'도구'(tool) 이미지와 평면으로부터 확장된 공간 표현

Abstract

본 논문은 본인의 작품과 관련하여 작업과정에서 사용되는 도구를 주제로 연구하였다. 간단한 인공물인 망치에서도 알 수 있듯이, 이 세계에 존재하는 물건(인공물)의 종류와 그 다양성은 이루 헤아릴 수 없이 많다. 바살라는 인간이 새로운 물건을 만드는 이유는 인간 스스로 그런 특별한 방식으로 삶을 정의하고 추구하기를 선택하였기 때문이라고 한다. 따라서 인공물은 모든 시대를 걸쳐 숱한 사람들이 존재를 규정하고 추구하는 다양한 방법의 물질적 현시이며, 인공물의 역사는 창조정신의 풍부함과 지상에서 사람들이 살아가기 위해서 선택한 여러 가지 방법에 대한 증거이다. 이런 시각에서 볼 때, 인공물의 다양성은 인간의 존재를 가장 고차원적으로 표현하는 한 가지 방법이다. 도구는 인간이 생존하면서 처음 창조된 것으로 모든 인공물의 시초에 해당하며, 도구로부터 인공물의 역사는 시작되었다. 도구와 인간은 평행적인 역사를 가지며, 도구를 통해 인간의 역사를 엿볼 수 있다. 이를 근거로 본인은 작업 과정에서 사용되는 도구를 '나'의 존재와 관련시켜 접근하였다. 본인 작품에서의 도구도 '나'와의 끊임없는 관계를 가지며. '나'의 존재를 표현하고자 하는 한 방법이기 때문에, 본인은 본인의 작업도구를 통해 '나'의 존재를 확인하였다. 본인의 작업은 평면판화에서 확장된 개념의 실험판화를 시도하고자 하는 의도에서 이루어졌다. 도구 이미지 모양대로 뚫린 판을 겹침으로서 실제의 공간을 표현하였고, 재료에 있어서도 전통 재료인 종이를 탈피하여 얇은 알루미늄판 등의 금속재료를 사용하였다. 뚫린 공간은 평면으로부터 확장된 3차원의 공간으로서 본인의 작업의 흔적을 담고 있으며 실제로 촉각적, 시각적 감지가 가능한 공간이다. 본인 작품에 나타나는 평면으로부터 확장된 3차원의 공간은 도구 이미지를 보다 자유롭고 다양하게 표현하는 데 있어서 중요한 역할을 하고 있다. 마지막으로 본 논문에서는 본인의 작품을 각각 제시, 분석하고 있으며, 이것은 이제까지의 작업에 있어서 그 내용과 방법적인 면을 검토함과 더불어 앞으로의 발전방향을 찾고자 하는 데 의의를 둔다.;This study discusses tools being used in making artistic works in relation with the author's works. As we can see in hammer as a simple artifact, the sort and diversity of things(artifacts) that exist in this world are uncountable. George Basalla says that the reason man makes new things is that they chose to define and pursuit his living in that special form. So, the artifact is the physical realization of the form in which man pursues and prescribes his existence and the history of artifact is the evidence of the richness of man's creative spirits and the method which man chose for survival in this world. In this point of view, diversity of the artifacts is the method in which man can represent his existence nobly. Tools, created by man for the first time, is the beginning of all artifacts and the history of artifacts originated in tools. Both tools and human bing have a history paralleled with each other, and we can see the history of human being in tools. Based on this theory, the author approached tools being used in making artistic works in relation with 'my' existence. The author can confirm 'my' existence through artistic tools because tools in author's works have a constant relationship with 'me', are the way of expression of 'my' existence. The author's working was carried out for the attempt to making experimental prints extended from plane prints. The author expressed the real space by ,putting one over mother plane print perforated by image of tools and, sloughing off the paper as the conventional stuff, used metal stuffs We a thin aluminum plate. The space which made by perforating on image of tools extended from two dimensional space to three dimensional space, contained the traces of author's working and is the real space that one can see and touch really. The space that extended from plane to three dimensional space in author's works plays an important role in more free and variable expression of images of tool. Finally, the author presented and analyzed each author's work in this study for the examination of contents and method in author's working hitherto and pursuit of direction for development as well.
