미국, 한국 지구과학 교과서 내용분석 및 비교

Abstract

교육은 사회적 요구와 그 시대의 교육사조에 따라서 변화한다. 1980년대로 오면서 과학교육은 단순한 학문적 추구에서 과학을 일상생활에 이용하고, 과학과 관련된 사회문제를 이해하고, 학생들의 직업선택에 도움을 줄 수 있는 다양한 목적으로 변화하게 되었다. 이러한 과학교육의 목적 변화가 Project Synthesis의 4영역 과학교육 목적군(goal cluster)에 잘 나타나 있다. 본 연구에서는 4영역 목적군을 분석틀로 한국과 미국의 각 2종의 지구과학 교과서내용을 paragraphes, illustrations, activities, miscellaneous의 4단위로 분류하여 분석하고 각 목적군이 나타내는 비율을 조사한다. 그리고 미국과 한국의 과학교육의 시각을 비교하여 현행 지구과학 교육과정의 개선을 위한 방향모색을 시도 하였다. 본 연구 결과에 의하면 1. 미국의 지구과학 교과서는 Academic Preparation에 80%이상의 비율로 그 내용이 차지하고 있고, 그 외의 목적군은 비교적 낮은 비율을 보인다. 2. 한국의 지구과학 교과서는 Academic Preparation이 85%이상의 비율을 나타내고 있고, 나머지가 Personal Needs, Societal Issues을 나타낸다. 3. 미국,한국 모두 Academic Preparation이 차지하는 비율이 높으나, 특히 한국의 경우는 아직도 과학교육의 목표가 학문적 추구에만 국한되어 있다는 인상이 짙다. 무엇보다도 Career Education/Awareness에대한 차이가 두드러지게 나타난다. 미국은 관련 직업에 대한 자세하고 정확한 정보제공에 노력하고 있지만 한국은 전혀 고려하고 있지 못하다. 한국의 지구과학 교육은 교육목적과 그 내용상에 많은 차이를 나타내고 있다고 할 수 있다. 따라서 교육과정에 제시되어있는 목표를 수행하기 위해서는 교과서 내용이 충실하게 보충되어야 한다.;The purpose of this study is to compare American Earth Science text books with Korean and is to attempt to search for directions to improve curriculum of Earth Science in Korea based on this comparison. It used four goal clusters of Project Synthesis as frameworks to compare with textbooks. And, four Earth Science textbooks are selected for analysis : two are American ones and two Koreans. The conclusions of this study are as follows : 1. American Earth Science textbooks focus on Academic Prepration at the rate of over 80%. And, the rest of consist of Personal Needs, Societal Issues. and Career Education/Awareness. 2. Korean Earth Science textbooks focus on Academic Preparation at the rate of over 85%. And, the rest consist of Personal Needs and Societal Issues. 3. The rate of Academic Preparation in both American and Korean Earth Science textbooks is high. Especially, major goal of science education in Korea is limited to the goal of Academic Preparation. Above all, the difference between American and Korean science education is revealed in Career Education/Awareness. America make efforts to provide students with informations about related careers. But Career Education/Awareness is not considered at all in Korean science education. Korean Earth Science education have many differences between educational goal and educational content. So, the content of textbook must be made up for carrying out goals in curriculum.
