중년기 기혼 남녀의 결혼 생활 및 만족에 관한 연구

Abstract

본 연구는 동거기간 20년 이상의 중년기부부들의 이혼율이 급증하고 있는 현상에 대하여 중년기 기혼남녀들의 실제 결혼만족도를 파악하고, 결혼만족도에 차이를 나타내는 인구사회학적 특성과 결혼에 관한 일반적 특성을 파악함으로써 중년기부부의 가족결속력 강화를 위한 사회사업적 개입을 모색하는데 목적이 있다. 본 연구에서는 중년기 기혼 남녀들의 인구사회학적 특성과 결혼에 관한 일반적 특성에 따라 결혼만족도를 살펴보았다. 인구사회학적 특성에는 11가지 항목으로 나뉘어 살펴보았고, 결혼에 관한 일반적 특성은 부부의사소통과 부부폭력 피해경험 등을 포함한 7가지 하위내용으로 구분하여 결혼만족도의 차이를 보았다. 사용된 척도로는 Roach(1981)의 M. S. S.(Marital Satisfaction Scale), Coopersmith(1967)의 Self-Esteem Inventory, Olson(1983)의 ENRICH (Enriching and Nurturing Relationship Issues, Communication and Happiness)를 사용하였다. 자료수집은 서울 중랑구 지역에 거주하는 40세-59세의 중년기 기혼 남녀를 대상으로 현재 별거나 이혼을 하지 않은 상태의 기혼자를 편의표집을 실시하였다. 설문은 구조화된 질문지를 통해 자기기입식 응답방법을 활용하여 조사하였다. 배부된 설문지는 총 220부였으며, 이중 195부를 실제 분석에 사용하였다. 자료의 분석을 위해 SPSS 통계 프로그램을 이용하여 빈도, 백분율, 일원량분석(Oneway ANOVA), 추후검증으로 Scheffe' 검증, 적률상관관계 분석을 실시하였다. 본 연구에서 살펴본 중년기부부들의 일반적 사항과 결혼에 관한 일반적 특성에 따른 결혼만족도 차이의 결과는 다음과 같다. 1. 연구대상자의 응답 분석결과 중년기 기혼 남녀들의 결혼만족도는 남녀 각각 평균 3.53, 3.32점으로 중간점수 3점보다 높은 결과를 보였다. 즉 중년기 기혼 남녀 결혼만족도는 대체적으로 높았으며, 하위영역 6개의 점수분포도 대체로 결혼만족도가 높은 것으로 나타났다. 2. 인구사회학적 특성에 따른 자아존중감과 결혼에 관한 일반적 특성인 부부의사소통 정도를 살펴본 결과 우리나라 중년기 기혼 남녀들은 자아존중감은 3.12점으로 중간점수 2.5점보다 훨씬 높은 자아존중도를 보이고 있다. 또한 부부 의사소통 점수는 평균 3.41점으로 중간점수 3점보다 높아 원활한 의사소통을 하고 있다고 생각하는 경우가 높게 나타났다. 3. 중년기 기혼 남녀의 인구사회학적 특성에 따른 결혼만족도 차이를 살펴본 결과 성별에 따라 유의미한 차이(t=2.645, P<.01)를 보이고 있었다. 즉 중년기 여성에 비해 남성이 결혼만족도가 높은 것으로 나타났다. 4. 결혼생활에 관한 일반적 특성에 따라 결혼만족도 차이를 살펴본 결과 배우자와의 결혼 전 교제기간 (F=2.826, p<.05)과 하루일과 중의 부부대화시간(F=7.530 ,p<.001)이 긴 집단이 짧은 집단에 비해, 배우자로부터 폭력의 피해경험(t=-4.999, p<.001)이 없는 집단이 있는 집단에 비해 결혼 만족도가 높은 것으로 나타났다. 부부의사소통과 결혼만족도의 상관관계는 상관계수 r=.667로 두 변수간에는 유의미한 정적 상관관계를 보이고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 즉 부부 의사소통 시간이 많을수록 결혼만족도가 높아진다고 볼 수 있다. 이 연구의 결과에서 현재 다양한 위기를 경험하고 있는 중년기부부들의 심각성과는 달리 대체적으로 결혼만족도가 높은 것으로 났다. 이것은 우리사회의 중년기 기혼 남녀들의 이혼율이 증가하고 이로 인한 가정의 해체와 가족체계 불안정으로 인한 우려에 대한 부정적인 시각보다는 긍정적인 관심을 불러일으킨다. 즉 사회의 기본조직인 가정의 위기로 인해 사회의 불안정이 야기되고 있는 시점에서 건강한 가정을 위한 올바른 부부관계에 대한 정립과 더욱 활발한 연구의 필요성을 강조할 수 있었다. ;As divorce rate of middle age couples who have been married for over 20 years increases, in this study, we have looked at marital satisfaction of middle age couples. We have also looked for demographic values and general characteristics of marriages that affect marital satisfaction. The main goal of this paper is to find out the ways of intervening in social work by gathering these values and characteristics of marriages. In this study, degree of marriage satisfaction could be identified by demographic factors of middle age couples and general characteristics of marriage. We have looked at eleven different demographic factors including self-esteem of middle age couples. We have sub-categorized seven general characteristics of marriage. i.e. communications between couples, experiences of abuses. For this research, we have referred to M. S. S.(Marital Satisfaction Scale) by Roach(1981), Self-Esteem Inventory by Coopersmith(1967), and ENRICH (Enriching and Nurturing Relationship Issues, Communication and Happiness) by Olson(1983). We have surveyed middle age married couples in their 40s and 50s living in Choongrang-ku, Seoul, who had not been separated or divorced. The structured questionnaires were given to individuals for answers. The total of 220 copies of questionnaires having been distributed, 195 copies were actually used for the analysis. For data analysis, SPSS PC program was used to obtain frequency, percentile, one-way ANOVA, and Scheffe results. General characteristics of middle age couples and marriages show different degree of marital satisfaction. 1. From the survey analysis, we were able to recognizehigh level of marital satisfaction among middle age couples with the figure showing 3.53, 3.32 points. Even the bottom six figures also showed pretty high level of marital satisfaction. 2. By looking at the degree of self-esteem and the degree of communication between middle age couples, Korean couples showed very high level of self-esteem with 3.12 points, which exceeds the medium level of 2 points. The level of communications was not low either showing 3.41 points, which indicates the couples were communicating fairly well. 3. As we analyzed degree of marital satisfaction by demographic factors, we were able to see that middle age men, compared to women, showed high level of marital satisfaction. 4. As we looked at general characteristics of marriages, we were able to find differences in marital satisfaction as follows. In case a married couple has longer dating period before marrying each other, and in case a couple has longer communication period with each other in one day, showed higher level of marital satisfaction. Also, the less one partner abuses the other partner showed higher level of marital satisfaction. We are currently facing high level of divorce rate in middle age couples, which leads to disruption and instabilities of families. However, through this study, we were able to see that the marital satisfaction of middle age couples were still pretty high, despite the various crisis. In order to secure the stability of our society, sound families and marriages would be the essential factors. Therefore, we would have to further study and develop support programs that could help to build and maintain high level of marital satisfaction.
