목회적 돌봄의 관점에서 본 한국인의 죽음의 제의 이해

Abstract

교회는 건강한 영혼을 양육하는 곳이며, 목회자의 임무는 영혼의 상태를 살펴서 건강하게 인도해 주는 것이다. 목회라는 말은 돌봄과 치유를 포함하는데, 돌봄을 제공하는 역할은 목회자에게 매우 중요한 사명이다. 목회에 있어서 예배는 가장 전형적인 행동이라 할 수 있고, 기독교 공동체는 매순간, 예배 혹은 예식을 통해 나름의 신앙을 유지하고, 표현한다. 그러나 그동안 한국교회는 개인의 구원을 강조하고 내세중심, 부흥회중심, 경건주의 성경중심의 방향으로 발전되어 왔다고 하는 성격이 강하고, 그러한 경향은 제의와 공동체를 중요하게 다루지 않았다는 점이 부각되고 있다. 이와 관련하여 이제 한국 교회는 교인들의 아픔과 상처, 갈등에 대해 적절한 조치와 치유를 행함으로써 그들의 마음을 달래 줄 수 있는 목회적인 제의가 구성되어야 한다는 논의들이 등장하고 있다. 그리고 현대 목회상담학의 과제는 이렇듯 제의를 통한 치유 공동체를 형성하는 데 있다고 하는 주장도 들린다. 이러한 흐름과 관련하여, 본 논문에서는 제의가 가지는 치유적 성격과 목회적 돌봄의 관점에서 제의를 어떻게 볼 것인지를 살펴보았다. 인간은 제의를 통해 다양한 종류의 사회적 혹은 우주적 질서를 만들어가고, 삶의 의미와 방향을 잡아간다. 또한 제의에 참여하는 사람들은 그 속에서 우리 됨 이라고 하는 정체성을 확립해가고, 나아가 새로운 삶에의 가능성을 제공받는다. 목회자는 교회생활에서 다양한 제의들을 제공하고 통합함으로써 교인들의 삶을 의미 있게 종합해주는 책임을 가진다. 목회에 있어 가장 전형적인 행동이라고 할 수 있는 예배가 생기를 잃어버리고, 의미를 잃는다면, 상처입은 교인들을 돌보고 치유하는 목회의 중요한 사명 또한 감당하기 어려워진다. 이러한 목회적 돌봄과 관련하여 본문에서는 목회적 돌봄의 상황으로서 인간의 유한성과 상실이 극명하게 드러나는 죽음 의 문제를 다루었다. 죽음이라는 위기상황에서 거행되는 제의들이 참여자들에게 어떠한 도움을 주는지 고찰하기 위해 본문에서는 죽음에 대한 인식, 죽음의 제의 참여자들의 심리역동, 죽음의 제의의 과정 및 치유적 차원들을 다루었다. 특히 한국인의 죽음의 제의에 대한 이해를 위해 한국인의 전통적인 죽음 인식 및 상례를 다루었고, 오늘날 한국 기독교인들의 죽음인식 및 장례예식에 대한 이해를 다루었다. 한국 기독교의 장례예식은 전통적인 장례의식의 바탕위에서 기독교적인 것과 비기독교적인 것을 구분하는 방식으로 실행되어 왔고, 그와 관련하여 어느 정도까지 토착화해야 하는가 하는 문제가 부각되고 있다. 이처럼 우리의 문화와 삶에 대한 이해 즉 토착화된 문화적 접근없이 순수하게 서구적인 틀로서만 우리의 목회상담, 혹은 목회적 돌봄을 행한다는 것 자체가 한계를 가질 수 밖에 없기 때문에 본 논문에서는 기독교 장례예식에 대한 이해를 위해 한국인의 전통적인 죽음인식 및 상례를 다루었다. 그리고 죽음의 제의의 치유적 차원은 제의의 보편적인 기능으로서 질서를 만들고 유지해 주는 차원 , 공동체를 형성해 주는 차원 , 전이와 변화를 가능케 해주는 차원 에서 살펴보았다. 결론으로서 본 논문은 제의의 치유적 기능 혹은 차원들을 이해하고, 목회적 돌봄이 필요한 상황들 속에서 치유적 제의를 제공함으로써 상처입은 영혼을 돌보는 것이 목회자의 중요한 사명과 책임임을 상기시키고자 했다. 그리고 무미건조하고 지루한 예배에서 벗어나 우리를 예배로 초대하신 하나님과 만나고, 평등과 동질성과 자발성을 포함하는 커뮤니타스로서의 예배를 만들어 갈 필요성을 제기하고자 하였다.; Church nurtures sound souls, and pastor s role is to take care of the souls and guide them correctly. Ministry connotes care and cure, and therefore, the role of care is a very important mission to pastors. In the ministry, ritual is the most typical behavior. The Christian community maintains and expresses their faith every moment or through ritual or rite. Nevertheless, the Korean churches have emphasized individuals redemption, and have developed centered about the world to come, revival congregation, piety and the Bible, neglecting rituals and community. Thus, it is argued that the Korean churches should care and cure fellow Christians pain, scar and conflicts and therefore, that a pastoral ritual should be designed to caress their soul. On the other hand, it is also argued that the challenge of the modern pastoral counselling should be to form a curing community through rituals. Under such circumstances, this study was aimed at reviewing the curing nature of the rituals from the viewpoint of the p astoral care. Men create a variety of social or universal orders through rituals, setting the meaning and direction of life. Moreover, those people participating in the rituals establish the identity of we-ness , and furthermore, explore the possibility of a new life. In this regard, pastors are obliged to provide for diverse rituals in saints church life and integrate them to make saints life meaningful. If the ritual or the most typical behavior in the ministry should lose its vitality and meaning, the important role of the ministry of caring and curing the injured saints would not be properly performed. With regards to the pastoral care, this study dealt with the issue of death which apparently reveals men s limitedness and sense of loss. In order to review how the rituals performed for the crisis or death help the participants, perception of death, participants psychological dynamics, process of the rituals and curing dimension were discussed.
