The present study was to investigate the developmental levels and characteristics of seriation in early childhood aged four to seven. It hoped that this study contribute to the selection of curriculum contents and teaching procedures which will facilitate development of the seriation abilities of the early childhood. The specific problems of this study are follows: 1. Is there any significant difference in Simple Seriation with ages, or levels ? 2. Is there any significant difference in Insert Seriation with ages, or levels? 3. Is there any significant difference in One - to - one Correspondence with ages, or levels? 4. Is there any significant difference between anticipation and seriation ? The subjects were kindergarteners and primary school children of four to seven years old from middle - class families in Seoul area. In four - age group, 17 male and 10 female were included. In five - age group, 16 male and 9 female were included. In Six - age group, 9 male and 1 female were included. The Children totalled 82. The tools were the Piaget's seriation test materials and Lavatelli's seriation test materials modified for the present study. The data were analyzed by Chi - square test and Percent-age. The results of the study were as followa: 1. There were a developmental progression with ages or levels in children's ability to construct Simple Seriation (4,5- age group in level 1, f - age group in Level Ⅱ, 7 - age group in level Ⅲ ) 2. There were a developmental progression with ages or levels in children's ability to construct Insert Seriation(4,5-age group in level 1, 6,7 - age group in level Ⅱ, no age group in level Ⅲ) 3. There were a developmental progression with ages, or levels in children's ability to construct One - to - one Correspondence. (4 - age group in level I, 5 - age group in level Ⅱ, level Ⅲ. 6 - age group in level Ⅱ, level Ⅲ. 7 - age group in level Ⅲ) 4. There was significant difference between anticipation and seriation.-
