무무(巫舞)의 사회학적 기능과 가치에 관한 연구

Abstract

The purpose of this study has to determine at examining social role of the function that shaman dance holds through study of shaman dance's sociological function and suggesting its value based on this. With the most organized transmitted system among primitive religions, shaman dance constitutes our nation's religious basis and can be viewed as the original form of national culture. Exorcism is its core and, depending on character of shaman, exorcism can be divided into 'evocation dance' and 'hereditary dance'. Hereditary dance among them is acknowledged with its value until today because of its excellent artistry and now it is designated as intangible cultural assets and some shamans are designated as its faculty holders. In exorcising the central part of its ritual is dance, 'shaman dance. Shaman dance took the role of revitalizing contents of shaman songs and making knots of main streets and making connecting back and front smooth, by this shaman got capability to enter into god's world. Displaying its several social functions, shaman not only showed its influence on constituents of primitive society but also bore methodical features trying to solve several problems including 'getting avoid of', 'loss of sense of value' of modern society to be noticed with its necessity, and as a result various angles of studies including science of religion, Korean literature, folklore, sociology and psychology are being operated. Therefore, the purpose of this study lies in suggesting shaman dance's sociological value by examining what influence shaman dance has on socially with basis of shaman dance's several functions. To achieve this purpose, this study applied several image data and documentary studies. As a result this research studied concept and historical background for basic understanding of shaman dance, and generally grasped concept of artistic sociology and forming background to apply sociological theory to shaman dance's function. And by analyzing shaman dance's sociological function in aspects of individual, entertainment, artistic and community, what shaman took role of restoring harmony, social satire through game and granting liberated feeling, inspiring creativity through integrated arts, solidifying community's unity and social communication transmitting national culture have been grasped. Shaman dance, as a core of shaman ritual, influenced on our traditional and cultural dances with basis of aesthetic sense of value of original arts and is being applied as a material of modern Korea's creative dance as well. By suggesting figure of ideal community through restoring and unity of harmony, shaman dance can find its value in trying to wisely overcoming problems of so-called modern society's 'getting avoid of', 'loss of sense of value'.;본 연구는 무무(巫舞)의 사회학적 기능 연구를 통해 무무(巫舞)가 지니는 기능의 사회적 역할을 규명하고, 나아가 이를 바탕으로 그 가치를 제시하고자 하는 목적에서 시작되었다. 무속(巫俗)은 원시종교 가운데 가장 조직화된 체계를 갖추고 전승되어 우리 민족의 종교적 바탕을 이루고 있으며, 민족 문화의 원형이라 볼 수 있다. 그 핵심은 굿으로, 굿은 무당의 성격에 따라 ‘강신무(降神巫)’와 ‘세습무(世襲巫)’로 나눌 수 있다. 그 중 세습무(世襲巫)는 예술성이 뛰어나 오늘날까지 그 가치를 인정받고 있으며 현재는 굿이 무형문화재로 지정되어 몇몇 무당이 기능보유자로 규정되어 있다. 굿을 함에 있어 그 제의(祭儀)의 중심이 되는 것이 바로 춤, ‘무무(巫舞)’이다. 무무(巫舞)는 무가(巫歌)의 내용을 활성화시키고 주요 거리의 매듭을 지어주며 앞, 뒤 연결을 원만히 해주는 역할을 담당하였는데, 이로써 무당은 신의 세계로 진입할 수 있는 능력을 갖게 된다. 무무(巫舞)는 여러 가지 사회적 기능을 발휘함으로써 원시사회 구성원들에게 그 영향력을 발휘하였을 뿐 아니라 현대사회의 ‘소외’, ‘가치관 상실’ 등 여러 가지 문제의 해결을 시도하는 방법적 특성을 지님으로써 그 필요성이 주목되어 종교학, 국문학, 민속학, 사회학, 심리학 등 다양한 각도에서 연구가 이루어지고 있다. 그러므로 본 연구의 목적은 무무의 기능을 바탕으로 그것이 사회적으로 어떠한 영향을 미치는가를 규명함으로써 무무의 사회학적 가치를 제시하는데 있다. 이러한 목적을 달성하기 위하여 본 연구는 여러 가지 영상자료와 문헌적 연구를 적용하였다. 그 결과 무무(巫舞)에 대한 기본적인 이해를 위해 개념 및 역사적 배경을 검토하고, 무무(巫舞)의 기능에 사회학적 이론을 적용하기 위하여 예술사회학의 개념 및 형성배경을 개괄적으로 파악하였다. 또한 무무(巫舞)의 사회학적 기능을 종교적, 오락적, 예술적, 공동체적 측면으로 분류하여 분석한 결과 천(天)ㆍ지(地)ㆍ인(人) 소통을 통한 조화 회복, 놀이를 통한 사회 풍자 및 해방감 부여, 총체예술을 통한 창조성 고취, 공동체 결속력 강화, 사회 소통 및 민족문화 전승의 역할을 한 것을 파악하였다. 무무(巫舞)는 무속 제의의 핵심으로써 근원적 예술의 미적 가치관을 바탕으로 우리의 전통무용과 민속무용에 여러 방향으로 영향을 끼쳤을 뿐 아니라 현대 한국창작춤의 소재로서도 활용되고 있다. 무무(巫舞)는 조화의 회복과 일치를 통해 이상적인 공동체의 모습을 제시함으로써 현대사회의 ‘소외’, ‘가치관 상실’ 등의 문제를 지혜롭게 극복하고자 하는데서 그 가치를 찾을 수 있다.
