한국 영화사에 있어서 영화음악의 위치

Abstract

본 논문에서는 1905년부터 2000년까지의 한국영화 100년사에 따른 영화음악의 변천 과정을 알아보고 체계적으로 분류, 분석해 보고자 하였다. 먼저 영화음악을 분류하기에 앞서 영화음악이 영화의 전개에 있어서 어떤 역할을 하는지 그 중요성과 위치를 파악하는 것이 유용했다. 영화음악은 첫째 시공간적 배경을 확인시키는 기능을 하고, 둘째 인물의 내부 심리, 상황의 숨겨진 의미를 창출하는 기능을 하고, 셋째 순수한 배경음악으로서의 기능을 한다. 넷째로 영화에 연속성을 부여하는 기능을 하며 다섯째로 영화의 감성적 토대를 구축하는 기능을 한다. 여섯째로 영화의 진행감에 도움을 주는 기능을 하고 마지막으로 인물의 상징으로서의 기능을 한다. 영화에 있어서 한국의 초기 영화음악의 역할은 드라마틱한 중요성을 가지지 않는 단순한 배경음악이었다. 1950년대에 이르러 영화에 의한 주제가들이 생겨나기 시작하여 대중음악으로 널리 보급되었다. 1960년대 음악적 경향은 삶의 모습이 담겨진 주제가가 많았으며 특히 영화 내용과 주제가를 연계시켜 주제가의 성격이 곧 이 당시의 음악적 스타일을 결정지었다. 1970년대에는 신파조적인 멜로드라마로 트로트풍의 가요가 영화주제가의 대부분을 차지하였다. 1980년대에는 외국영화의 수입으로 팝이 가미된 관현악곡의 추세를 보였고 전문적인 영화음악 작곡가들에 의해 작곡되기 시작하였다. 1990년대 이후 2000년 현재에 이르기까지 영화음악의 경향이 더욱 다양화되었는데 가요나 팝을 사용하던 이전의 경향 외에 낭만주의적 경향, 모더니즘 경향, 재즈 음악의 경향, 국악 사용의 경향이 있다. 본 연구를 하면서 영화와 음악은 공생관계에 있다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 다른 예술 중에서도 영화와 음악이 가장 밀접한, 가장 비슷한 표현영역과 방법을 갖고 있다는 것을 인식하고 이 논문을 바탕으로 하여 영화음악에 대한 더 깊은 연구와 이해가 따라야 할 것이다. ; Through this thesis, I tried to survey the transitional process of movie sounds for 100 years 1905 to 2000 of Korean film history, and to classify systematically and analyse them. Before classifying movie sounds, it was useful for me to grasp their importance and position involving what role they play in the development of movie. First, the movie sounds have the function of representing a temporal and spatial background. Second, they have the function of creating the psychology of character and the hidden meaning of situation. Third, they have the function of a sheer background music. Fourth, they have the function of giving continuity to movie. Fifth, they have the function of building the emotional base on movie. Sixth, they have the function of helping to feel the development of movie. Finally, they have the function of symbolizing characters. The film history of Korea lacks much in a sense of development and progress, but entering 1990s, remarkable progress was made due to large companies participation in film production and the government s support for film industry. The trend of film music has been also diversified by romanticism, modernism, jazz and Korean classical music besides the previous trend of using ballad or pop music. Seeing the case that ballad had been used, we came to know that movie and music keep a symbiotic relationship to each other whether movie used the existing ballad or the music was created for movie. A fine movie sound makes a successful movie, and on the contrary, an unknown music can be born anew into a popular one by a great movie. Recognizing that movie and music have the most similar sphere of expression and method, the closest relation to each other, the more profound study and comprehension on film music must be followed on the basis of this thesis.
