유기적인 망(網)의 구조로 본 자연 이미지

Abstract

Modern society of the 20th C. is experiencing rapid changes of its own and in corresponding with these changes modern art also has changed repeatedly in its logic, tendency and sense of crisis. In particular, to overcome the formalistic modernism, artistis have destruct the classification of genre or have attempted various anti-formalistic experiments to resist rational, reasonable works. Post modern art-the main stream of the art at the present point-transcends the division of matter and form to show that various modes of art can coexist at, the same time. Therefore, artists have come to explore many social, cultural problems around them-such as inner world of human being, racism, environmental crises and feminism, etc.-from diversified viewpoints through various media and methods. Despite scientific development brought prosperity and convenience, mass-production and materialism has given man sense of isolation and even is threatening our ecosystem through destruction of natural environment. So in the present postmodern circumstances of restorational tendency, new outlook on nature can be explored as the most acute exit to restore humanity. Highly complicated, even dry and cut modern civilization has been established by the mechanical view of the world of rationalism to dominate nature. On the contrary, restoring nature and remembering harmony with it can be an alternative to rehabilitate the absence of humanity and lost of self. The author of this study focused all of her concern on nature as a dynamic organism in which every things and events continuously cycle connected with each other and tried to explore the meaning of human being's existence as a part of this organic system of nature's network. Therefore, among artists directly dealing with the conditions of times and problems of society, those belongs to The Earth Art and Process Art are discussed and various theories seeing nature as an organic structure are presented in this study to deepen the author's world of art. As a work thesis, this study divides the substantial aspect and methodological aspect. In the substantial aspect, the organic network structure of nature, earth as a maternal image and expressions by symbolization are commented on while, in the methodological aspect, organic integration of materials and three-dimensional space implying relief effects and characteristics of time are discussed. And finally, by actually making works and analyzing them, the author has had an opportunity of reflecting her works and exploring desirable working directions for the future.;20세기 현대사회는 급격한 시대적 변화를 겪고 있으며 이에 발 맞춰 현대미술 또한 많은 논리와 사조, 위기감으로 계속 변화를 거듭해 왔다. 특히 최근(80년대 이후)에 미술가들은 형식주의 모더니즘을 극복하기 위해 개별장르의 구분을 파기하거나 이성적 합리적 작업에 대항하는 반 형식주의적 시도를 하고 있다. 따라서 자기 지시적이며 순수한 미술은 더 이상 사회 환경 및 시각의 역사와 무관한 것이 아니며 예술가는 자기 고유의 창조적 결정을 내리는 행위 속에서 이러한 요소들을 흡수하고 결합하게 되었다. 포스트미니멀리스트라고 불리우는 반(反)미니멀리스트들은 정보와 은유, 상징, 그리고 의미 있는 이미지를 전달하는 수단으로 대상을 추구하였으며 개념 미술과 더불어 과정 미술을 등장 시켰다. 특히 이들중 일부는 작품을 자연에 복속 시키려 하였는데 그것은 숭고하고 도피 적인 모더니즘에 대한 반기였으며 자연의 체계와 환경에 대한 새로운 인식의 표명 이였다. 이러한 다원화되고 환원적인 현 상황에서 본인은 나름대로의 관심을 모든 사물과 사건들이 서로 연관되어 끊임없이 순환하는 역동적인 유기체로서의 자연에 두었다. 이는 이러한 체 계 속의 일부로서 인간의 존재와 의미를 되새겨 보고자 함이다. 본인은 자연을 유기적인 망(網)적 구조로 인식하고 개방적이고 다각적인 조형적 시도를 통해 이를 표현하고자 하였다. 고도로 복잡해지고 건조하기까지 한 현대 문명이 자연을 지배하고자 했던 합리적 이성의 기계론적 세계관에 의한 것이었다면 자연을 이해하고 자연과의 균형 회복을 상기하는 것은 인간성 부재와 자아상실의 현 상황을 회복 할 수 있는 대안으로 연결된다. 이에 본인은 자연과의 상호 관계 속에서 작품을 끌어들인 대지미술, 그리고 자연의 체계 속에서 재료들의 가변성을 추구하였던 과정미술을 제시하여 작품 분석에 적용하고자 한다. 본 논문은 제작 논문으로서 내용적 측면과 방법적 측면으로 나뉘어져있다. 내용적 측면에서 는 인간과 자연의 유기적인 망적 구조, 모성적 의미로서의 땅 그리고 상징에 의한 표현에 관해 언급하였으며 방법적 측면에서는 재료의 유기적 통합, 부조적 효과와 시간성을 함축한 삼차원의 공간에 대해 살펴보았다. 마지막으로 본인 작품을 제시 분석해 봄으로써 작품에 대한 반성과 앞으로의 작업 방향을 모색해 보고자한다.
