웹 기반 교육용 포럼 서버를 이용한 수행평가 지원 시스템

Abstract

우리는 고도화된 정보화 사회에서 살고 있다. 컴퓨터와 정보통신기술의 발달이 결합된 인터넷이라는 거대한 가상공간은 오늘날 그 중요성이 모든 분야에 적용되고 있으며, 특히 교육의 분야에서는 인터넷 기술을 이용하여 광범위한 인터넷 상의 자원들을 교육적 용도에 활용할 수 있으며, 교육형태에 관해서도 개선된 학습환경을 제공하고 있다. 인터넷 서비스를 기반으로 하는 교육의 형태에 대한 활발한 연구가 이루어지고 있는데, 이와 같은 연구는 크게 학습내용, 학습방법, 학습평가에 대한 것으로 구분할 수 있다. 웹을 기반으로 하는 학습내용에 관한 연구는 많이 발표되고 있다. 현재, 교육에 이용되고 있는 인터넷 기술의 큰 흐름은 웹 기반 교육(WBI : Web Based Instruction)과 ICT활용 교육이다. WBI에서는 멀티미디어 활용과 상호작용을 증대시켜 전통적인 교육이 가지고 있는 한계점이나 문제점을 보완하거나 해결할 수 있는 하나의 대안으로 제시되고 있는데, 이것은 주로 학습내용과 학습방법을 개선하는 것과 관련이 있다. 반면에 학습평가에 대한 연구는 기존의 객관식 위주의 채점평가가 웹 상 에서도 그대로 적용되고 있는 실정이다. 최근 교육인적자원부에서 교육 개혁의 핵심내용으로 <교육비전 2002 : 새학교 문화 창조>를 제시한 바 있다. 이에 학교교육의 정상화 추진에 있어 세부 사항 중 하나가 학습자를 총체적으로 이해하고 평가할 수 있도록 평가의 다양성 측면에서 수행평가 방법을 적극적으로 도입하여 확대실시하자는 것이다. 수행평가는 학습자의 학습결과 뿐만 아니라 학습을 수행해 나가는 과정에 대한 평가도 함께 이루어지므로 학생 개개인의 발달 상황을 종합적으로 평가할 수 있으며, 창의성, 비판적 사고력 등의 고등사고능력을 측정할 수 있는 전인적인 평가를 중시하는 방법이다. 그러나 이러한 수행평가의 장점에도 불구하고 그 시행과정에서 여러 가지 현실적인 문제점 가령, 수행평가 채점을 위한 시간과 공간 확보의 어려움 등으로 인하여 학교교육 현장에서는 원래의 취지를 충분히 살려서 평가되고 있지 못한 상황이다. 이에 본 연구에서는 수행평가의 현실적 문제점을 인식하고 평가로 인한 교사의 시간과 노력을 최소화할 수 있는 웹 기반 지원 시스템을 설계하고 구현하였다. 웹의 다양한 특성을 이용하여 수행평가를 실시한다면 학교 현장에서의 수행평가 문제점이나 제한성을 극복할 수 있다. 또한 본 논문에서 주목할 만한 것은 웹 포럼 서버를 이용하여 시스템을 설계한 것이다. 일반적으로 웹 인터페이스를 설계하기 위해서는 Apache나 IIS와 같은 HTTP 서버와 데이터베이스 서버를 설치하고 HTML이나 Script 페이지를 작성하는 등 많은 작업을 필요로 한다. 따라서 교사들이 그들이 원하는 방향으로 직접 시스템을 구현해서 운영·관리하기란 그리 쉽지 않다. 하지만, 웹 포럼 서버를 이용하면 별도의 HTTP 서버나 데이터베이스 서버를 설치할 필요 없이 게시판이나 자료실 등을 활용한 수행평가 지원 시스템을 보다 쉽게 구현하고 효과적으로 관리할 수 있다. 학교교육 현장에서 교사들이 웹 포럼 서버를 이용하여 다양한 수행평가 지원 시스템을 쉽게 구축하여 효과적으로 활용하기를 기대한다. ;Today, we live in a highly informative society. Owing to information and communication technology development, the application of the huge cyberspace called Internet is used in various fields of society, especially in educational area, a wide range of resources on the Internet provides a good quality learning environment. There has been a lot of research on the educational application of the Internet and they are classified according to learning content, method, and evaluation. Many reports on web based learning contents have been published. These days, the main stream Internet technology in the curriculum is WBI(Web Based Instruction) and ICT(Information and Communication Technology). WBI is considered as one of alternative education programs which can solve the problems or limitations of traditional education systems because it can improve learning contents and methods through multimedia application and interaction. On the other hand, the traditional multiple choices are still used for the research on the evaluation of the web based learning. Recently, the Korean Ministry of Education launched an educational campaign in order to create a New School Culture by announcing the reform package titled <Vision for Education beyond 2002 : Creation of a New School Culture>. The reform package aimed at changing the traditional school culture into a more autonomous and diverse one which will make students more creative. Thus, it demands performance assessment for the evaluation of creativity. The performance assessment is designed to test the learner's development in real world situations. It evaluates not only the effects but also the process of learning. Despite these educational strong points, the performance assessment are hardly conducted because of the realistic difficulties in terms of time and space. Therefore, this study focused on designing and implementing web based supporting system which can take advantage of performance assessment effectively with a minimum of examiner's effort. And, it is important that this study designed the performance assessment supporting system using web based educational forum server. Generally, to design web based interface requires a complex and time consuming procedure such as setting up HTTP and Database severs, and making HTML or Script pages. It is not easy for teacher to design, implement, and manage web based system as they want. However, web based forum server enable performance assessment supporting system that can take advantage of message boards and file sharing programs without setting up HTTP and Database servers. In short, this study aims to help teachers to design the various performance assessment supporting system using web based educational forum server effectively.
