유아기 아동 미술표현 재료 및 도구의 적절성에 대한 실태 조사

Abstract

Since the areas of expressions are not limited in the modern art education, various materials or tools are used to express thoughts and feelings freely, and therefore, art expressions become newer and more diverse. On the other hand, since diverse materials and tools are designed to be suitable for adults, adults can use such materials and tools to express whatever they like, but it is often difficult or even dangerous for pre-school children to use them. Thus, we may raise several questions; How are such materials and tools probably unsuitable for pre-school children being selected and used on the field of art education? Are such materials and tools dangerous for the children? Can the children not be engaged in art activities without using such unmanageable materials or tools? Are there not other alternative or stable materials or tools? The purpose of this study is to survey whether the art materials and tools suitable for pre-school children depending on the stages of their development are used in their art activities. For this purpose, those teachers working for kindergartens, children's houses and private art tutoring institutes were sampled to be subject to a questionnaire survey. The results of this study can be summarized as follows; First, it is deemed necessary to allow the pre-school children to express freely what they think or feel by using the easy-to-handle (thick enough to be easily grasped by hands) and safe (unharmful even if they were sucked up) materials and tools designed in consideration of their development stages. Second, it is essential to provide the pre-school children with the materials and tools familar to them. Third, art teachers should be given opportunities to be informed of or educated on art materials and tools in a professional manner. For a desirable art education for pre-school children, art teachers are obliged to study and test a variety of materials and tools being developed anew and thereby, be armed with some professional knowledge about them to guide the pre-school children adequately in art education. ;현대 미술 교육은 표현 영역에 있어서 제한을 받지 않기 때문에 여러 가지 재료나 도구를 사용하여 자신의 생각이나 느낌을 자유롭게 표현하며 그 표현들은 날로 새로워지고 다양해지고 있다. 우리가 일상생활에서 볼 수 있는 간단한 재료나 도구로부터, 때로는 전문가나 교사들조차 알 수 없는 여러 가지 재료나 도구를 가지고 표현하는 것을 볼 수 있다. 다양한 재료와 도구의 활용은 재료·도구의 탐색과 다양한 경험을 통해 창의적인 표현을 이끌어 주는데 큰 역할을 한다. 대부분 다양한 재료나 도구는 성인에 맞게 만들어져 있기 때문에 성인들은 그 재료와 도구의 활용으로 자신이 표현하고 싶은 데로 나타낼 수 있지만, 유아들 그러한 재료 ·도구들이 사용하기 힘들거나 위험성이 있는 경우를 보게 된다. 이와 같은 유아들에게 부적절할 수 있는 재료 · 도구의 사용을 미술 교육 현장에서 어떻게 선택 활용되어야 하는가? 또, 유아들에게 재료 · 도구가 위험성이 있지나 않은가? 다루기 힘든 재료나 도구를 사용하지 않고 바람직하게 미술 활동을 할 수는 없는가? 안정성 있는 재료나 도구로 대처할 다른 재료나 도구는 없는 것인가? 라는 문제를 생각하게 된다. 미술 활동이 체계화되고 교육적 발전을 모색하는 외국의 경우 연령이 낮은 어린 유아 이전의 아동( 0-3세의 아동)이 미술활동을 할 때는 일반적인 재료나 도구를 사용하지 않고 유아들의 신체적 능력에 맞고 사용하기에 안전한 재료나 도구를 사용한다. 또한 스스로 활동을 할 수 없는 영아나 특수 아동을 가르치는 교사들을 보면, 그 아동이 사용하기 편하고 쉽게 표현할 수 있는 미술 재료나 도구들을 배려하여 미술 활동을 하고 있음을 보게 된다. 본 연구에서는 유아들이 미술활동을 할 때, 사용하는 재료와 도구가 연령 발달 단계에 적절한 재료와 도구로 사용되고 있는가의 연구를 유치원, 어린이 집, 그리고 미술 학원의 교사들에게 설문 조사를 통하여 유아들에게 미술 활동의 실태를 조사 하였다. 조사 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 유아들이 쉽게 사용할 수 있는 것으로 유아 발달 단계를 고려하여 다루기 쉽고(유아들이 손으로 잡았을 때, 잡기 편한 굵기의 재료나 도구), 안전한 재료나 도구(입으로 빨아도 무해한 것)들로 유아들이 자유롭게 표현할 수 있게 해 주어야 한다고 본다. 둘째, 생활 주변에서 익숙한 재료나 도구를 사용하는 것도 고려되어야 할 것이다. 셋째, 미술활용을 하는 교사에게 재료와 도구에 대한 전문적인 지식과 함께 새로운 정보의 교육 기회가 제공되어야 한다. 유아들을 위한 바람직한 유아미술 교육이 이루어지기 위해서는 교사는 새롭게 계발되고 있는 다양한 재료와 도구에 대하여 교사들은 끊임없이 정보와 전문적인 지식을 위한 연구와 실험을 통하여 보다 효과적인 지도를 해야 한다.
