옻칠을 이용한 정물화 연구

Abstract

An average Korean person will naturally associate 'Lacquer' with 'Lacquer Ware of Nacre'. However, Lacquer Ware of Nacre is one of the various genres of Lacquer Drawing. With the abundance of nacre from the ancient Korea Dynasty Age, a lot of lacquer wares of nacre had been created, and perceived as a representative for lacquer drawing. Actually there are diverse techniques for lacquer drawing including lacquer wares of nacre, and, I think, those are very likely to be adapted for painting arts and formative arts. In my paintings, I tried to select natural materials from the daily lives and empathize myself to them, using various lacquer drawing techniques. My way of drawing is more similar to Oriental Gimyoungjulgido(a traditional kind of Oriental Stillife) than Western Stilllife. And in order to improve naturalness and eternity of my painting, I blended lacquer with natural coloured powder. In this study, I'd like to show that my paintings are based on Gimyoungjulgido, not on Western Stilllife through the general examination about both. And I researched a lot about lacquer to introduce this unfamiliar material to the general public. And I reviewed historical development and current situation of lacquer drawing. Techniques that I applied in my paintings are traditional lacquer ware technique and fine lacquer overlapping technique to reveal natural feeling of texture. Instead of the Western perspective, I chose flat leveled shape, which is a feature of Folk Paintings, and tried to represent traditional and stable composition. Then I attemped to let three dimensional materials look like two dimensional things, and to adapt moving viewpoint of landscape paintings to stilllife. And also I'd like to make still and peaceful atmosphere with the balanced combination of lines and planes. Finally, I hope understanding analysis of my paintings, which are the results of a lot of trials and efforts, to advance my paintings and to develop myself. ;우리 나라의 대부분의 사람들은 '옻칠'이라고 하면 당연스레 나전칠기를 연상한다. 하지만 나전칠기는 단지 기법으로 분류된 칠기의 한 종류에 불과하다. 고려시대부터 우리 나라에서는 나전이 매우 발달하여 나전칠기들이 다량으로 생산되어 왔기 때문에, 많은 사람들이 나전이 마치 옻칠을 대표하는 것처럼 고정관념을 갖게 되었을 뿐이다. 옻칠은 나전뿐 아니라 여러 가지의 다양한 기법을 가지고 있으며, 이러한 기법들은 회화적으로나 조형적으로 응용되기에 충분하다. 본인의 작업은 옻칠의 기법을 응용하여 일상생활 주변의 자연스러운 소재를 화폭에 담는 것이다. 평소 곁에 두고 지켜보던 일상의 소재를 선택하여 감정이입 시켜 그리는 것은 서양의 정물화보다는 동양의 기명절지도에 배어있는 정신적 태도와 일치한다. 본인은 소재가 갖는 자연스러운 질감과 형태의 재현을 위해 천연재료인 옻에 천연안료를 배합하여 가공되지 않은 자연미와 영구성을 높이고자 하였다. 본 논문에서는 동양정물화의 전통이라고 할 수 있는 기명절지도와 서양정물화에 대한 일반적 고찰을 통해 본인의 작품이 서양의 정물화보다는 기명절지도에 근본하여 있다는 것을 밝히고, 옻칠에 대한 개괄적인 고찰을 통해 일반인들에게 아직은 생소한 재료에 대해 소개하고자 하였다. 또한 현대에 옻칠화가 어떻게 발전되고 있는지에 대해서도 살펴보았다. 작품의 표현방법에 있어서도 천연재료인 옻칠을 사용해 전통적 칠예기법을 응용하였고, 투명칠을 중첩시키면서 소재의 자연적인 질감을 재현해내려고 노력하였다. 서양식의 원근법과 투시법을 제하고 민화의 특성인 평면적인 형태를 취하여 전통적이면서도 안정적인 구도의 작품을 추구하려고 하였다. 도안적인 형태는 3차원의 입체적인 소재를 2차원적으로 만들었고, 산수화의 이동시점을 정물화에 적용시키는 계기가 되었다. 또한 본인은 작품에서 비례와 조형성을 중요한 요소로 보고, 선과 면의 적절한 조화와 황금분할로 편안하고 정적인 분위기를 이끌어내고자 하였다. 이러한 결과로 얻어진 작품들을 분석함으로써 본인의 작품 세계를 정리하여 스스로 도약하는 계기로 삼고자 한다.
