목판채색화의 워시기법을 응용한 패션일러스트레이션 연구

Abstract

현대 예술의 흐름은 순수 미술과 실용 미술의 한계를 모호하게 하며, 그러한 장르의 구분 또한 무의미함을 보여준다. 패션일러스트레이션은 실용적 기능성을 내포한 고도의 예술적 표현을 통해 순수미술의 표현 영역으로 확대되고 있다. 또한 패션일러스트레이션은 표현기법과 재료의 다양함, 그리고 다각적 기능으로 영역의 확대가 이루어지면서 패션의 중요한 표현기능을 지니는 고도의 전문성을 띠며 발전하고 있다. 패션일러스트레이션의 다양한 표현재료 가운데 나무는 다른 재료에 비해 부드러움과 자연미를 가지고 있으며, 따라서 작가들이 자연의 본질에 쉽게 접근할 수 있는 재료로 선택되어졌다. 이는 나무가 현대의 작가와 감상자들이 기계문명에 지친 감정을 승화 시킬 수 있게 해주고, 더불어 그 작품을 감상하는 많은 현대인에게 정신적, 심적인 안정과 자연적인 인성을 되찾게 해주기 때문이다. 이에 본 연구는 나무를 이용한 개성적인 표현을 위해서 조각한 목판에 채색하는 기법인 목판채색화(木板彩色畵)에 컬러를 덧칠하고 브러쉬등 도구를 이용해 벗겨내는 워시기법을 도입해 새로운 방법을 개발하여 목판채색화의 표현영역을 넓히고자 하며, 이를 통해 현대 패션일러스트레이션의 다양한 표현의 잠재성을 제시하고, 패션일러스트레이션의 예술성과 창의성을 높이는데 목적을 둔다. 본 연구는 여러자료를 통한 이론적 배경을 고찰하고 그것을 토대로 한 작품 제작으로 구성하였다. 이론적 배경으로는 패션일러스트레이션과 목판채색화 및 워시기법의 세부분으로 나누어 접근하였고, 패션일러스트레이션 부분에서는 예술 및 일러스트레이션 문헌과 웹싸이트를 통해 패션일러스트레이션의 개념과 변천, 기능과 활용을 고찰하고, 패션 일러스트레이션 작품집, 패션잡지, 패션관련 단행본에서 그림을 발췌하여 재료 및 표현기법에 따라 분류, 정리하였다. 또한 표현 기법 측면의 목판채색화와 워시기법 부분에서는 문헌과 사진자료를 통해 각각의 개념 및 제작과정을 고찰하고 재료와 방법에 따라 기법별로 분류하였다. 그리고 각각의 표현기법을 여러작품집에서 발췌하여 작품사례를 그림과 함께 분석하였다. 작품제작은 목판채색화에서의 목판에 삼각도(三角刀)와 환도(還刀)를 사용해 세로로 혹은 문양을 따라 불규칙적이고 거칠게 조각하여 재질감을 표현하였다. 채색작업에서는 컬러를 덧칠하여 벗겨내는 워시기법을 부분적으로 도입하여 밑컬러가 우러져 나오도록 하였다. 색채는 저채도의 컬러들을 주로 사용하면서 불필요한 장식을 배제하고 심플하고 상징적인 기하학을 모티브로 의상디자인 하므로써 워시기법의 도입으로 인한 바랜듯한 엔틱이미지를 현대적인 감각으로 표현하려 하였다. 이를 토대로 두상, 반신상 , 전신상 그리고 소품으로 구성된 조각그림까지 총 10점의 패션일러스트레이션을 제작하였다. 이러한 연구를 통해 얻은 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 본연구에서의 목판은 거친 새김작업을 통하여 재질감 표현이 가능하여 워시기법의 바랜듯한 느낌을 극대화 시킬 수 있었다. 둘째, 조각한 목판에 그림을 그리므로써 나무 고유의 재질감과 함께 입체적이고 평면적인 이중효과를 가질 수 있는 부조적인 패션일러스트레이션의 표현가능성을 알 수 있었다. 셋째, 워시기법의 색을 벗겨내는 과정에서 우러나오는 밑컬러로 인해 단순하고 계획적인 결과가 아닌 의외적이고 신선한 효과를 얻을 수 있어 작품의 독특한 분위기 및 풍부한 색감을 표현하는 새로운 가능성을 확인할 수 있었다. 이와 같이 패션일러스트레이션의 표현기법 및 소재를 개발함에 있어 실험정신과 자신만의 독특한 개성으로 표현영역의 확대를 시도하여 패션일러스트레이션의 예술적 가치를 높여갈 수 있도록 해 나가야할 것이다.

;A prevailing trend of modern arts make vague the border between pure arts and applied ones, also making it meaningless to classify genres. Fashion illustrations have recently been extended toward the area of pure arts through sophisticated and artistic expressions containing practical functionalities. On the back of various techniques of expressions and diverse materials, they have been developed as professional art division. In order to fulfill creative and unique expressions, this study applies the wash technique which has generally been used as giving antique touches to furniture arts to fashion illustrations. It also has the purpose of suggesting potentials of various expressions made by fashion illustrations and uplifting their artistry and creativity. Theoretically, this study approaches fashion illustrations and the wash technique. In the section on fashion illustrations, the study introduces the definition, functions and applications of fashion illustration, reviews historical changes, and analyzes world-famous fashion illustrators through documentary surveys. To create unique visual effects by adding solid expressions to surfaces of fashion illustrations, we gave textures with plywood and applied the wash technique in which special paints or inks are added to generate a unique feeling of quality. Therefore, the entire work is dominated by unique antique touches and ardeco geometrical patterns. The results of this study are as follow. First, we mainly used MDF made of sawdust without pattern, seen as inflexible and available for engraving, as basic material for the wash technique. We could discover unknown features of MDF which had been used as materials of furniture. Second, we developed the wash technique into a new technique for fashion illustrations. Unlike general painting methods, the latest technique is characterized by the fact that expressions can be removed after painting and mixed with underlying materials and colors. Third, we found that acryl dyes having merits of both water and oil paintings can make various expressions and also create fashion illustrations with antique and picturesque atmospheres through proper mix of various materials including wood and the wash technique. Likewise, the wash technique extends the arena of fashion illustrations by applying methods used in the furniture arts and gives antique beauty to fashion illustrations. Despite the inconvenience that an artist must remove details expressed with water or other materials after painting, the wash technique can generate unexpected and fresh effects rather than simple and intentional results. And it has an unlimited potential as it can be mingled with various materials. We must make efforts to raise artistic values of fashion illustrations with a spirit of experiment and unique personalities in developing means of expression and materials.
