Abstract
The reason for choosing a part of nature as my motif is to portray life-nature is always alive - and the infinite ways in which human beings can nature to express their artistic conscience. It enables a person to express their art work in a milliard different ways. With natural objects an artist can transforms and project aesthetic qualities using one's imaginations. As a result the work created has its own instinct characteristics because the artist has included the artist's imaginations as well as the artist's experiences in life. I have chosen to express my work through insect. Insect have been apart of nature long before human beings came into existence. 1 have concentrated in our conscience to be alive and energetically living. In order to express these feelings, I enlarged, simplified and repeated specific images and forms of insects. I designed my work using these methods. Insects have very diverse forms. Their forms and structures are very intricate and complex. They are formed both with straight and curved lines, giving the artist an interesting combination of forms and lines to develope and portray one's ideas. In my thesis, f have defined the structure of insects and explained the kinetic qualities of them. 1 have also concentrated on the biological as well as the organic aspects of insects to understand the many forms and lines found in them. Also I have experimented in putting emphasis, contrasting and including movement into the fundamental forms and images of insects. To aid my work I have looked at artists who have also used insects as their theme for doing their work. This was also to expand my research materials and also to help myself bring across into my work the feel I want to include in my work. For making my work I have used the coiling methods, slab-building and slip-casting. I used celadon clay, mixed body clay and porcelain clay. For glazing, in order to create a natural feel to show insects, I used a being glaze, a copper glaze and a white-matt body clay and porcelain clay. The work was fired in an oil kiln. The first firing was taken up to 900℃ and excluding wort 6 and 7 which were reduced. Work I was oxidized in an oil kiln to 1250℃. Works 2, 3, 5 and 8 were glazed with a low-firing glaze and were fired in a gas kiln to a temperature of 1000℃. I have tried to use insects to create a different form, composing with my examination of insects as well as including my experiences and my emotions in them. By altering, transforming simplifying and experimenting with shapes and forms, I have come to understand form and structure more than I had begun with. It was also important for myself to show to the world that there so many ways in which we can work with nature, and we can use its aesthetics to create. Especially in a world where human beings are too busy destructing and disturbing nature. For myself it was important to rediscover the beauty of nature and I hope that human beings will discover it again and work with it rather than destroy it.
