L. V. Beethoven의 피아노 변주곡에 관한 연구

Abstract

단순한 주제를 가지고 다양한 방법으로 변화시켜 예술적으로 창작해 나아가는 변주는 어느종류의 음악에서나 찾아볼 수 있는 중요한 작곡기법이다. 변주곡은 작곡가의 창의성에 도전하여 그로 하여금 다양성 속에 고도의 통일성을 이룩하게 만들었으며, Sonata의 한 악장으로 혹은 독립변주곡으로써 과거 300여년 동안 발전을 거듭해 왔다. Beethoven에게 있어 변주곡 형식은 구체적인 음악적 표현수단이 되었으며, 기악작품 속에 한 악장으로서는 물론 piano를 위한 독립곡으로 20개의 변주곡을 썼다. 변주곡은 주제의 취급과 음악적 내용에 따라 <음형변준>와 <성격변주>로 나눠어진다. 변주곡 형식이 널리 쓰여졌던 Baroque시대 이래로 고전파의 변주곡은 주로 음형변주의 수법으로 처리되었다. 그러나 Beethoven의 중기 변주곡에서부터는 주제와 변주에 새로운 개념을 가져다 준 성격변주의 수법이 창출되었다. 이 중기 변주곡은 다양한 변주 테크닉의 종합적인 형태로 나타나게 되는 말기 작품들의 산실이었다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 Beethoven의 중기 변주곡 중 창작주제에 의한 변주곡 Op.34와 Op.76을 분석함으로써 일반적인 양식과 성격적인 특색인 무엇인지를 규명하여 성격변주로의 길을 살펴보았다. 이에 앞서 Beethoven의 기악작품 속의 변주곡과 piano 변주곡을 간단히 정리하였으며, OP.34와 Op.76의 분석은 주로 고정된 요소와 변화된 요소의 측면에서 변주기법을 검토하였다. 그 결과 Beethoven이 자신을 표현하려는 구체화 시대의 변주곡다운 창조적 독창성이 발견되었으며, 두곡에서 나타난 공통적인 요소는 다음과 같다. 1. 주제의 형식과 화성을 고정요소로 하였다. 2. 종곡에 긴 Cada를 붙여 규묘를 크게 확장시켰다. 3. 주선율을 상성부에 치우치게 하였다. 4. 주제는 각 변주 속에 포함되어지면서 매변주 마다 특징적인 Motive와 개별적인 개성을 보여 독립된 성격을 띠운다. 5. 변주곡 전체가 연결연주 되도록 구성하였다. Op.34에서는 각변주 마다 조성이 하행3도관계조로 변하였고, 속도와 박자도 바뀌어 성격변주의 특성을 시사하였으며, 다양한 리듬의 변화로 새로운 음형을 창조하였다. Op.76은 음형변주가 지배적이고 조성도 일관되어 있다. 주제의 지극히 단순한 선율구조와 화성을 가지고 경쾌하고 화려한 음악을 만들어 Beethoven의 천재적인 표현성을 입증하였다.;Variations, artistically created by various methods of changes with simple themes, are important composition methods which can be found in any sort of music. Variations are a challenge to the creativity of composers. It makes them accomplish intensive unity in variety, and has fascinated them either as one of the movements of a sonata, or as a solo variation form for 300 years. Variation forms became the means of concrete music presentation to Beethoven. He wrote 20 variations for piano solo as well as variations as a movement in instrumental music. Variations are divided into two kinds according to theme and music content: One is figural variation, the other is character variation. Since the Baroque age when the variation forms were widely used, the classical variation form was that of figural variations. Since Beethoven's middle years, however, the character variation form was created, giving a new concept to theme and variations. These middle years' variations were the lying-in room of his later years' works. Therefore, in this study, Op.34 and Op. 76 were analyzed according to the original themes, as their starting point, examining the general forms and features of variations which were revealed in his works of the middle years. Preceding this, a summary of variation technique in instrumental music is made, and an investigation of variation methods according to aspects of the elements of retention and variability is recorded. As the result, the materialization of the creative originality, by which Beethoven tried to present himself, was found. The following are common features which can be seen in these two works. 1. Fixed forms of theme and harmony, 2. An enlargement of scale by attaching a long coda to the finale, 3. The main melody usually given to the soprano part, 4. Themes presented with six variations, and characterised independently by a specially fixed motive and individual character which in each variation, 5. Use of the cyclic method of theme, structure by the whole work should be played. In Op.34, the tonality is changed by three intervals down relative keys, previewing the characteristics of the character variation, changing the tempo and the metre, creating the new figuration by various rhythmic changes. In Op.76, the figural variation is the controlling feature and the tonality is united. The magnificent and courteous effects were obtained through the simplest structure and harmony, proving Beethoven's inborn expressive ability.
