G. B. Pergolesi의 작품 <La serva padrona>를 중심으로 한 희극 opera에 관한 연구

Abstract

본 논문은 Giovanni Battista Pergolesi(l710-1736)의 작품인 <La Servapadrona ; 마님이 된 하녀>를 중심으로 희극 opera에 대하여 고찰할 목적으로 이루어졌다. 더불어 opera의 탄생경로와 각 나라별 희극 opera의 특징을 살펴봄으로써 희극 opera의 효시라고 할 수 있는 <La Servapadrona>가 구성이나 내용면에서 어떠한 희극적인 요소를 포함하고 있는지를 연구의 결과로 얻어내고자 한다. 17세기말에는 서정적인 내용의 opera가 주류를 이루었는데 Pergolesi의Opera seria <Il Prigioniero superbo ; 자부심 강한 죄수>의 막 사이에<La Serva padrona>가 공연됨으로써 당대에 커다란 영향력을 끼치게 된다. 이 작품은 그 후 관중들에게 대단한 호응을 얻어서 막간극이 아닌 독자적인 형식으로 따로 분리되어 공연되어지면서 희극 opera의 위치를 확고히 하게되었다. 따라서 Pergolesi의 작품<La Serva padrona>는 희극opera의 계통적인 발전의 기저로써 opera 장르에 큰 영향력을 파급시킨 인물로 희극 opera라는 독자적인 형식을 갖추게 하는데 크게 기여를 했으므로 연구 할 만한 가치가 있다고 본다. 본 연구는 먼저 opera가 어떠한 과정을 거쳐서 등장했는지 그 탄생경로를알아보고 서정적 opera중심에서 희극적 opera로 발전하게 된 시대적 배경과 그 영향력을 조사하였으며 희극 opera의 특징을 서정 opera와 비교하여고찰하였다. 희극 opera는 특히 서부 유럽에서 눈부신 발전을 하였는데, 그 중에서 이탈리아, 프랑스, 독일의 희극 opera는 어떠한 과정을 거쳐서 발전하게 되었는지를 알아보았다. 그리고 희극 opera의 전형을 보이게 되는 <La Servapadrona>가 당시에 미치는 영향력과 이 작품에 반영된 시대적 상황과 희극적 요소를 극의 내용을 중심으로 알아보았으며 희극 opera의 특징인soubrette(수브레트)의 역할이 주인공의 심리를 통해 어떠한 양상으로 나타나게 되었는지 분석해보았다. 또한 리듬과 선율에 어떻게 반영이 되었는지를 가사의 내용에 비추어서 고찰하였다. 그 결과 이 작품은 여자 주인공인 Serpina (세르피나)의 성격적 묘사를 통하여 당시의 신분적 한계와 계급적인 불평등을 보여주었으며, 결혼이라는수단을 통하여 신분상승을 이루어 냄으로써 상류계급 중심사회에서 서민들중심으로 변화되는 면모를 짐작하게 해주었다. 또한 남자주인공인 Uberto(우베르또)를 통하여 어리석고 우둔한 상류계급의 모습을 풍자하여 그 당시 희극 opera가 서민들에게 관심의 대상이 될 수 있게 만들었다. 따라서이 작품의 역사적 의의는 희극적 opera의 특징을 작품에 잘 흡수시켜 희극opera가 앞으로 나아갈 방향을 제시하여 주는데 있다. ; This thesis intends to understand comique opera by investigating Giovanni Battista Pergolesi s(1710-1736) La Serva padrona. Additionally, this thesis attempts to determine what comical elements are inherent in form and content within La Serva padrona, which is considered a pioneering work of comique opera, by examining the origins and developing stages of opera in general and by understanding the specific characteristics of comique opera in various countries. During the late 17th century when opera seria was the mainstream music, the introduction of La Serva padrona as the intermezzo for Pergolesi s Il Pragioniero superbo brought about a profound influence during this period. The work received wide approval from the audience and was thereafter performed not as an intermezzo but as a unique form, thereby laying down a firm foundation for comique opera. Therefore the fact that Pergolesi was the focal starting point as a person in the systematic development of comique opera and consequently influencing the opera genre as a whole, and the fact that he largely contributed in allowing comique opera to become a unique form, it would be quite meaningful to study Pergolesi s work. This study at first investigates the origins and course of development of opera, and then examines the historic background and influences of the era which enabled the opera seria-oriented styles of the period to develop into comique opera. Finally, opera seria and comique opera are compared in order to determine the characteristic qualities of comique opera. Comique opera was developed to a remarkable extent in Western Europe and the current study will focus on the process in which it was developed in Italy, France, and Germany. Pergolesi s La Serva padrona was a representative form of comique opera during this era, and its influence on the period, its representation of contemporary society, and the comic elements within it are analyzed through an understanding of the elements of the work. The role of soubrette which is a characteristic quality of comic opera and in what form and aspect it is projected through the heroine s state of mind is analyzed, and how it is reflected in the rhythm and melody is analyzed through a comparison with the contents of the verse. As a result this work describes the limitations of a person s rise in social status and discrimination of class through the portrayal of the heroine Serpina s personality, and shows how the social barrier is overcome through marriage as the means and allows us to realize the changing facet of society from an aristocratic-oriented to a commoner-oriented one. Additionally, the foolishness and dullness of noblemen are portrayed through the hero Uberto s personality, and the satirical nature of comique opera allowed it to become a subject of interest and to be embraced by the common folk. Therefore the historical significance of this work may be found in the fact that it successfully assimilated the characteristics of comique opera into a musical piece and that it paved the way in which comique opera was to be further developed.
