세계박람회(World EXPO) 테마관의 계획과 총합적 디자인 프로세스에 관한 연구

Abstract

Today we live in a world undergoing a revolutionary change -- from an industrialized society to a new post-industrialized society in the 21st Century. Man's ceaseless efforts to bring Mother Nature under control, and its subsequent successes in this endeavor during this century, have enabled us to enjoy many benefits of the opulent material civilization through mechanical mass production. On the other hand, however, man's mechanical way of thinking, coupled with its thoughtless development undermining the balance of Nature, has caused many serious problems that threaten the existence of mankind itself. If mankind continue to pursue development in this way, it is bound to come headlong to its own downfall sooner or later through exhaustion of the earth's natural resources and pollution of its environment. In this study, through planning and designing of the theme project, the Energy Pavilion in the World EXPO, I intend to present ways to bring about a radical turn in our way of thinking, essential in resolving the many problems confronting the mankind. This study was made in the assumption that the World EXPO is going to be held in our century, and I made specials efforts to search for clues to future development of mankind on the basis of the traditional values of the Korean people who hold "harmony with the nature" important more than anything else. With this in view, I took into consideration the following in carrying out this study: 1. I systematized the study objectives and methods and defined its physical scope. 2. I recognized the following four categories in planning and executing the theme project on the basis of the definition, origin, and special features of World EXPO: a) Construction Plan: Deals with the physical features and structure of the pavilion representing the theme. b) Exhibition Plan: Dertermines the interior designs of the exhibition hall, the heart of the theme project, and its display elements. c) Visual-aid Plan: Deals with designs of Visual-aid pavilion as major medium in modern exhibition. d) Operating Plan: Pertains to providing tours and safe guidance of visitors to the theme project; operating and maintaining exhibition facilities; and organizing and sponsoring various events and public relations activities. I took a systems approach in pursuing this study regarding the theme pavilion as though it were as an organic being. 3. I analyzed and assessed through case studies the construction, exhibition, visual-aid, and operating plans of other theme projects for future reference in the ensueing course. 4. I described the circumstances how I came to select "energy" as my theme and set forth the outlines of the theme project, drawing up plans and designs for the above-mentioned four categories-construction, exhibition, visual-aid, and operation. 5. In conclusion, I offered my recommendations to resolve various problems that came to light as a result of this study. In this study, I made special efforts to cope with all kinds of Problems that are foreseen in setting up an "energy pavilion" in a (이후원문누락);오늘의 세계는 산업사회로부터 21세기의 새로운 사회로 이행하는 대변혁기에 처해 있다. 자연에 대한 인류의 끊임없는 도전과 극복으로 산업사회는 기계적 대량생산을 가능케 함으로서 인류에게 풍요로운 물질문명의 혜택을 누리게 하고 있다. 그러나, 소외된 인간의 기계적 사고와 자연의 균형을 깨뜨린 무분별한 개발은 오히려 인류의 생존을 위협하는 문제를 야기하게 되었다. 이와 같은 발전방식의 계속적인 추구는 지구자원의 고갈과 환경오염으로 인하여 머지않아 한계에 직면하게 될 것이다. 이에 본 연구는 세계박람회에서의 에너지관을 대상으로 하여, 2000년대를 바라보는 현시점에서 이러한 인류의 문제들을 해결할 수 있는 사고의 대전환과 아울러 새로운 발전에의 길을 제시하고자 한다. 대상 세계박람회를 우리나라에서 개최하는 것으로 하여 「자연과의 조화」를 중시하는 한국인의 전통적 가치관으로 새로운 발전에의 길을 모색하는 실마리를 찾고자 하는 논지 하에 다음과 같은 방법으로 연구를 진행하였다. 1. 연구목적과 연구방법을 체계화하였으며 그 구체적 범위를 한정하였다. 2. 박람회의 정의와 기원, 특징 등을 고찰, 테마관을 계획·진행하는데 있어 요구되는 4가지 카테고리를 인식하였다. 그것은 다음과 같다. 1) 건축 계획 : 테마관을 대표하는 파빌리온의 형태와 구조를 다룬다. 2) 전시 계획 : 테마관의 핵심인 전시관 내부와 전시요소를 결정하고 배치계획을 다룬다. 3) 영상 계획 : 영상관의 계획과 현대적 전시의 주요매체로서의 영상 프로그램을 계획한다. 4) 운영 계획 : 많은 관람객을 안내, 보호하며 전시요소를 관리 조절하고 행사, 홍보를 주최하여 테마관을 운영한다. 이러한 테마관을 하나의 유기체로 인식하고 시스템적 접근방법으로 진행하였다. 3. 사례연구를 통하여 다른 테마관의 건축, 전시, 영상, 운영계획을 분석·평가하여 다음과정에서 문제해결방안의 근거로 삼았다. 4. 테마관의 주제를 「에너지」로 한 경위를 설명하고 「에너지관」계획의 방향을 제시하여, 위의 4가지 범주인 건축, 전시, 영상, 운영을 계획·디자인하였다. 5. 결론에서는 이상의 연구로 얻어진 결과에 대한 문제점 인식이 이루어진다. 본 연구는 테마관의 Planning에서부터 Design과정에 이르기까지 하나의 에너지관이 박람회장 내에 이루어지기 위해 요구되는 제반 사항을 실천적, 총체적 입장에서 다루었으며, 박람회 테마관의 Planning과 Design Process의 새로운 방향을 모색하는 데에 본 연구의 의의를 둔다.
