고린도전서에 나타난 바울의 적들 : 고린도교회의 공동식사(고전 11:17-34)를 중심으로

Abstract

고린도전서에 나타난 바울의 적들에 대한 논의는 19세기 말부터 활발히 진행되었다. 이 편지의 신학적 쟁점들을 가지고 그들이 누구인가에 대한 많은 주장들이 있었는데 그러한 시도들로 고린도교회의 역사적인 재구성은 가능하게 되었지만 아쉽게도 고린도전서에 나타난 공동식사 문제와 관련해서는 해결점을 찾지 못했다. 이와 달리 사회학적 연구는, 고린도교회의 갈등이 다양한 사회 계층 문제에서 비롯되었다는 전제 아래, 고린도전서에 나타난 바울의 적들과 공동식사에 나타난 바울의 적들을 같은 집단으로 보는 데 성공했다. 그들은 사회적 지위가 높은 부유한 자들이라는 것이다. 이는 타이센에 의해 주도되었다. 그러나 그의 연구는 부와 사회 계급을 동일시한다는 점에서 그리고 여성들에 대한 논의는 전혀 이루어지지 않았다는 점에서 아쉬움을 남긴다. 한편, 수사학적 접근을 통한 와이어의 연구는 공동식사를 비롯한 고린도전서에 나타난 바울의 적들이 여성 예언자들임을 확인시켜 주었다. 그들은 사회적 지위의 반전을 경험한 자들이라는 점이다. 그러나 그의 연구에도 아쉬움은 남는데 그것은 그들의 사회적 지위의 반전을 단순히 여성들의 개인적인 경험 차원에서만 설명하기 때문이다. 본 논문은 타이센과 와이어의 연구가 갖는 문제들에 집중하면서 고린도전서에 나타난 바울의 적들을 공동식사 문제와 관련하여 고찰하였다. 이를 위해 먼저 II장에서는 고린도전서에 나타난 바울의 적들에 대한 연구사를 개관하였다. 본 논문의 효과적인 연구를 위해 특히 타이센과 와이어의 연구에 집중하였다. 그 다음에는 주의 만찬 본문에 나타난 바울의 적들이 어떠한 식사관행을 행하고 있었는지 고찰하기 위해 III장에서 그리스-로마 세계의 식사관행에 관해 알아보았다. 이와 더불어 식사관행에 대한 고대인들의 이데올로기도 다루었다. 이는 고린도교인들의 식사관행 특히 여성들에 대한 바울의 견해를 이해하는 데 도움이 되기 때문이다. IV장에서는 그들의 식사관행에 관한 바울의 대응을 주의 만찬 전승문을 중심으로 살펴보았다. 마지막으로 V장에서는 그들이 누구이며 또 무엇을 주장하였는가에 대해 고찰하였다. 그들은 바로 부유한 자들 가운데 있는 자들로서 사회적 지위는 낮지만 공동체 내에서는 높은 지위에 있는 여성들임을 밝혔다. ; The Purpose of this thesis is to reconstruct Paul s opponents in First Corinthians especially in the communal meal(1 Cor 11:17-34). In fact the question of the identity of the opponents has been debated and discussed since the 19th centuries. Gerd Theissen s recent study contributed to the reconstruction of Paul s opponents in the communal meal. He concluded that they were the wealthy and upper classes in 1 Cor 11:17-34. Antoniette C. Wire reconstructed Paul s opponents by using the rhetorical criticism. She understood that many women were included among them. However, the writer thinks that Theissen and Wire missed one point respectively. Theissen overlooked that the social class was not equivalent to wealth. Wire did not mention any wealthy woman. Therefore focusing on their studies and their missing points, this thesis identifies paul s opponents as the wealthy women. Chapter One presents the purpose and method of this thesis. Chapter Two summarises the history of research about paul s opponents in first Corinthians. Especially this thesis depends on the aspect of wealth according to Theissen s study and the aspect of women according to Wire s study. Chapter Three presents that various groups held their communal meal according to similar patterns and rules regardless of the social or ethnic distinctiveness in the Greco-Roman Period. In addition, it presents that there were the negative ideology on the women who participated in the communal meal. This ideology had a great influence on Paul that prevented the Corinthian women from participating in the communal meal. In Chapter four, Paul s response is studied against the Corinthians Women s communal meal practice. He changed the course of their communal meal by using the Lord s Supper tradition. And he intended to weaken women s power and prevent them from participating in the communal meal finally. Chapter Five reconstructs who the women were and what they proclaimed. They were among the lower classes but they obtained the upper status in the Corinthian community by using their wealth in the community. Therefore they could not only participate in the communal meal positively but also play a leading role for it.
