초방염법을 이용한 의상디자인 연구

Abstract

The Purpose of this study is to seek for the possibility of formative production of modern costumes by introducing wax- resistdyeing method into dyeing process that is closely related to them. For this purpose, the student examined, as a theoretical background, the relations between costumes and arts, and those between costumes and dyeing. On the basis of such consideration, the student took white silk cloth as a canvas and represented (expressed) the formative image on it by the method of resistdyeing in order to achieve and natural harmony between the softness of silk and the formative characteristics of human body. Throughout the human history, clothing has had indispensible relations with human beings as an absolute medium in the formation of self-concept. It has been transformed and developed with the progress of history, reflecting the social and cultural characteristics of each period. From ancient times, the human activities in beautifying and decorating human beings through costumes have been important outlets of artistic impulses and means for self-expression, as well as great sources of sensuous satisfaction. Making of these costumes has certain coherence with formative arts that can be accounted for, and experienced through formative elements such as sides, lines, dots, colors and touch of quality. In modern industrial society, mass production and consumption has brought about the uniformity of clothes. On the contrary, designers have been making constant efforts and attempts to express their inner selves through costumes, and to pursue their creative formativeness. Following this trend, but in a characteristic attempt, the student made 10 sample works, designing and dyeing each of them through manual processes respectively. The outcome of the analyses of the works produced in this study can be summarized as follows; 1. Through the theoretical investigation into the modern costumes, the student gets to understand that various efforts and attempts are being made in field of modern costume design to express the self in various ways, and that this trend is coherent with formative arts. 2. The student finds that the beautiful images stylized by borrowing from flowers were appropriate materials that could be used in order to seek after the harmony with the modern costume patterns. 3. Works of costume made through dyeing and designing each set respectively as a unit show that there is another possible direction of development even in this era of prevalent ready-made clothes.;인간은 기본적으로 장식욕구를 지니고 있으며, 의상을 통하여 아름답게 장식하는 인간의 행위는 시각적 만족의 출처일 뿐 아니라, 자기표현을 위한 중요한 수단이 되어왔다. 의상에 있어서 장식의 역할은 여러 형태로 인간의 가치를 나타내고 사회 문화적 의미를 내포하고 있다. 사회 문화적 의미를 내포하고 있는 장식중 문양의 사용은 대표적이며, 이는 조형의 필연적 요소이며 심미적 요소로써 상징화되어 왔다. 이러한 문양의 사용은 면, 선, 점, 색, 질감등에 의해 설명되고 지각되고 경험되는 조형예술과 맥락을 같이 하고 있다. 이와같은 인간의 기본적인 장식욕구에 의하여 의상에 있어서 독창성, 새로운 가능성에 대한 끊임없는 새로운 시도를 하였으며 이러한 추세에 따라 1960년대 후반부터 미술의상운동(Art to wear Movement)이 일어났다. 많은 작가들이 의상을 통해 내재적 자아표현을 추구하고 독창적 조형성을 표현하고자 하는 끊임없는 노력을 하고 있다. 본 연구도 이러한 맥락에서의 새로운 시도이자 모험이며 새로운 가능성을 위한 탐색 작업이라 할 수 있다. 따라서 본 연구자는 의상에 있어 밀접한 관계가 있는 염색 기법중 초방염법을 도입하여 미술의상의 조형적 제작 가능성을 모색하고자 하는데 목적을 두었다. 또한 이론적 배경으로 의상과 장식, 문양, 염색 등의 관계를 고찰하고, 이를 기초로 하여 양식화된 모란모양을 중심으로 목련, 백합, 연꽃 등의 이미지를 의상 위에 자유로운 구성을 하였다. 이를 초방염법을 이용하여 10점의 의상을 제작한 결과를 요약하며 다음과 같다. 첫째, 의상을 통하여 아름답게 장식하려는 인간의 행위는 시각적 만족을 충족시킴과 동시에 자기표현을 위한 중요한 수단이며, 이를 끊임없는 새로운 시도로써 추구할때 새로운 미술 분야의 영역을 가질 수 있음을 파악하였다. 둘째, 다양한 염색표현 기법중 초방염법을 사용하여 새로운 가능성을 다각적인 접근방법으로 시도하였으며, 이러한 기법으로 제작된 의상은 독창적이며 미적 가치를 지닌 동시에 조형예술과 맥락을 같이하고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 세째, 전통문양, 민화 등에서 나타나는 모란을 중심으로 한 문양을 본 연구자 나름대로 단순화, 양식화하여 각 의상에 크기, 색상등에 있어 자유로운 구성을 하였다. 이러한 시도는 본 연구자의 주관적 주체를 나타내고 개인적 감성을 표현함에 있어 적절한 소재이었다. 네째, 수공예적 기법을 사용하여, 의상을 한벌 단위로 작품 개념 설정부터 디자인, 염색, 제작 완성하였다. 이같이 일품생산적으로 제작된 작품은 대량생산에만 의존하고 있는 오늘날의 패션계에 또다른 접근방법을 제시하고자 하였다.
