축적된 시간, 물질화된 공간

Abstract

Human has the instinct to express what he or she sees and feels. This kind of being sees environment such as nature before he or she sees themself. The objects of nature which contain concrete and figurative quality in the continuous changes of birth and extinction stimulate their artistic expressive desire. Therefore, I think that the only thing to fill human beings expression is nature. This kind of nature gives peace to the mind and a comfortble space and it evokes peoples artistic thought. Also, it is based on artistic activity. If an art work is related to nature, it has to be based on the basic relationship between man and nature. This kind of work naturally calls out the basic meaning of nature and the spirit of desire which is the artist s intention. The mental expression that I am intending is expressed by being conscious of nature, my feeling about the phenomenon of nature, and the natures meaning as form. Here the phenomenon of nature itself is shown through the layers. This image of layering is from the continuous cycle of time in the natural phenomenon of nature and it makes people think of time and space. The shape and color which represent my psychological situation and thought, has meaning of metaphore and symbol of expression which contains feeling. I also wanted to show different expression using concept of layers in phenomenon of nature. I placed the idea of daily objects into my work. This can be seen by the frame or molding made on the edge of the work. The everyday image is reorganized to look like furniture and this kind of object can expand to a new thinking in artistic meaning. It could cause people to draw out many different meanings. I took a form of nature and it is basically in harmony between material and spirit such as geometric abstract painting. Consequently when I am doing this, I become aware of open space. My work is also related to Minimalism because the work itself and the space which surrounds my work are simplified. However, my work is rather much spiritual than material and it contains geometric form which is abundantly spiritual and sensous in color. As I mentioned above, my work, which is compromised between two different styles and a complicated aspect, can give new vision and perception to the viewer. ; 인간은 누구든지 본능적으로 보고 느낀 것에 대한 감동을 표현하려는 충동을 가지고 있다. 이러한 인간은 자기 자신을 보기 이전에 먼저 보이는 환경 즉, 자연을 보게 된다. 끊임없이 변화하는 생성, 소멸의 법칙 속에 존재하고 있는 자연대상물들은 물질적인 특성과 조형적인 특성으로 예술표현의 욕구를 자극시킨다. 그러므로 인간의 표현에 대한 충동을 채워줄 수 있는 유일한 것은 ‘자연’이라고 생각한다. 이러한 자연은 정신적 평화와 편안한 휴식의 여유를 주고 정서적 감흥을 유발하게 하여 인간의 미의식이나 예술활동의 토대가 되었다. 따라서 자연을 대상으로 하는 예술작품이라면 자연과 인간과의 보편적 관계가 보여주는 화합의 정신에 기초하여 자연이 갖는 본원적 의미와 내면에 깃든 정신성의 추구가 그 표현의도 속에 작용하기 마련이다. 본인의 작업에서 의도하는 정신성의 표현은 자연 본성의 인식과 자연현상에서 느낀 감정, 그리고 자연에 부여된 의미 등이 형상으로 표현된 것이다. 여기서의 자연은 그 자체가 조형적 아름다움을 지닌 ‘층(層)’을 이루고 있는 모든 자연현상을 말하며, 이것은 끊임없이 변화하는 순환의 흐름이 지속되면서 축적된 이미지로 나타나게 되어 시·공간(時·空間)의 사유를 불러일으키게 한다. 본인의 심리적 상태나 관념적 생각을 대변해 주는 형태나 색채는 상징과 은유의 표현으로서 그 의미를 지니게 되며 대상에의 감정이입을 가능하게 한다. ‘층’에 대한 개념을 가지고 자연현상을 형상화하는 과정에서 본인은 또 다른 맥락으로 층을 이루고 있는 즉, 일상사물의 가장자리에서 보여지는 프레임(frame)이나 몰딩(moulding)을 가지고 일상 사물의 이미지를 개입시켜 표현하였다. 이것은 기능이 없는 사물 이미지로 재구성됨으로써 마치 가구의 형태를 가장하고 있는 듯 보이게 된다. 이러한 오브제 구성은 새로운 관념의 세계로 조형의 개념을 확장시켜 나가고 있으며, 이렇게 고정관념에서 벗어나 표현된 대상은 관람자로 하여금 다양한 해석을 이끌어 낼 수 있었다. 본인의 작품에서 보여지는 단순화된 함축적인 공간의 구성은 미니멀리즘(Minimalism)의 경향과 연관되면서도 사물성 보다는 풍부한 정신성이 반영된 기하학적 추상 형태와 감성적 색채를 지니고 있는 것으로 볼 때 그 차이점을 보이고 있다. 이렇게 절충적이며 복합적인 양상을 띠고 있는 본인의 작업은 물질과 정신을 통해 새로운 시지각적 경험을 얻기 위한 것이다. 그리하여 본인은 자연 대상에서 유도된 형상을 가지고 물질과 정신의 조화를 기본으로한 기하학적 추상회화에서 출발하여, 열린 공간에 대해 새롭게 인식하고 탐구함으로써 다양한 방법으로 작업을 진행시켜 나가고 있음을 보여주고 있다.
