Geste에 의한 構造的 空間 追求

Abstract

Wilhelm Woringer(1881~1965)는 그의 「추상과 감정이입」에서 外界現象에 의하여 일어나는 인간의 커다란 內的不安에서 생기는 예술의욕을 '추상충동'이라 했다. 이런 '추상충동'에 의거한 표현 형식은 1, 2차 세계대전의 혼란기를 거치면서 더욱 표면화되어 왔다. 제2차 세계대전 후 현대문명 속에 급격히 등장한 것은 경제적 궁핍과 대공황의 위기 속에서 살아남기위한 생존의 위기를 타개하는 일이었다. 이 위기가 철학과 思想界에 '실존주의'를 낳게한 것과 같이 미술사에 '추상표현주의' 또는 '앙포르멜(Informel)' 운동을 탄생시켰다. 그 다음에는 세계와 인간에 대한 새로운 의미의 탐구로서 보다 고차적 자기성찰이 나타남으로써 오늘날의 形而上學的 시야를 탄생시켰으며 현대미술에서는 hard-edge, minimalism, conceptualism의 감축적 성향이 드러났다. 이런 역사적 흐름 속에서 20C 이후 회화의 가장 커다란 혁신이라면 "再現的 illusionism의 붕괴"^(1)와 그에 따른 귀결로서 canvas는 평면이라는 기본적 인식이 더욱 명확히 되어졌다는 것이다. 이것은 예술의 시작으로서의 인식의 출발점이 되어지며, 그 위에 첨가되는 물질에 의해 물질을 넘어선 새로운 차원에서의 미학적 영역이 성취되어지게 된다. 현대미술의 이러한 상황 속에서 본인의 입장은 '행위'와 행위의 귀결로서 나타나는 '물질의 상호 만남'에 관심을 두고 geste에 의한 구조적이면서도 개방된 회화공간을 추구한다. canvas는 그 자체로서 하나의 평면적 물질이지마는 그 위에 얹여지는 안료라는 물질과의 만남을 통해 새로운 조형공간이 형성되어지게 되며 그러한 공간성은 의도된 또는 우연적 마띠에르(matie`re)에 의해 더욱 강화 되어진다. 한편 본인은 matie`re에 의해 응축되고 구조화된 공간을 또 하나의 수단으로 삼아 궁극적으로는 근원적인 힘, 즉 원천적 에네르기로서의 빛을, 계시적인 빛을 표현하고자 한다. 그럼으로써 物質性 對 精神性이라는 대립을 超克하고자 한다. 본 연구의 방법상 내용적인 면에서는 Rembrandt의 '정신적 빛'을 연구하여 본인의 정신성과 비교하고자 하며, 조형적인 면에 있어 서는 Pliage^(주1)라는 기법을 창안하여 회화를 엷은 한 장의 천으로 환원시킨 Simon Hantai를 연구하고자 한다. 방법적인 측면에서는 tache와 flungpaint(뿌리기)에 의해 우연성과 물감의 物性을 보여준 Sam Francis와 동양적 필치의 tache에 의해 그린 Pie`rre Soulages를 본인과 비교, 검토하여 앞으로의 더 나은 방향을 모색하고자 한다.;Wilhelm Woringer (1881-1965) regarded an art-impulse which proceeded from the inner anxiety toward the external world, as ‘abstract impulse’ in ‘the abstraction and empathy’. This expression form has come into the open more and more, through World War Ⅰ, Ⅱ. After World War Ⅱ, the survival crisis was appeared rapidly to live in the crisis of the great panic and economic destitution. This survival crisis gave a brith to ‘the abstract expressionism’ or ‘informal movement’ in art history, like it gave a birth to ‘existentialism’ in philosophy and the world of thought. And, the high self-reflection was appeared, as the research of the new meanings on human and the world. Also, it gave a birth to the reductive tendency of hard-edge and minimalism, conceptualism, in modern art. In this historical tendency, after the twentieth century, the most remarkable renovation of painting is the clear recognition that canvas is level. This results from the ‘collapse of re-appearnace illusionnism’. This fact is the starting point of knowledge as the begining of the art. And the region of asthetics as the new dimension is achieved. This is possible by the transcendence of material through material. In this situation in modern art, I persue the constructive and extensive painting space by geste, being concerned with inter meeting of material being resulted by act. Though canvas itself is a plane materal, the new plastic space is formed by meeting with the material of pigment. And such space is re-informed more and more, by the intentional and accidental material. Also I, by means of space which is concentrated construted by materal, intend to express the original power, namely, a light of fundamental energy ultimately. From these, the writer intends to get over the opposition of spirit to material. This study is based on Rembrant's 'spiritual light' in the contents-aspect, as the result I would like to compare him with my spirit. In the formative-aspect, it is based on Simon Hantai, which restored painting to a thin material by devising Pliage. In the method-aspect I compare the pictures of my own painting with Sam Francis's and Pierre Soulages's tache (Sam Francis showed the accidental and the material of pigment, by flung painting (Sprayong), and tache has the oriental style). From these, I intend to the improvement of the future.
