장식적(裝飾的) 표현을 통한 일상의 이미지

Abstract

미술사적으로 볼 때 미술은 크게 구상과 추상이라는 두 개의 축을 통해 복잡하고 다양하게 전개되어 왔다. 그러나 지금은 이러한 구분 조차도 모호해진 상황에서 수많은 이념들이 난무하고, 본질적으로 판이하게 다른 문화들이 서로 결합되면서 미술에 있어 대대적인 영역간의 수렴 현상이 발생되었다. 또 한편으로는 전통으로의 복귀라는 복고주의 경향이 만연하게 되었다. 이러한 다원화 현상은 현실 세계에 대한 위기 의식과 불확실한 미래에 대한 좌절감의 상징으로 1980년대 이후 더욱 두드러지게 나타난다. 필자는 이러한 사회문화 현상이 현대미술에 어떻게 반영되었으며, 그것이 회화에 있어서 어떠한 형식으로 표현되었는지를 '새로운 형상으로의 복귀'라는 측면에서 살펴보고, 장식적인 표현 요소들이 어떻게 회화적 세계를 여는 매개체로 활용되는지를 본 논문을 통해서 조명하고자 하였다. 모더니즘의 지나친 형식주의는 우리에게 텅 빈 캔버스의 공허감만을 남겨 주었다. 이 공허감을 벗어나기 위해 많은 시도가 이루어졌고, 그러한 시도 중의 하나로 1950년대 이후부터 서서히 그 모습을 다시 드러낸 형상의 회화는 사회적 현실에 대한 철저한 인식과 비판의 소산으로서 현재 우리 앞에 다가오고 있다. 새롭게 부활된 형상은 과거의 사실적인 묘사와는 달리 형태에 대한 시각적 경험의 직접적인 묘사가 아닌 감성과 직관에 의해 이해되는 은유적 메시지를 통해 그림 외적 세계, 즉 사회문화 전반에 관한 모든 상황을 포괄적으로 수용한다는 점에서 과거의 구상과는 다른 것이다. 필자는 이러한 시대의 변화 속에서 일상적인 평범함 속에 숨겨져 있는 의외성을 발견하고, 이미 지나간 기억 속에 묻힌 과거를 재구성함으로써 보다 진실된 개인의 모습을 그리게 되었다. 또한 본 논문을 통해 필자는 장식적 표현을 이용한 일상의 이미지들이 얼마나 개인의 참 모습을 은유적으로 표출해낼 수 있는지를 확인해 보려 한다.;In terms of art history, art has been developed through the two axises, the figuration and the abstract, with variety and complexity, However, in the situation this kind of distinction became vague, huge converge in art appeared with a lot of rampant concepts combining totally different cultures. Also, on the other hand returning to tradition called restoration became prevalent. This pluralistic phenomenon has been notable since the 1980s as a symbol of the crisis in the present world and the uncertain future. I try to examine how the social phenomenon is reflected in the contemporary art and by what form of the painting it is expressed in the aspect of 'return to a new image'. And through this thesis, I tried to show how the decorative factors are used as the medium in fine arts. The excessive formalism of modernism gave us a sense of emptiness with an empty canvas. Many attempts have been made to escape this sense of vanity. As one of these attempts, the image painting which has appeared since 1950s exists in the present as the result of the criticism of the social reality. Newly revived image is different from figuration of the past in that it involves every situation related to the society and culture through metaphorical message understood not by direct description of visual experience but by emotion and instinct. Some unexpected factors hidden in daily monotony and I triced to portray my true self better by recomposing the memories of the past. Through this thesis, I tried to show how well the decorative factors in daily images can portray one's true self metaphorically.
