한국 현대무용 단체의 시대별 흐름에 관한 연구

Abstract

본 연구는 한국의 현대무용 단체의 시대별 흐름을 살핌으로써 한국 현대무용 단체들의 현황과 문제점을 새롭게 정리 인식하고 미래 한국 현대무용의 발전에 중요한 기틀을 제공하고자 하였다. 한국의 현대무용은 미국의 마사 그레이엄(Martha Graham)식 방법론이 소개된 60년대를 본격적인 뿌리로 하여 30년 이상의 역사를 지녔다. 30년 동안 한국의 현대무용은 양적으로나 질적으로 놀랄만한 급성장을 이룩하여, 현재는 세계적인 수준의 공연 무대 속에서도 뒤지지 않을 정도의 위치까지 왔다. 이러한 성장을 이룩하기까지는 수많은 한국의 현대무용 단체들의 새로운 시도와 노력 등의 활발한 활동이 뒤따라야 했다. 60년대초 미국으로부터 국내에 도입된 마사 그레이엄식 현대무용은 한국의 현대무용 성장에 매우 중요한 역할을 하면서 미국 현대무용과 다른 새로운 한국 현대무용의 길을 재촉하게 하였다. 60년대 이러한 한국의 현대무용은 도입기, 개척기적인 시기를 맞이하면서 육완순이 조직한 오케시스 공연으로 새로운 현대무용의 방법론이 모색되었고, 다른 단체의 출현 없이 육완순에 의해 주도되었다. 70년대에는 육완순에 이은 김복희, 김화숙과 같은 제 2세대들의 등장과 한국 최초의 대학동문 무용단인 「한국 컨템포러리 무용단」의 탄생으로 한국 현대무용은 새로운 국면을 맞게 되면서 활발한 단체 활동이 시작되었다. 80년대에 들어서는 수많은 현대무용 단체들의 출현이 이루어졌는데 이 시기부터 대학동문 단체들의 활동과 활약은 한국 현대무용계를 주도하는 핵심적 역할을 담당하게 되었다. 90년대에도 이러한 대학동문 단체들의 출현이 계속 이어지고 있으며 그 위치 또한 변하지 않고 있다. 연구 결과, 한국의 현대무용 단체의 시대별 특성을 살펴보는 과정에서 가장 두드러지게 발견된 것은 대학동문 단체들의 활동과 활약이었다. 그러나 80년대 중반부터 동문 단체들의 폐쇄성, 비독립성, 비전문성과 같은 문제들이 제기되었고, 90년대에 들어서 이러한 문제점들은 차츰 보다 전문화 되고, 새로운 창작모임의 성격을 띤 단체 창단의 필요성을 증대시켰다. 이러한 시대에 부합하여 한국의 현대무용인들은 보다 심화된 예술철학과 확고한 프로정신을 갖고, 무용수들의 안정된 경제적 확보는 물론 대학의 동인제적 춤활동과는 분명히 구별되는 국가 차원의 제도적인 뒷받침이 있는 직업 현대무용단의 출현을 기대하는 것은, 한국 현대무용계에 매우 중요한 의미를 갖게 할 것이다. 국가적 주도 하에 보호, 육성되는 직업 현대무용단의 활성화는 현대무용인들에 대한 적절한 임금제도와 안정된 직업확보, 문화예술의 균형있는 발전, 한국 현대무용의 세계화를 위해서 반드시 이루어져야 할 것이다. 전문 직업 현대무용단의 창단은 한국의 현대무용계를 새로이 발전, 변화시킬 수 있는 열쇠가 될 것이다.;This study has a purpose to review Korean modern dance by examining the historical flow of Korean modern dance. It is also intended to offer the opportunity of Korean modern dance groups' development by aknowledging the present situation and problems of Korean modem dance groups, through the result of this study. Korean modern dance has more than 30years' history rooted in the methodology of America's Martha Graham introduced in 1960s. For the thirty years, Korean modern dance has made remarkable and radical development In its quality and quantity, and now it can compete with any other groups in a world stage. Of course, this growth has been followed by the new trials and attempts by numerous Korean modern dance groups. The Martha Graham's modern dance introduced by America in 1960s, played an important role in developing Korean modern dance, and urged it into a new, different way of Korean modern dance from American modern dance. The Korean modern dance in 1960s' has its introduction, development periods, and new modern dance methods were grouped by Yook Wan-Soon's Orchesis performance, and it was led by her without any group's appearance. In 1970s, Korean modern dance has its new phase with the appearance of the second generation such as Kim Bok-Hee, Kim Wha-Sook followed by Yook Wan-Soon, and the birth of Korean's first college alumni dance group, 「Korean Contemporary dance company」. In 1980s a lot of modern dance groups appeared, and the activities of college alumni groups started to play a major role in leading Korean modern dance from this time. In 1990s their status and appearance do not change, but the necessity of establishing more specialized and creative groups is rising. However, from mid 1980s, the problems of alumni groups such as closeness, dependence, and unprofessional characters were raised, and in 1990s, these problem became more professionalized, and amplified the necessity of establishing new creative groups. It will be very meaningful for korean dance fields to expect that Korean modem dancers have deeper art philosophy and firm professionalism, and professional modern dance groups supported by the government and distinguished from other alumni dance activity appear. The activation of professional modern dance groups supported and raised by the government should be made for proper payment system, secured profession, balanced development of art and culture and the globalization of Korean modem dance. The establishment of professional modern dance groups will be the key to the development and change of Korean modern dance fields.
