Abstract
The cantata was the most important form of vocal music of the Baroque period. It appeared shortly after 1600 as an offspring of the monodic style. Most Italian cantatas at this period are for a solo voice, but some were written for two or three voices. And the most usual accompanying instruments gradually increased from continue alone in the mid-l7th century to an orchestra, including obbligato instruments in the 18th. Through G. carissimi, Stradella and others, at its most typical, the Italian cantata consisted in the later 17th century, notably in A.Scarlatti's work, of a succession of contrasting sections - especially descriptive recitative and da capo aria. Up to the late 17th century the cantata was predominantly a secular form, but the church cantata, which included choral movements ranging from simple chorale harmonization to extended, complex structures, was a major feature of Lutheran music in early 18th century Germany. Through the Neumeister 'reform' of texts, Telemann, Franck, and others achieved ubiquitous German cantatas. J.S.Bach, through the artistic greatness and religious dignity of his music, sanctioned poetry in German texts as well as the contemporary Italian form. Cantatas, mainly secular, were also fairly widely cultivated elsewhere, especially secular, were also fairly widely cultivated elsewhere, especially in France and to a lesser extent in England. The typical form of English cantata was the cantata anthem, which is one kind of verse anthem for the service of the Anglican church. Both the secular and sacred cantata declined in importance after the middle of the 18th century. And now the term "cantata has been applied to a wide variety of works which generally have in common only that they are for chorus and orchestra.;칸타타는 바로크 시대인 17세기 이태리에서 발생한 성악곡이었다.
