장식적 소재를 이용한 새의 표현

Abstract

In the East, paintings with flowers and birds are called Bird and Flower Painting. It has been categorized this way since the emperor Huizong, during the Northern Song dynasty in China. Bird and Flower Paintings must have a realistic depiction, symbolic meaning and beautiful colors. Our ancestors have given symbolic meanings to each bird since ancient times. Bird and Flower Paintings make up a large amount of folk paintings that were popular during the Chosun dynasty. If we happen to venture a little further from the city, we might also encounter other types of birds such as ducks, geese and chickens. It is easy to see birds around us. Largely, the most common birds that we usually see in our everyday lives are pigeons and sparrows. These days, birds are raised as pets just like dogs and cats, so we are familiar with birds, and we tend to see them as part of our daily lives. I was fascinated with the way birds look, especially their unique and impressive figures. Therefore, my thesis focused on using glittering materials and primary colors to represent the form of birds. Historically, animals have appeared in art since the beginning. It is apparent that animals were given a great amount of importance in art. Among all of the animals, birds showed up in various forms, ranging from realistic depictions to imaginative interpretations. Birds are presented differently in art depending on its origin and period. Asian artists concentrated on expressing liveliness while western artists have focused on precisive and detail description. I analyzed which particular characteristics of birds artists have historically considered interesting, especially in the formative and plastic arts. Then I narrated birds in Asian and Korean art. In Asian art, I tried to study Bird and Flower Paintings from ancient Chinese art to art in the Chung dynasty. I examined the molding and symbols of birds which appeared on the earthen ware or celadon in Korean art. Particularly I researched and compared the shapes of birds in Bird and Flower Paintings. Methodically, I used spangles and beads to express the shape of the legs, the feet and the bright shiny feathers. Spangles, which are often used for adding magnificence in clothes, and beads that are used for making accessories. I manifested birds in funny poses. I utilized black background to contrast with the birds. Finally, through the analysis of my individual 10 paintings, I intended to explain my approach to depicting birds, the materials I used, the results of my paintings, and ideas for future research.;동서양을 막론하고 새는 조형예술 작품 제작에 좋은 소재가 될 수 있다. 동양에서는 꽃과 새를 그린 그림을 화조화(花鳥畵)라 부르는데 이는 중국 북송(北宋)의 휘종(徽宗)때부터 분리 된 것이다. 화조화는 정확한 관찰에 의한 사실성(事實性)과 상징성(象徵性)을 갖추어야 하며 대개 고운 색채가 사용된 것이 특징이다. 우리 조상들은 고대부터 새에 관한 상징적 의미를 부여해 왔으며 화조화는 조선조 이후 일반에 퍼져있던 민화 가운데도 다수를 차지하고 있다. 우리 주위를 돌아보면 쉽게 새를 볼 수 있다. 일상에서 가장 흔히 접하는 새로는 비둘기와 참새가 있겠고, 조금 더 도시를 벗어나면 오리와 거위, 닭도 쉽게 접할 수 있다. 요즘은 개와 고양이 다음으로 애완용으로 많이 키우고 있어 우리에게 매우 친숙한 존재이기도 하다. 주위에 있는 새들의 여러 가지 모습 중 특히 인상 깊은 재미있는 모습에 매료되어 그것을 반짝이는 재료와 원색을 이용하여 표현하고자 색과 오브제를 중심으로 연구하였다. 역사적으로 미술의 시작과 함께 동물이 등장하였다. 이는 미술에 있어서의 동물의 비중이 큼을 알 수 있다. 동물 중에서도 새들은 미술에서 실재의 새부터 상상 속의 새 까지 많은 종류의 새들이 우리의 미술사에 등장하였다. 새들은 각 민족과 시대에 따라 각각 다르게 표현되었다. 정밀하고 세밀한 묘사가 중심이 된 서양에 비하여 동양에서는 그 고유의 대상마다 가지고 있는 생명감을 표현하는데 주력하였다. 이러한 작품을 표현하는 데 있어 동양 미술에 나타난 새의 의미를 살펴보고 한국 미술에 나타난 새의 의미를 연구하며 본인의 작품에 자주 등장하는 색들 각각이 갖는 일반적 의미와 작품에서의 의미를 찾아 살펴보았다. 방법적으로는 대중예술의 측면에서 바라 본 본인의 조형화 방법과 스팽글과 비즈라는 오브제를 이용한 새의 표현, 원색에 가까운 화려한 색채들의 이용과 검은 배경의 상징적 의미에 대해 서술해 보았다. 조형적 기법으로 흔히 옷의 화려함을 더 할 때 쓰이는 스팽글과 악세사리를 만들 때 많이 사용되는 비즈를 본인의 작품에 사용하였고, 이는 빛에 반사되어 나오는 여러 가지 영롱한 빛깔의 깃털과 새의 다리와 발의 모습을 표현하고자 사용하였다. 이러한 재료들을 이용하여 민화에서와 같이 재미있는 모습의 새들을 본인의 작품에 색을 이용하여 표현하였다. 이를 더욱 돋보이게 해하기 위하여 검은 배경을 이용하였다. 마지막으로 본인의 몇 몇 작품들을 살펴보며 그 안에서 소재로 쓰인 새들이 갖는 의미와 표현과정 및 작품분석을 통하여 어떻게 하여 그 대상들을 표현하려 하였는지와 앞으로의 작업에서 보완해 나가야 할 점이 무엇인가에 대해 연구하고자 하였다.
