갈색계 자연염료를 이용한 고서화이미지의 텍스타일 디자인 연구 : 커피염색을 중심으로

Abstract

According to Fredric Jameson, after twice World War, Post-Capitalism has come. In era of Post-Capitalism, announcing liberal trading among the independent nation, central nation dominate periphery nation with abundant capital and superior skill, and propagate his culture. Therefore, in the people of periphery nation are confused with there identity. In 20th century, We have had the Identity Conflict and Cultural Extinction. So, the reaction of that, after 1980 s, arising interest of the Traditional Culture, also in the Textile Design. For making the Modern Textile Design reflecting the Traditional Visual Image, I suggest the design methodology as follows : First, summarize of the characteristic of Traditional Visual Image, and survey of the meaning of Old Paintings and Books which are used design source. Second, analyse modeling elements creating peculiar Image of the Old Paintings and Books, and study of the use method of the Moonchi(a kind of special paper) as source and dying method using the coffee, which is the very suitable making technique for expressing of the Image of the Old Paintings and Books. Third, suggest new method of modifying abstracted Image Textile Design. For this, after extracting modeling elements, make fiber works, and create Textile Design based on those. Results of this study are as follows : First, it is more important of existing from than meaning of the Old Paintings and Books. Second, confirmed possibility of nature dying with coffee. We obtained dim Brown through dying of coffee. Third, It is modified or abstracted extend two step to select creating method of using the motif of works. This method is profitable for creating Textile Design with not maintaining Image of the Design source but having liberal imagination. Anyway, I hope that this study is helped to evoke and develop creative imagination for creating World Class Textile Design suing Korean Traditional Image and to improve Textile Design Methodology more systematically. ; 제임슨(Fredric Jameson)에 의하면 2차례의 세계대전 이후 세계는 후기자본주의시대로 돌입하였다. 후기자본주의시대는 독립을 쟁취한 대등한 주권국가간의 자유교역을 표방하면서, 실질적으로 중심부 국가가 월등히 우세한 자본력과 기술력을 이용하여 주변부 국가를 경제적으로 지배할 뿐 아니라, 그들의 문화를 지배문화로 전파하는 시대이다. 이 때문에 주변부 국가의 정체성 갈등(Identity Conflicts)을 겪게 된다. 20세기에 들어 일제시대 및 6.25동란을 겪고, 급속한 서구화, 근대화과정을 거치고 있는 우리나라는 특히 이와 같은 정체성 갈등 및 문화적 단절 현상을 심하게 겪고 있다. 이에 대한 자연스런 반작용으로서 1980년대 이후 우리나라에서는 전통문화에 대한 관심이 크게 고조되었으며, 텍스타일 디자인 분야에 있어서도 1980년대 이후 우리나라 전통의 이미지를 활용한 텍스타일 디자인을 개발하려는 움직임이 일고 있으나, 아직까지 양적, 질적인 면에서 미흡한 실정이다. 이에 본 연구자는 보다 체계적인 방법으로 우리나라 전통적 이미지를 현대적인 텍스타일 디자인으로 개발하기 위하여 첫째, 우리나라 전통의 이미지에 대한 기존 연구 내용을 검토하여 연구자들이 우리나라 전통의 이미지 자료(Traditional Visual Source)로 인식한 내용과 우리나라 전통의 이미지의 특성을 정리하고 그 중 본 연구에서 디자인 자료(Design Source)로 활용한 고서화(古書畵)가 가지는 의미를 검토하였다. 둘째, 고서화의 독특한 이미지를 창출하는 조형요소들을 분석하였으며 고서화 이미지 창출을 위하여 가장 적합하다고 판단된 제품제작 기법인 커피를 이용한 염색방법 및 작품소재로서 문지(紋紙)의 활용방법에 대하여 연구하였다. 셋째, 고서화 이미지를 보다 추상화하여 텍스타일 디자인(Textile Design)으로 변형하는 새로운 방법을 제안하였다. 이를 위하여 본 연구에서는 이미지 자료인 고서화의 조형요소를 추출하고 이를 활용한 섬유작품을 제작한 후 이 작품에서 다시 텍스타일 디자인을 개발하는 방법을 사용하였다. 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 고서화의 독특한 이미지를 형성하는 요소로 고서화의 내용보다 그것이 존재하는 형태가 더욱 중요하였다. 즉, 끈으로 묶은 모양, 손때 묻어 바랜 색 등을 통해 고서화의 이미지를 나타냄으로써 소재주의를 일정 부분 극복할 수 있었다. 둘째, 커피를 염료로 이용한 자연염색의 가능성을 확인하였다. 커피염색을 통해 특유의 은은한 갈색을 얻을 수 있었다. 셋째, 작품 제작 후 작품의 모티브를 활용하여 텍스타일 디자인을 개발하는 방법을 택함으로써 디자인 자료의 변형 또는 추상화를 2단계 걸쳐 실시하게 되었다. 이 방법은 디자인 자료의 이미지는 유지하되 보다 자유로운 상상력을 발휘한 텍스타일 디자인을 개발하는데 적절하였다. 이 연구의 결과가 향후 우리나라 전통의 이미지를 현대적인 디자인으로 계승 · 발전시키는데 조그만 도움이 될 수 있기를 바란다.
