교육공학의 통신이론적 기반에 대한 연구

Abstract

교육공학은 어떤 학문 분야보다도 실천적 기능이 강조되는 학문으로 이러한 실천적인 적용을 위해서는 무엇보다 뚜렷한 이론적 기반을 필요로 한다. 교육공학과 커뮤니케이션 연구 사이의 상호유익한 관계는 (각각의 분야에 대한 많은 연구 발전은 있었으나) 20∼30년 전의 시청각통신 시대 이후 점차로 약화되어 왔다. 그리고 교수 매체 연구에 있어서도 사회심리학이 주된 역할을 하는 커뮤니케이션 이론이 주류로 들어오지 못하고 행동주의 학습이론과 프로그램 학습의 영향을 많이 받았다는 점을 인식하고 이러한 문제에 대하여, 교육공학과 커뮤니케이션의 각각의 분야에서의 이론적인 고찰을 하고 교육공학의 통신이론적 기반에 대한 고찰로 교육공학의 기초학문 중의 하나인 커뮤니케이션 이론이 어떻게 교육공학 분야에 적용되고 연구되었는가를 살펴 보는 것이 본 연구의 목적이다. 따라서 본 논문은 현재의 교육공학 개념과 교육심리학과의 밀접한 제휴에 대한 비판에 있는 것이 아니라, 커뮤니케이션 이론도 학습이론과 같은 실천상의 적용으로 교육공학 내에서 연구되어야 하겠다는데 촛점을 맞추었다. 본 논문의 연구 내용은 다음과 같다. 1. 교육공학의 이론적 고찰로서 교육공학의 발달상의 기원과 개념적 관점에 관하여 살피고 2. 커뮤니케이션의 이론적 고찰로 Human Communication의 세가지 기본 형태와 교육공학에 의미있는 기여를 한 커뮤니케이션 모델 6가지를 설명하였다. 3. 교육공학의 통신이론적 기반에 대한 고찰로, 초기 시청각시대부터 최근에 이르기까지 교육공학 내의 커뮤니케이션 연구에 있어서의 특징, 범위 및 개념과 시대적인 변화과정에서 나타나는 여러 가지 커뮤니케이션 연구들에 대하여 시대별로 서술하였다. 그리고 행동주의 학습이론 및 그 외의 교육심리학의 영향으로 볼 수 있는 매체-태도 간의 연구에 대하여 밝히고 교수매체 연구에 대한 AVCR 25년 동안의 분야별 논문에 대한 설명을 하였다. 이러한 연구결과에 의하면, 교육공학은 그 분야의 개념적인 틀을 형성하는 기초학문들과의 긴밀한 유대관계를 갖고 연구되어야 하며, 특히 인간 학습의 기본 과정이 커뮤니케이션 과정 및 커뮤니케이션 System이기 때문에 이 두 분야 사이의 상호 유익한 관계와 Interdisciplinary Research가 있어야겠다는 것이다. 이러한 작업은 아직도 다른 개별 학문들과 같이 역사가 깊지 못한 교육공학의 이론에 대한 깊이있는 연구에서부터 출발하여 그 실천 기능이 강조되는 전문직으로서 실행분야에서의 많은 연구가 뒤따라야 할 것이다.;Educational technology is a science which emphasizes practical function more than any other fields. For the practical application it needs clear theoretical bases. The mutually beneficial link between educational technology and communication which established 20 or 30 years ago has weakened seriously, although each field has been regarded and developed respectively. Educational media research has been mainly affected by the behavioristic learning theory and programed instruction. In the early sixties, programed instruction had a major impact on educational technology, but the communication theory did not. The broad field of communication research, in which social psychology played a key role, hasn't become fully intergrated with the mainstream of educational media research. This paper is not a criticism of educational technology's close affiliation with behavioristic learning theory, but a suggestion on the practical application of communication theory to the educational technology. The contents of this paper are as follows: First, this paper deals with theoretical consideration of educational technology; origin and development of educational technology, conceptional view point of educational technology, and relation between educational technology and communication. Second, this paper briefly review communication theories, including 3 basic types of human communication, and 6 communication models which made a significant contribution to educational technology. Finally this paper covers communication research; characteristics, scopes, concepts and chronical properties of communication research from early audiovisual communication movement to these days, and relation between media and attitude which may be regarded as the effect of educational psychology as well as behavioristic learning theory. The outcome of this study shows that the educational technology should be closely tied to communication theory, because educational technology can be a desirable objective for the application of communication theories and concept, and communication theory should be more often and more intelligently applied to the educational technology. So interdisciplinary studies and research should be undertaken by scholars both from commication theory and from educational technology.
