과학관의 교육 활동과 학교 교육의 연계성

Abstract

학교 교육에 다양성을 부과하고자 여러 노력들이 정부 및 비정부 조직의 차원에서 시도되고 있지만 여전히 제한적인 수준에 머물러 있다. 이러한 현실에서 학교의 울타리를 넘어 시대적 변화에 부응하고 보다 창의적이며 유연한 사고를 갖도록 시도되는 학교 밖 과학 활동은 매우 효과적인 동시에 절실한 시대적 요청이다. 과학관의 방문은 학생들이 학교 수업 이외에 과학에 대한 흥미와 탐구를 경험 할 수 있는 대표적인 학교 밖 과학 활동의 한가지이다. 그러나 아직도 과학관에서 이루어지는 활동은 주로 전시물 관람에 그치고 있어서 교육적 측면에서 과학관의 운영에 있어 대폭 개선의 목소리가 높다. 그러므로 과학관은 다양하고 흥미로운 교육 활동 프로그램의 모색이 필요하며 이에 관련된 연구가 국외에서는 꾸준히 수행되고 있는 실정이다. 하지만 아직 국내에서는 과학관의 교육 활동에 관한 체계적인 연구가 미흡하며 학교 밖 과학 활동의 일환으로 과학관의 교육 활동과 학교 교육의 연계성에 관한 연구가 필요하다. 이에 따라 본 연구는 첫째, 외국의 과학관인 일본의 국립과학관, 영국의 런던과학관, 미국의 보스턴 과학관을 선정하여 교육활동 프로그램을 분석하고 우리에게 주는 시사점을 알아보았다. 둘째, 우리나라 국립과학관인 서울과학관과 중앙과학관의 특징과 교육 활동에 대해서 알아보고 이를 학교 밖 과학활동의 일환으로 이용할 수 있는 방안을 모색하여 학교 교육과 연계할 수 있는지를 알아보았다. 셋째, 현직 과학교사 130명을 대상으로 현재 과학관에서 이루어지는 교육 활동 프로그램에 관한 인식을 조사하였다. 본 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 1. 외국의 과학관은 교육 담당자들에 의해 계획된 강연, 강의, 실험실습, 야외학습, 체험 학습 등 다양한 프로그램이 학교 교육과 잘 연계되어 이루어지고 있었다. 특히 과학 교사들이 참여할 수 있는 공간이 마련되어 있으며 학교를 직접 방문하거나 전시물을 대여하는 다양한 프로그램들이 마련되어 있었다. 2. 우리나라 과학관(서울과학관, 중앙과학관)에서 운영되는 교육 활동 프로그램은 예전에 비해서 매우 다양해졌으며 학생들이 참여할 수 있는 기회가 많아졌고 프로그램을 학교 밖 과학 활동의 범주로 분류해 본 결과 학교에서 교육활동의 일환으로 이용할 수 있는 기회의 장이 될 수 있었다. 그러나 아직도 프로그램의 운영이나 제한된 활동이 교사들로 하여금 학교 교육과 연결되어 교육 활동이 이루어지지 못하는 걸림돌이 되고 있다. 3. 과학교사들은 과학관을 이용하는데 학생들의 정의적 영역에 목적을 두고 있었으며 학교 일정상의 제약으로 인해 체험학습 위주의 교육활동에 치중하고 있었다. 또한 과학관에서 이루어지는 다양한 교육 활동 중에서 전시물 관람에 교육 활동이 치중되어 있어 좀더 다양한 교육 활동에 참여할 수 있는 방안이 모색될 필요성이 제기되었다. 또한 과학관에 관한 정보나 홍보활동이 매우 부족했으며 과학관이 학교 교육과 연계되어 이루어지기 위해서는 무엇보다 학교 일정과 맞아야 하며 학교 교육과정에 맞는 프로그램의 개발이 필요하다고 응답하였다. 과학관은 학교 밖 교육 활동으로서 좋은 기회의 장을 제공할 수 있으며 학교 교육과 연계를 이루기 위해서는 학교 교육과정에 따른 여러 프로그램들의 개발이 필요하다. 따라서 후속 연구로서 과학관의 교육 활동을 학교 교육과정에 맞는 프로그램으로 개발하는 연구들이 지속적으로 이루어져야 할 것이다.

; In order to impose variety to standardized and organized school education system, there are many formal and informal methods have been tried, however our system is still in restrictive level. In this situations, out-of-school science activity that measure up to changeable current ages, creative and flexible cogitation, are very effectual as well as pressing aged demand. Visiting a museum for students is one of out-of-school science activity of experiencing and getting interest of science. However, most of our science museums have been just exhibited without actual activities. Therefore, we need to develop some more interesting and exciting the educational activities of science museum These kinds of subject have been studied in many other foreign countries. However for our science museum, systematic study is insufficient. The extension of curriculum , a way of out-of-school science activity, we need to investigate for connection of school curriculum and develop more the educational activities of science museum. The purposes of this study are to study that characteristic foreign science museum and korea national science museum and to study that educational activities as well as how to concatenate to out-of-school science activity. This study was done with 130 science teachers who are in the Middle Schools and High School in Seoul, Kyougki-do, Daejeun. This study examined the present status that science teacher use field trips in their class and studied that how science teachers think about educational activities of science museums. The final results of this study are as follows. First, a number of programs such as science show, lecture, demonstrations, hands-on exhibit hall, semina, experiment class, and field trip, have been related with school curriculum by science museum educator are offered in foreign science museum. Especially there is a place for school teachers, and a program that museum can visit schools or rent exhibitions. Second, our science museum's activity programs have been improved so that students can have more chance to experience. As a result of science activity points of view, our activity programs can be used for schools. However the management is insufficient such as operating programs, and connection to school education system, and so on. Third, the investigation for how teachers think about museum's education activity programs, they utilize the science museum to purpose on student's affective domain, and because of the lack of time for planning, they only utilize science museum as experiential learning. They also stress on exhibiting rather than participating some activity programs among science museum's variety activity programs. They also thought that information is so insufficient and needing programs with school schedule and school curriculum in order to connect to school system. Teachers agreed to plan science field trip related to school curriculum. And Science museum can be good place for out-of-school science activity. Therefore, we have to develop the educational activities of science museum related to school curriculum to study using the educational activities of science museum effectively.
