'근접 시각'을 통한 여성적 상징성

Abstract

예술 속에서 나타나는 수많은 표상들은 작가의 몸을 통해 자신의 안과 밖 그리고 세계를 바라본 도상이다. 정신으로 이해되는 마음과 세계에 대한 인식 또한 자신의 몸의 활동으로 이루어지는 경험과 기억에서 비롯된 것이며, 그것은 다시 몸을 통해 외부로 표출되어 소통되는 것이다. 이러한 회전이 예술가에게는 작품으로서 표현되며, 세상과 만나는 것이다. 본인의 작품은 ‘여성’과 ‘몸’을 이야기 한다. 그것은 ‘나’라는 존재가 여성의 몸으로서 경험하고 세계를 인식하는 본질이기 때문이다. 또한 여성의 성 차이에 대한 인식에 대하여 남성의 시각으로 대상화되기 보다는 여성의 체험으로 자신의 주체성을 찾고자 하는 의미를 갖는다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 ‘여성의 몸’을 주제로 본인의 작업에서 표현되는 여성 이미지를 통해 개인적인 경험과 실재하고 있는 삶의 장소로서 여성의 의미를 논의한다. 현대미술 속에서 다루고 있는 신체가 과거의 이분법적인 구도 속에 갇혀있던 틀을 깨고자 하는 새로운 인식과 맞물려 있는 것과 같이 본인이 다루는 여성의 몸 또한 제도화된 시각에서 벗어난 이미지로서 어머니와 나의 관계를 통해 알아보는 것이다. 이러한 작업의 바탕은 거리를 두고 대상을 바라보는 시각적 관점 보다는 극도로 가깝게 근접된 시각으로 바라보는 접촉과도 같은 촉각적인 감각으로 여성의 신체를 탐구하는 것이다. 즉, 여성의 신체는 모성적 신체로서 ‘자궁’과 그 분비물인 ‘피’는 본인의 작업에 중심이 된다. 본인의 작품에서는 ‘자궁 이미지’를 여성의 경험과 삶의 모습으로 표현한다. 이것은 액체의 흐름을 통해 얻어진 이미지로서 자궁내의 분비물을 상징하며, 여성이 갖는 비고정적이고 비결정적인 상태를 나타낸다. 이러한 여성의 특수성은 여성의 목소리로 말해야 하는 것으로 본인의 작품에서는 이를 ‘꽃 이미지’로 표현하고 있다. 본인이 표현하는 꽃 이미지는 꽃은 정물화라는 고정적인 사고방식과 아름답고 고상하게 표현하는 외형적 바라보기를 떠나서, 자발적으로 움직여 스스로 꽃임을 드러내는 형상으로 나타난다. 이것은 물감의 흘리기와 번지기로 나타나는 자율적인 흐름을 통해 얻어진 모습으로 본인의 작업에서 주로 표현하는 기법적 요소이다. 또한 본인의 작업에 중요하게 쓰이는 재료는 ‘밀랍’과 ‘립스틱’으로서 밀랍의 촉각적인 성격과 여성성을 대표할 수 있는 립스틱을 통해 모성적 신체와 여성의 언어로서 표현하고 있다. 밀랍은 또한 본인의 입체작업에서 ‘질료적 공간’으로서 중요한 의미를 갖는다. 모성적 신체는 생명을 잉태하는 원천으로서 생산의 순환을 겪는 상태와 상황을 말하는 것으로 이것을 본인은 질료적 공간이라고 생각하였다. 따라서 밀랍의 본래적 의미인 애벌레를 낳고 기르는 장소는 이러한 질료적 공간을 나타내는 물질이 된다. 이러한 질료적 공간은 여성의 신체 내부의 자궁을 의미하며, 또한 어린 시절의 꿈과 환상이 겹쳐져 있는 장소로서 아이와 어른 그리고 세계와 나의 소통 공간이 된다. 이렇게 살펴본 본인의 작품들은 본인의 개인적인 경험과 기억을 토대로 한 것으로, 본인은 여성의 몸을 표현함으로써 어머니의 의미를 다시 찾고, 자기정체성으로서의 여성성을 나타낸다. 이렇게 본 연구에서 살펴본 여성적 이미지 표현은 본인이 앞으로도 계속적으로 탐구해 나가는 작업방향이 될 것이다. 본인은 또한 본 연구에서 논의된 많은 내용들을 앞으로도 계속 보완하여 본인의 작품을 보다 발전시키고자 한다.;Many symbols described in art are interior, external and international diagrams observed through the body of artists. The mind scape understood by psychological aspect and recognition toward the world stem from experience and memory which was acquired by the body and it comes to communication as expressed to outside through body again. This circulation is described as works when it comes to artist, and it enables communication with the world. My works tell spectators about ‘women’ and ‘body’, because it is the nature through which I, as an existence, experience with female body and recognize the world. Also, it means that the effort of female try to find one’s subjectivity based on experience against sexual prejudice, rather than being succumb tobe perceived by acknowledgment of males. In this study, it discusses the meaning of female as a place of life in which personal experience and existing life reside, through female images in works under the title of women’s body. Just like the body used in contemporary art is following the trend to break the frame existing dichotomy, the female bodies in my works are the images which are out of standardized cognition, which are acquired based on relationship between mother and I (daughter). These works were not initiated by visual perspective which observing the object from a distance by tactile sense as like touch rather than observing the object in close viewpoint. Thus, the body of women is maternal body; therefore the womb and its secretion, blood, are the nucleus materials of my works. The image of womb in my works is expressed with the image of women’s experience and the life. It is the image acquired from flow of liquid which represents secretion within womb, and it symbolizes unfixed and undetermined status of females. This special aspect of women should be discussed in a woman's voice, and it is expressed as an ‘image of flower’ in my works. The image of flower in my works are not the result of traditional recognition as an object of painting or representation of exterior beauty and glory, but the one which voluntarily moves in order to express itself as a flower. This image was made by free flow of dripping and blending of colors, a unique technique used in my works. Moreover, the materials mainly used in my works are bee's wax and lipstick, because the wax can represent tactual image and lipstick is a symbol of femininity. These materials are used to express maternal body and woman's tone. Bee's wax also has significant meaning as a ‘materialistic space’ in my cubic works. Maternal body is the origin of life which represents status and condition which undergoes circulation of birth, and it is expressed as materialistic space in my works. Therefore, bee's wax which is originally the place where bears and raises larvae can be an appropriate material to express materialistic space. This materialistic space represents uterus within female body. It is also a place where dream and illusion of childhood are overlapped, and a space for communication between children and adults, world and me. All my works were inspired by sources of my individual experiences and memories. I could the recover of mother as I expressed female bodies, as well as self-identity. As discussed above, the expression of female image would be direction of my works which I would continuously pursue. Moreover, I would like to develop my works and complement many contents on discussed in this study.
