표면장식에 의한 의상디자인 연구

Abstract

This study is aimed at helping to produce creative design and providing new idea for design creation by studying surface decoration technique and the design cases as surface fashion with various details has prevailed since the end of the last century. Unique and new texture through decoration can provide psychological satisfaction to modern people who like to earn attention and seek individuality. When it comes to research method, I studied literature, pictures and internet sites based on the prior researches. I studied origin, manufacturing skills and kinds of surface decoration by referring to related literature and dictionary throughout the 20th century. Also I looked for modern fashion design cases by referring to fashion-related magazines and collection-related internet sites since the late 1990s. Then, I designed creative apparel based on the images through the research. Prior to design through surface decoration, I studied general relief effect. I studied surface effects and texture as formative factors of design, and then based on this, I defined concept of relief effect. In addition, I approached to relief effect more extensively by studying methods to earn relief effect, material of design, prior to surface decoration. Techniques for surface decoration are divided into ①quilting, ②pleats, ③embroidery, ④slash, ⑤attachment in accordance with the way to produce relief effect. ①Quilting, relief effect with revealed volume from inside of the surface, is divided into wadded quilting, stuffed quilting and corded quilting. ②Pleats, shadow effect in accordance with surface changes, are divided into gather(shirring, frill, ruffle, ruche / flare ; flounce), linear(tucks, pleats) and mixing(smocking). ③Embroidery, effect expressed by passing thread into the surface, has characters such as texture effect through embroidery threads and stitches and various patterns and colors. ④Slash, relief effect through processing cut surface, has contrast effect of inside and outside, color contrast effect, and texture effect. Finally, ⑤attachment, relief effect expressed by attaching other materials to surface, has various changes in volume and texture in accordance with the material and the way of attachment. The result of studying real design cases of relief decoration reflected in modern fashion is as follows. First, emphasizing design through part decoration. Second, reconstructing the surface. Third, mixing and deforming techniques and materials. Surface decoration in modern fashion expresses various images. Romantic and elegant images express flamboyant and rich emotions or soft emotions through feminine pleats including shirring, frill and ruffle, and techniques including beads or embroidery. Ethnic and vintage images are expressed as handicraft decoration and antique touch through patchwork, applique, beading and embroidery. In addition, decoration in linear line such as tucks or pleats and piping are expressed as modern and sporty images through rhythmical line. Finally, avantgarde images are mostly emphasized its size or application of decoration. Based on the images of surface decoration extracted from the modern fashion, I designed total 5 works, two works with concept of 'opulence', romantic and elegant image, one work with concept of 'handcraft-deco', vintage image, two works with concept of 'rhythmical line' with modern image. I targeted individual women in their late 20s to mid-30s with free emotions and rich sense, and set the apparel for occasions. I formed work direction including diagram and then produced works by selecting proper decoration technique, material and color. The present research was aimed at providing practical data for design by studying techniques of relief decoration and design cases and collecting and arranging decorative design that had been sporadically carried out. The study on relief and unique surface effect can be a way to effectively stimulate and meet emotions of modern people with various taste and individuality and free expression ways. In addition, as the technique feeling human touch emphasizes emotional aspect breaking from simplification and unification, it can be a way to solve the problem of restoring humanism that emerges a serious issue in modern society.;본 연구는 21세기를 전후하여 수공예적인 세련된 고급품을 지향하는 다양한 디테일의 장식 패션이 크게 유행하고 있는 것에 착안, 봉제기법을 중심으로 표면장식의 기법과 그 디자인 사례를 살펴봄으로써 디자인 창작을 위한 새로운 아이디어를 제공하는데 그 목적이 있다. 또한 다양한 장식기법을 체계화시키고 이들이 현대 패션에 표현된 사례를 제시하여 봉제기법에 의한 장식 디자인을 집대성하였다. 연구방법은 선행 연구를 토대로 실증자료, 문헌자료, 비디오 및 사진자료를 주로 하여 장식 기법의 유래, 제작방법, 종류 등을 살펴보았다. 현대 패션의 디자인 사례는 장식기법이 두드러지게 나타나기 시작한 1990년대 후반부터 최근까지 패션 정보지와 파리, 밀라노, 뉴욕, 동경, 런던 컬렉션지 및 컬렉션 전문 인터넷 사이트의 자료 등을 참고하였다. 패션산업의 질(質) 경쟁 시대에 정교하고 고급스러운 장식을 통한 표면의 입체적인 표면효과는 신선한 느낌을 주는 동시에 개성을 추구하는 현대의 소비자에게 심리적 만족감을 줄 수 있다. 패션 디자인에 있어 입체적 표면효과의 특징과 표현양상을 파악하기 위해 디자인의 조형요소인 표면효과와 텍스처의 역할을 살펴보았다. 또한 가공에 의한 입체적 표면효과를 고찰해봄으로서 입체적 표면효과에 대해 보다 포괄적으로 접근하였다. 표면 장식의 기법은 입체감을 주는 유형에 따라 퀼팅, 주름, 자수, 절개, 부착으로 나누어 각 기법의 제작 방법과 종류 등에 대해 살펴보았다. 퀼팅은 표면의 안쪽을 채워 넣은 두께감이 겉으로 드러나는 볼륨형의 입체감으로 볼륨의 형태에 따라 전체형(와드 퀼팅), 부분형(스터프 퀼팅), 라인형(코드 퀼팅)으로 구분했다. 주름은 표면을 오그리거나 접어서 생기는 표면 변화에 따른 음영의 효과로 단면의 형태에 따라 곡선형(개더형 ; 셔링, 프릴, 러플, 루시 / 플레어형 ; 플라운스), 직선형(플리츠, 턱), 혼합형(스모킹)으로 표현되었다. 자수는 자수사와 스티치에 의하거나, 입체적인 자수기법, 부가 재료 등을 통해 표면감촉의 효과, 다채로운 패턴과 색채 전개 등이 나타났다. 절개는 잘려진 표면의 조형적 처리를 통한 입체적 표현이 특징적으로 단순절개나, 절개된 피스의 조형적 처리, 절개면 안쪽의 이중 처리 등을 통해 표리 대비효과, 색채 대비효과, 질감의 효과 등이 나타났다. 부착은 표면에 동일하거나 혹은 유사한 재료를 부착하거나(패치워크, 아플리케), 다른 재료(비즈, 시퀸, 테이프, 파이핑, 단추, 모피·깃털, 스터드 등)를 덧붙여서 입체감을 표현하는 형태로 부착되는 재료와 부착 방법 등에 따라 두께감과 표면질감에 다양한 변화가 가능하였다. 현대 패션에 나타난 입체적 표면장식의 디자인 사례를 살펴본 결과 그 특징은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 부분장식의 경우 시선을 자극하는 디자인의 포인트 역할을 하며 신체의 일부분을 강조하거나 디자인 라인을 강조하는 역할을 하였다. 둘째, 시선을 모으는 특별한 구심점 없이 전체적으로 장식된 경우는 장식 자체가 새로 구성된 소재의 표면처럼 보이게 되는데 입체감의 양상에 따라 표면 감촉형, 세밀한 요철형, 리드미컬한 입체형, 조각적인 구조물형, 볼륨감 있는 입체형으로 나눌 수 있었다. 셋째, 전통적인 재료와 기법이 지닌 표현의 한계를 뛰어 넘는 방법으로 기존의 기법을 변용하거나 기법과 소재를 자유롭게 혼합, 변용하는 방법 등이 있었다. 현대 패션에서 표면장식은 다양한 이미지를 표현하였다. 표면장식이 가장 흔하게 나타내는 이미지는 로맨틱, 엘레강트 이미지로 여성적인 프릴(frill), 러플(ruffle), 셔링(shirring) 등의 주름장식이나 비즈(beads), 자수(embroidery) 장식 등이 화려하고 풍부한 감성(opulence)이나 하늘거리는 부드러운 감성(whispering)을 표현하였다. 에스닉, 빈티지 이미지는 특히 손맛을 많이 느낄 수 있는 패치워크나 아플리케, 비딩, 자수 등의 장식에서 정감 있는 수공예적 장식(handcraft-deco)과 앤티크 터치(antique touch)로 나타났다. 턱이나 플리츠, 파이핑 등 직선적인 라인의 장식은 모던, 스포티한 감성을 리드미컬 라인(rhythmical line)으로 표현하였다. 마지막으로 표면장식이 아방가르드한 이미지를 나타내기도 했는데 이는 주로 장식의 사이즈나 적용에 있어 과장된 경우(exaggeration)가 대표적이었다. 이상의 결과를 표로 정리하면 다음과 같다. <표 7-1> 입체적 표면장식의 분석 결과표 ◁표 삽입▷(원문을 참조하세요) 이상과 같은 연구 결과와 현대 패션에서 도출한 표면장식의 이미지를 토대로 로맨틱, 엘레강트 이미지인 ‘opulence’를 컨셉으로 2점, 빈티지 이미지인 ‘handcraft-deco'를 컨셉으로 1점, 모던 이미지인 ‘rhythmical line’으로 2점, 총 5점의 실물 작품을 디자인하였다. 타깃은 자유로운 감성으로 리치한 감각을 소화할 수 있는 20대 후반부터 30대 중반까지의 개성적인 여성으로 하였고 특별한 날을 위한 의상으로 하였다. 도식화를 포함한 작업 지시서를 작성한 후 이미지에 어울리는 장식기법과 소재, 색상을 선택하여 작품을 제작하였다. 본 연구는 입체적 표면장식의 기법과 디자인 사례를 포괄적으로 살펴봄으로써 기존에 산발적으로 이루어지던 장식적 디자인을 정리, 집대성하여 디자인을 위한 실질적 자료가 될 수 있도록 하였다. 또한 고급 봉제 기술을 이용한 장식의 연구를 통해 패션의 고부가가치화를 추구하고 패션 산업의 국제 경쟁력 제고에 이바지할 수 있도록 하였다.
