually implies the process of mental maturity as an immature character deals with and overcomes a number of external and internal conflicts so as to enter the world as a mature, intelligent and wise individual. In the end culminating in a recognition of self and self-awareness. In order for the main character to grow. he or she must, by necessity, go through the process of separation, followed by a period of transition and finally ending in an integration in order to realize self-awareness and development of self. Due to the fact that the roles and opportunities for women are different from those for man, it is understandable that women's opportunity for growth varies considerably from that of man. This study focuses on this stark difference. In the third chapter, the narrative structures of Park Wan Seo's novel is analyzed form the viewpoints of growth novel. <A Pile of Mother> is considered a masterpiece in the genre and development of the woman's novel. and it mirrors the processes of growing from young girl to an adult and finding identity as female. In the fourth Chapter, this study suggests a new teaching method of female growth novel focusing on spatiality. The character in <A Pile of Mother> move from country to city and she is brought up, experiencing confusion between country life and the modern cities in Japanese Colonial Times. And all of this processes appear as the side of dichotomy spatiality. In conclusion, By the learning female growth novel, learners would experience the processes of establishing identity and interactions with society and other people. I wish the teaching female growth novel becomes diversified and activated, and positive effects would be developed with further research.;성장소설은 자아의 형성과정을 중점적으로 다룬다는 점에서 문학교육과의 밀접한 관련성을 갖는다. 그러나 지금까지의 성장소설교육은 주된 연구의 대상이 ‘남성의 성장서사’에 한정되어왔다는 점에서 일정한 한계를 보이고 있다. 이에 여성성장소설의 교육적인 가치를 밝히고 교육의 방법을 제시함으로써 문학교육에서 여성성장소설의 구체적인 활용을 모색해보고자 한다. 여성성장소설은 기본적으로 성장의 주체인 여성과 그들이 성장과정에서 겪는 이야기를 내용으로 하는 소설이다. 여성성장소설을 학습함으로써 여성학습자들은 여성으로서 자신의 삶을 되돌아보고 자아의 형성과정에서 중요한 요소로 작용하는 성적 정체성을 정비 할 수 있다. 또한 여성성장소설의 학습을 통해 성장의 두 가지 측면을 모두 경험한 학습자들은 조화로운 성 정체성의 형성 및 세계를 바라보는 균형 잡힌 시야를 확립할 수 있다는 점에서 여성성장소설교육의 교육적 가치를 설명할 수 있다. 그러나 실제 문학교육의 현장에서 여성성장소설교육은 작품의 편수 부족 및 적절한 교수&#8228;학습 활동의 부족 등 양적, 질적인 측면 모두에서 미비한 모습을 보이고 있다. 문학교육 내의 이와 같은 여성성장소설의 소외의 원인으로는 여성성장소설이 지니는 반성장 서사로서의 특징을 지적할 수 있다. 인간의 변화를 통제하는 것이 사회라는 점에서 해당 사회가 어떤 방향의 변화에 발전이라는 가치를 부여하는가에 따라 성장의 방향성이 달라지는데, 흔히 남성성장소설의 주인공들이 사회와의 조화나 이성, 전체성을 획득해나가는 ‘발전의 서사’를 경험한다면 여성성장소설의 주인공들은 내면 심리로의 복귀나 혼돈, 반항에 만족해야하는 ‘생존의 서사’를 경험한다. 즉 통합이 아닌 이탈, 완성이 아닌 미완을 이야기하는 여성성장소설은 학교교육이 추구하는 성장의 이상과 모순되는 것으로 규정되어온 것이다. 이에 본고에서는 성장을 바라보는 새로운 관점을 제시함으로서 여성성장소설을 문학교육의 영역으로 이끌기 위한 단서를 마련하였다. 즉 성장은 사회적 존재로서 자아의 완성 유무로 판단할 수 있는 것이 아니라 다양한 생존의 방식 그 자체라고 할 수 있으며 이처럼 ‘결과’가 아닌 ‘과정’으로서의 성장을 이야기함으로써 여성의 성장의 의미를 새롭게 해석하고자 하였다. 이와 관련하여 대표적인 여성성장소설인 박완서의 『엄마의 말뚝 1』을 분석하여 그 속에 형상화된 여성의 성장의 의미를 살피는 한편 모든 논의를 종합하여 실제 여성성장소설의 교수&#8228;학습 모형을 제시하였다. 본 연구를 바탕으로 여성 성장에 대한 폭 넓은 논의의 가능성을 이끌어내는 한편 여성성장소설교육의 발전적 출발점을 마련할 수 있기를 기대하는 바이다.
