한국신흥종교의 여성관 소고

Abstract

본 연구는 한국의 신흥종교 가운데에서도 천도교, 증산교, 원불교를 중심으로하여 그들의 교리체계와 인간관 및 여성관을 고찰해 본 것이다. 본 연구에서는 첫째, 한국 신흥종교의 발생사적 성격과 다양한 계보를 통해 신흥종교의 공통적 특성을 살펴보았고 둘째, 천도교·증산교·원불교의 인간관에 있어서 바탕이 되는 교리와 주요 인존사상의 특성을 고찰하였으며 세째, 인간관에 있어서 여성론을 함께 고찰함으로써 신흥종교에서의 여성에 대한 진보적 사고의 긍정적인 측면과, 한국교회에서의 여성에 대한 차별대우의 문제점을 비교하여 보았다. 본 연구의 결과, 이들 신흥종교들이 인간의 존엄성을 중시한 태도와 차별의식의 타파, 사회참여의식에 있어서의 남녀평등 및 인간의 주체적인 생활을 강조한 점은 이들 종교들이 발생하기 시작하던 시기에 있어서 무척 진보적이며 발전된 체제이였음을 알 수 있었다. 그러나, 현대에 오면서 이와같은 사상들은 조금씩 퇴보되기도 하였고 많은 모순점을 드러내기도 한다. 한 예로 여성교역자를 양성하기도 하지만 제도적 후원이 미약하고, 교역자들간의 서열에 있어서 보이지 않는 차별이 있다. 또한, 세분화된 교파간의 갈등과 교주에 대한 지나친 신격화는 그들이 주장하는 인간관과는 크게 모순됨을 드러내고 있다. 그러나, 여성이 종교활동에 참여하는 기회를 넓혀주고, 교단의 조직제도 역시 성차별 없는 체계를 갖추고 있는 점은 한국교회내의 실정과 비교해 볼때에 많은 교단에서 행해지고 있는 여목사제도나 여성안수에 대한 여성차별의식에 긍정적인 면을 많이 시사하고 있다. 한국교회는 가부장적인 기독교 전통에서 속히 탈피하여 "참 인간성", "여성의 균등한 인격됨", "새인간성"을 위해 하나님의 형상(Imago Dei)을 그리스도 안에서 찾아야한다. 하나님의 형상대로 지음받은 인간은 그것이 남성이든 여성이든 타인의 의사를 존중하며 듣고, 수용하고, 관련성을 위한 능력을 개발해야 한다. 인류의 모든 차별과 억압을 근절시키고 모든 인간이 인간화를 위해 노력하는 인간화의 과정은 그리스도안에서 여성과 남성, 피압제자와 압제자가 하나님의 해방의 목적을 위해 자유하며 함께 노력하는 것이다. 그러므로, 인간화 과정에 있어서 신흥종교의 인간존엄주의는 오늘의 한국교회가 긍정적인 시각을 가지고 수용하여, 관료화·체제유지화를 벗어난 교단의 의식적인 실천의지와 함께 적극적으로 확대 시킴으로서 시대의 변화에 따른 새로운 의식적인 노력을 추진해야 한다고 본다.;This study is to examine Korean new religions' view on human being and women, centering on Cheondoism, Jeungsankyo, and Wonbulkyo, the three biggest Korean religions with fairly large number of believers. This study started with its observations on historical and social background which created those religions and then moved to researches on common characteristics they share with eath other, mainly through comparing genealogy of their leaders. It examined those religions' basic doctrines and their 'respect-all-mankind philosophy'. It also analized how the new religions value women and their progressive attitude toward women, while comparing them with the discriminiation being practiced in Korean churches. This study brought us to the conclusion that 'the respect all mankind philosophy' and the abolition of class and sex distinctions by Cheondoism provided Korean people the philosophical basis and ideas that all mankind are independent and deserve to pursuit their happiness in the ways they wish. The Jeungsankyo with 'men and women are equal philosophy' treated women as a member of society with equal rights. The Wonbulkyo enabled the enhanced status of women, and provided them with philosophical background for the new image of women, self-assured and independent. The studies above suggest that there are much to be learn by Korean churches from the new religions in their 'respect all mankind' and the 'women and men are equal' philosophies.
