Benjamin Britten 의 String Quartet No.1 연구

Abstract

Benjamin Britten (1913~1976) is considered one of the most outstanding English composers whose creative activities covered the period around the Second World War. His genius is experimented in various ways, and the members of his works reach to 110 including solos, chamber musics, symphonies and operas. He had much interest in the folk songs and the baroque music of England, especially, Purcell's songs. He had preference for the songs in the form of song cycles or variations which could be divided into short parts. He achieved the consummation in technique, and developed the sensibility for melody. In expressing harmony, tone color and rhythms, he sharpened his sense for music. Instead of the heavily-sounded discords, he employed the usual constitution in creating melody. The contrast between chords and tone colors is characteristic element which distinguishes his works from those of other composers. His music consist of major and minor scales, cyclic principles, pentatonic scales and the whole tone scales and so on. Most pieces of his are composed on the basis of norma1 constitutions as well as irregular rhythms, and variable changing meters. In this study, String Quartet No. 1, Op. 25, one of the pieces that covered his earlier period, has been analyzed. This composition successfully represents the characteristics of his musics' mentioned above. ; It is much counterpointed, and made upon a classical basis in the aspect of constitution or form. As a result, this work turned out to be a piece of sincerity with refined form which only Britten could create.;Benjamin Britten (1913~1976)은 세계 제 2차 대전을 전후하여 활동한 영국의 대표적인 작곡가이다. 그의 작품은 독주, 실내악, 교향악, 오페라 등 다양하며 110여 곡에 이른다. 그는 영국 민요와 바로크 시대의 음악, 특히 Purcell의 곡에 관심을 가졌고 song cycle이나 변주곡 형식같은 짧은 부분으로 나누어진 형태의 곡을 선호했다. 기법에 숙달하고 선율에도 타고난 감성을 지니고 있으며 화성, 음색, 리듬 등의 표현은 예리한 감각을 가졌다. 불협 화음은 강하게 나오지 않고 그의 선율은 대체로 조성 적이며 화음과 음색의 대조가 그의 작품을 개성적인 것으로 만들고 있다. 그의 음악은 장·단 음계, 교회 선법, 5음 음계, 온 음계 등으로 이루어지며 불규칙 리듬, 다양한 박자 변화를 가지고, 대부분의 곡은 조성을 가진다. 본 논문에서는 그의 초기 작품인 String Quartet No. 1, Op. 25를 분석했다. 이 곡은 위에서 언급한 그의 특징을 잘 나타내는 곡이며 특히 대위적인 기법을 많이 사용하고 조성이나 형식의 면에서 고전적인 바탕 위에 이 곡이 이루어 졌음을 알 수 있다. 그 결과 Britten만이 갖는 세련된 형태의 충실한 곡이 되었다.
