Abstract

국 영문초록 수록;Man began to take, when entering into the life of agriculture from that of hunting and fishing, his fiber from animals and plants, and produce textiles to make his clothing. The expression of decoration and of social status as a purpose of clothing rather than protection and concealment of shame came to bring about keen interest in garments, and this tendency has made an increasing demand in hand-woven textile, and 1ed the patterns and colors of the textile to variety. Textiles depended on handicraft in manufacture in the early times, and has been in mass production in factories owing to the development of textile industry since the Industrial Revolution. But hand-weaving is now enjoying its increasing popularity because of its unique personality and genuine artistic beauty and practicality, and its range of use is being expanded not merely to garments but to tapestries and interior decoration, In addition, professional textilegarment designers sometimes used to to the test on the patterns of textile. This study intends to express through the loom-shaped garment whose styles are planned on the loom, the beauty peculiar to Korea by creating the artistry of hand-weaving in Korean style of patterns. In the process of study, a review was made of the historical background of loom-shaped garment, and an inquire was conducted into its archetype, designs, sawing goods, and mention was made of the characteristics of its applied textile patterns. In making works, varied materials, and technique of weaving were applied to 8 pieces of ponchos, a jacket, and evening dresses, and an attempt was made for a decorative effect by the utilization of Korean style of patterns. Problems were raised from the process of study, as follows: 1. An utmost restriction was unavoidable because the works were the textiles by hand loom. That is to say, keen attention was paid to the weight of the yarn used, the style of the works, their sizes, textures, and location of patterns. 2. A lot of time was required because there were several Stages in the process of work, including pattern design, draping, spinning, yarn dyeing, textile design, and sawing 3. It was hard to procure diversified kinds of materials, i.e., texture yarn, fleece, etc. and such unexplored fields as spinning, Ikat, etc. fell short of tools, giving rise to disadvantages. It seems that the problems aforementioned would be improved by more advanced studies of loom-shaped garment and by the recommendation of use of hand-woven goods as a craft arts, And it is recommendable that designers should make more attempts for creating through loom-shaped garment the textiles and garments of aesthetic and practical values.;인류는 수렵어로 생활에서 농경생활로 들어서면서 의복을 만들기 위하여 동, 식물로부터 섬유를 채취하고 직물을 생산하기 시작하였다. 문화가 발달하면서 의복의 목적이 수치, 보호보다는 장식, 사회적 지위를 나타내는 수단이 됨에 따라 의복에 대한 관심이 높아지게 되었고, 이는 수직물의 수요를 증가시켰으며, 직물의 문양, 색을 다양하게 해 주었다. 이러한 직물은 수공업으로 생산되어 오다가 18세기 산업혁명 이후 직물산업의 발전으로 현재에 이르기까지 공장에서 대량생산 되고 있다. 그러나, 수직은 그것이 지닌 독특한 개성미와 순수한 예술성, 실용성으로 인해 그 인기는 급증하고 있으며, 사용범위가 의복, 라피스트리, 실내장식품 등으로 점차 확대되어 가고 있다. 또한 전문적인 직물디자이너, 의복디자이너들은 수직을 통하여 새로운 아이디어를 얻기도 하며, 직물의 패턴을 직접 시험해 보기도 한다. 본 연구의 목적은 수직기 위에서 형태가 형성되어지는 수직의(Loom-shaped Garment)를 통하여 수직공예가 지니고 있는 예술성을 의복이라는 대상 위에 창조하고, 한국 문양을 응용하여 디자인 함으로써 우리의 미를 표현하려는데 있다. 연구 과정으로는 이론적 기반으로서 '수직의'에 대한 사적 배경을 고찰하고, 기본 원형 및 디자인, 직조, 봉제를 연구하였으며 작품에 응용된 직물, 문양의 특성에 대해 설명하였다. 작품 제작에 있어서는 폰쵸(Poncho), 자켓(Jacket), 이브닝 드레스(Evening dress) 8점을 통하여 다양한 재료, 직조기법을 사용하고 한국 문양을 응용하여 디자인함으로써 그 장식적인 효과를 살려 보았다. 이상의 연구를 통해 느낀바 문제점으로는 1. 수직에 의한 의복용 직물이기 때문에 많은 제한을 받았다. 즉, 실의 무게, 작품의 형태 및 크기, 질감, 문양의 위치등 고려할 사항이 많다. 2. 작품 제작 과정이 여러단계 (패턴(Pattern)디자인 드레이핑(Draping), 스피닝(Spinning), 염사, 직물디자인, 봉제)인 고로 많은 시간이 소요되었다. 3. 다양한 재료(텍스츄어사(Texture yarn), 양털 등)의 구입이 어렵고, 스피닝, 이카(Ikat)등 미개척 분야에서는 도구가 부족하여 불편을 겪었다. 이상과 같은 문제점들은 '수직의'에 관한 연구가 좀 더 진전되어지고, 수직이 공예예술로 적극적으로 장려됨으로써 개선 되어지리라 믿는다. 또한 선구적인 역할로서 디자이너들이 '수직의'를 통하여 미적·실용적 가치를 지닌 직물 및 의복을 창작 시도해 보는 것은 매우 중요한 일이라 하겠다.
