Nutrition survey 2001 national health and nutrition survey Republic of Korea

Abstract

This M.A thesis project is an English version of the Nutrition Survey of the 2001 National Health and Nutrition Survey (NS-2001 NHNS) of the Republic of Korea (ROK). Under the direction of the Ministry of Health and Welfare of the ROK, the Korea Health Industry Development Institute produced the Korean version of the NS-2001 NHNS in December 2002. The NS-2001 NHNS contributes to the government policy-making process by providing reliable information on the nutritional status of the public. The NS-2001 NHNS also aims at providing practical and timely information to the health professionals, researchers, and students in the field of health and nutrition. In the production process of the English version of the NS-2001 NHNS, two population-based survey reports, the Third Report on Nutrition Monitoring (TRONM) of the United States and the 2000/01 National Diet and Nutrition Survey (2000/01 NDNS) of the Unite Kingdom, were analyzed in order to make improvements and recommendations for further change in the NS-2001 NHNS in the areas of organization, writing style, typographical format, and graphics, in accordance with effective writing principles and conventions of technical writing. A theoretical paper discussing the reorganizational and rewriting concepts and the production background for the English version of the NS-2001 NHNS prefaces this M.A. thesis project.;이 논문의 주제는 대한민국의『2001년 국민건강 영양조사: 영양조사부문』의 영문본 제작이다. 『2001년 국민건강 영양조사: 영양조사부문』은 보건복지부 산하 한국보건산업진흥원의 보건영양팀이 2002년 12월에 작성한 보고서이다. 이 보고서의 목적은 국민의 건강증진과 영양개선을 위한 국가차원에서의 영양정책 및 식품정책을 계획하고 실천하는데 필요한 정확하고 신뢰성 있는 통계자료를 제공하는 데 있다. 또한 인간의 건강과 영양에 관련된 분야의 전문가들, 연구자들, 그리고 학생들에게 실질적이고 활용 가능한 정보를 제공하는 것을 목표로 한다. 본 논문의 저자는 『2001년 국민건강 영양조사: 영양조사부문』의 영문본 제작 과정에서, 효과적인 기술영작(technical writing)을 위한 원칙을 적용하여, 구성(organization), 문체(writing style), 인쇄 모양(typographical format), 그리고 도식(graphics)의 부분을 개선했으며, 이를 위하여 미국의『Third Report on Nutrition Monitoring (TRONM)』과 영국 『2000/01 National Diet and Nutrition Survey (2000/01 NDNS)』의 장점 분석이 선행되었다. 본 논문의 전반부에서는『2001년 국민건강 영양조사: 영양조사부문』의 영문본 제작 배경, 사용된 방법론, 또한 기존 보고서의 개선방안을 논하였고, 후반부에는『2001년 국민건강 영양조사: 영양조사부문』의 영문본을 실었다.
