수묵에 의한 공간적 변이에 관한 연구

Abstract

예술가 본연의 임무를 끊임없는 실험과 자기변화를 통하여 자기예술의 수준을 보다 승화된 경지에 도달케 하는 것이라 한다면, 하나의 예술행위는 자기실현의 과정을 통한 보다 심오하고 성숙된 세계로의 접근과 완성을 궁극적인 목표로 하는 영원히 남을 미완성의 숙제라 할 수 있을 것이다. 따라서 창작을 전제로 한 예술가들이 한가지 패턴에만 안주해 버리는 것은 무의미한 것이며, 오직 창조적 행위만이 예술가로서의 존재 이유나 가능성을 대변해 준다고 할 수 있다. 바로 이 때문에 예술가들은 자신이 속해 있는 일상 속에서 끊임없는 관찰과 분석, 고뇌를 거듭하는가 하면, 한편으로는 대상을 관조적으로 바라보기 위해 부단히 노력하는 것이다. 이와 같은 맥락에서 본 연구는 창작활동의 일차적인 문제점인 “무엇을 어떻게 그릴 것인가?”라는 물음에서 출발하였으며, 현대 사회에서 현대인들이 느끼는 감정을 주변환경에 대한 감정이입을 통해 여과없이 보여 주고자 하였다. 본 연구의 단계는 크게 3단계로 나눌 수 있는데, 1단계는 주변환경에 대한 심상을 회화적으로 표출해 내기 위해 자연환경에 대한 전통적 해석과 구체적 심상을 만들어내는 정신과정에 대한 고찰이며, 2단계는 본인이 속해 있는 ‘도시환경’을 ‘자연물’과 ‘인공물’로 대별(大別)한 후, ‘구름’과 ‘콘크리트 구조물’이라는 구체적 매개체를 추출해 내어 이를 주관적으로 재해석 하는 것이며, 마지막 3단계에서는 대상의 외적 요소인 구성적인 측면과 내적 심상에 의한 자율적 측면의 조화를 이루기 위한 단서를 추상표현주의에서 찾고자 한다. 표현기법 면에서는 현대를 살아가고 있는 우리 자신의 모습들을 반영한다는 큰 주제는 같으나, 대상에 따라 기법을 달리함으로써 수묵실험의 가능성을 실험하는 데에 중점을 두었다. 즉 큰 여백(大空)과 작은 여백(小空), 느슨함(疏)과 빽빽함(密)의 정도에 따라 두 가지 방향으로 진행하였는데, 이때의 조형형식은 수묵의 속성을 이용한 ‘우연성’과 ‘콜라주’, ‘마아블링’과 ‘선’을 혼용하는 방식으로 설정하였다. 다시 말해 먹의 번짐을 통한 우연적이고 서정적인 화면효과와 함께 농담에 의한 깊이감을 발생시켰으며, 모든 형태들은 일종의 착시효과를 이용하여 평면에 공간감을 부여하는 방향으로 처리하였으며 인위적인 중첩에 의한 마티에르는 지양하였다. 결론적으로 본 연구의 대상이 되는 작품들은 일상속의 대상들에 대한 순간적 심상을 화폭이라고 하는 축소된 공간속에 농축시키고자 하였으며, 동시에 수묵의 재료적 특성에 대한 다양한 실험적 시도를 목적으로 전개되었다.;If an artist's mission is to enhance his or her artistic ability to a higher level through incessant experiments and self-development, artistic performance is an unsolvable problem, the ultimate objective is access and understanding to a more in-depth and mature world through the process of self-realization. Therefore, the artist who has an fixed expressive pattern cannot accomplish his or her artistic mission, only through the creative and various expressive pattern, artist can exist and growth as an real artist. This is the reason why the artist try to inspect, analyze and agonize over minute details and at the same time observe objectively. In this stream, this study stems from an important and basic question in creative activity: "What and how should I paint?" The author try to express the feelings of a contemporary society through the use of an environmental element. This study can be divided into three stages: the first stage is an investigation of the mental process that realizes the traditional solution and creates a detail mental image of the natural environment. The second stage is to analyze "the urban environment" subjectively and divide the components into "natural part" and "artificial part" with corresponding "cloud" and "concrete structures" respectively. The third and final stage is to find clue in the metaphysicism that harmonizes the structural aspect, which is the exterior element of an object, with the inherent aspect, which originates from an interior mental image. In this study, the main theme of expressive method is to reflect the contemporary person's feelings, and experiment with the various uses of India Ink to determine its adequacy for different subjects. The experiment has been carried out in two ways. The first is in accordance with the varying scale of blank space. The second is in accordance with varying degree of India Ink. In implementing the two methods, the author has experimented with the expressive method by mixing the elements, "casuality" and "collage", "marbling" and "lines'' that are subject to the attributes of India Ink. Specifically, certain depth was realized by a contrast of light and shade accompanied by the unexpected and delineative canvas effect that occurs with the spread and penetration of India Ink. As well, spatial quality is achieved on the plane through the effect of optical illusion, while overlapped matieres are excluded. The works that were the subject of this study attempted to place temporary mental images of the subjects in our contemporary existence into a limited space. At the same time, this study was carried out to experiment with the various material characteristics of India Ink.
