TV 역사 다큐멘터리 '역사스페셜'의 역사쓰기 방식에 대하여 : 밀레니엄 특집 "大-고구려 광개토대왕의 정복루트를 가다"를 중심으로

Abstract

"역사는 현재와 과거의 끊임없는 대화라고 한다". 그래서일까? 대중매체에서 다루는 역사 프로그램들이 많은 호응을 얻고 있으며 제작진 또한 새로운 시도를 추구하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 역사를 새롭게 보고자 하는 역사학계의 학문적 배경과 함께 디지틀 기술을 이용하여 새로운 역사 쓰기를 시도하고 있는 <역사스페셜>에 대하여 다음과 같이 연구했다. 본 연구는 크게 두 부분으로 이뤄져 있다. 첫째로는 <역사스페셜>이 어떤 방식으로 새로운 역사 쓰기를 하고 있는지 살펴보았다. 둘째로는 역사 쓰기 방식을 토대로 <역사스페셜>의 사회 문화적 공론장의 역할에 대하여 논의해 보았다. 연구대상으로는 새로운 천년을 맞아 격동과 모순의 20세기를 마감하며 역사 의식을 통하여 우리 민족의 나아갈 길을 제시하는 밀레니엄 특집 <역사스페셜>의 " ‘大 고구려’- 광개토대왕의 정복루트를 가다 "를 연구대상으로 살펴보았다. 본 연구의 결과에 의하면 <역사스페셜>은 새로운 역사 쓰기의 방식인 ‘두껍게 읽기’ 와 ‘작은 것을 통해 읽기’ 그리고 이 두 가지 방식이 중첩되면서 나타나는 ‘깨뜨리기’의 방식을 취하고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 첫째로 ‘두껍게 읽기’의 경우는 사회자의 브릿지 멘트와 이야기 구조를 이루는 <의문>과 <가정>의 언술 체계를 통하여 이뤄지고 있었다. 둘째로 ‘작은 것을 통해 읽기’는 벽화의 그림을 통하여 그 당시의 일상 생활사를 읽는 것으로 나타났다. 마지막으로 ‘깨뜨리기’의 경우는 ‘두껍게 읽기 와 ‘작은 것을 통해 읽기’가 중첩되면서 텍스트 안의 이항대립의 충돌을 통해 나타났다. 위와 같은 방식으로 새로운 역사 쓰기를 하고 있는 <역사스페셜>은 역사에 대하여 새롭게 접근할 수 있는 문화적 공론장의 역할을 하고 있었다. 좀 더 자세히 <역사스페셜>의 문화적 공론장의 역할에 대하여 살펴보면 다음과 같다. 연구의 대상인 광개토대왕의 정복지인 고구려의 옛 유적들은 그 동안 남북 분단으로 인한 접근 불가능과 각기 다른 역사적 정통성의 주장 때문에 TV 역사 다큐멘터리를 통하여 공론화 되지 못했던 것이 사실이다. 이러한 가운데 방송된 <역사스페셜> ‘大-고구려 광개토대왕의 정복르트를 가다’는 고구려 문화를 통하여 우리의 역사를 새롭게 생각해 보도록 하는 계기를 마련해 주었다. <제1편>은 광개토대왕의 서쪽 정복지인 염수의 비밀을 <의문>과 <가정>의 언술 체계를 통해 추적해 가고 있으며 이를 통해 고구려의 서쪽 영토가 주는 의미들을 그물망 처럼 연결하고 있었다. <제2편>은 고구려의 북쪽 정복지인 지두우를 찾아가는 것으로써 고구려인들이 어려움과 난관을 극복하고 어떻게 광대한 영토를 가질 수 있었는지를 생각하게 해 준다. 즉, 고구려의 북방 진출에 대한 <가정>의 실마리를 푸는 과정 속에서 다양한 경로의 추론을 가능케 하고 있으며 이를 통하여 고구려의 북방 진출에 대한 새로운 의미 해석을 가능하게 한다고 볼 수 있었다. <제3편>의 경우 고구려 고분 벽화에 나타난 병사의 못신을 통해 고구려의 문화를 읽는 것으로써 고구려의 철기문화의 우수성을 읽어 나아갔다. 고분 벽화의 작은 그림을 통해 고구려의 철갑기병이 동아시아에서 최고였다는 결론에 도달한다. 이와 같은 역사 쓰기 방식을 통하여 농경문화 뿐만 아니라 철기문화가 가지는 역사적 중요성에 대하여 다시 한번 사고할 수 있도록 문제 제기를 하고 있었다. <제4편>의 경우 고분벽화에 나타난 수레를 통하여 문서자료에 기록되어 있지 않은 그 시대의 일상 생활사를 읽어 나아가고 있었다. 이를 통해 고구려인들의 교통 수단의 중요성과 그들의 의식주의 모습을 통해 분단된 우리가 한민족임을 다시 한번 생각해 보게 했다. 위와 같이 <역사스페셜>의 ‘大-고구려 광개토대왕의 정복루트를 가다’는 우리의 역사교육과 역사 의식에 대한 중요성이 대두되는 시기에 고구려 역사에 대한 새로운 문화적 공론장의 역할을 하고 있었다. 그 동안 냉전과 분단으로 광대한 유라시아 내륙으로의 육상통로가 막히고, 남북이 역사적 정통성의 주장으로 각기 신라와 고구려 중심의 역사적 인식을 내세우면서 철기문화 중심의 고구려는 우리에게도 멀어져 갔었다. 또한 <제3편>이나 <제4편>과 같은 그림 문자를 통한 역사 읽기는 그 동안 이뤄지지 않았던 시도였다. 이러한 점을 감안할 때 <역사스페셜>에서 다룬 ‘大-고구려 광개토대왕의 정복루트를 가다’는 잊혀졌던 고구려의 역사를 새롭게 조명해 주고 있으며 이를 통해 21세기에 우리 민족이 나아가야 할 길과 우리 민족에 대한 공적사고를 할 수 있도록 하고 있었다. ; "History is a successive communication of the past and now." By such reason? The programs about history in media are getting sympathy from audiences, producers are attempting new ways, too. This study researches <History Special> which as trying to describe history newly using digital techniques based on the academic background of historical science s new viewpoint as follows. This study is divided into two parts. First, ist is considered that the new methods of historical description in <History Special>. Second, on the role of <History Special> as a cultural forum thesis discussed on the basis of existing methods of historical description. The subject of study is the millennium special, "Gone to the route of conquering by the great king GwangGaeTo in great Koguryo" which gave a new way to us by historical awareness with the end of 20th century in upheaval and inconsistencies and the start of new millennium. According to the results of this study, <History Special> has the methods of "breaking" in composition of two, new methods of historical description, "thick reading" and "reading with tiny things." First, "thick reading" is constructed by MC s bridge comments and story of <question> and <supposition>. Second, "reading with tiny things" describes the everyday life of those days by murals and pictures. Finally, "breaking" shows the clash of "thick reading" and "reading with tiny things" in the text. In description of new history, <History Special> has a new role of cultural forum for approaching to history. The details of the new role of cultural forum of <History Special> is as follows. The vestiges of Koguryo didn t be discussed in TV history documentaries because of the different contentions and the access -impossible by partition of the Korean peninsula. In such condition, <History Special>, "Gone to the route of conquering by the great king GwangGaeTo in great Koguryo" leaded to a new opportunity for thinking of Korean history. <The 1st part> follows the secret of Yeomsoo which is the western conquering site by the great king GwangGaeTo by the dual structure, <question> and <supposition> and connect the meanings of the western territory of Koguryo just like a network. <The 2nd part> makes us think how the people of Koguryo could get such large territory overcoming much difficulty and barriers in the way of Jiduwoo which is the northern conquering site of Koguryo. Namely, various assumptions can be done in the process of settle the questions of Koguryo s conquest of northern district, and it can be solved that the new interpretation of the meaning about Koguryo s conquest of northern district. <The 3rd part> reads the superiority of the iron culture of Koguryo by a soldier s nailed shoes of a mural in Koguryo ancient tomb. A small picture in murals shows the best quality of iron armor of in Koguryo in the East Asia. Such methods of historical description make us think the historical importance of the agriculture as well as the iron culture once again. <The 4th part> describes the everyday life of those days not recorded in documents by a wagon of a mural in an ancient tomb. We can consider both the importance of vehicles in Koguryo and the identity of us, Koreans by food, clothing and shelter of the people of Koguryo. A s above, <History Special>, "Gone to the route of conquering by the great king GwangGaeTo in great Koguryo" has a new role of cultural forum for approaching to history of Koguryo in this period necessary for the education and awareness of history. The land route to Eurasia has been blocked up by the partition and the cold war, South Korea has asserted a legitimacy using Shilla, whereas North Korea has asserted a legitimacy using Koguryo, so we have been far from Koguryo centering on the iron culture. In addition, it was a unique attempt which has not been tried before that the historical reading by pictorial characters in <The 3rd part> and <The 4th part>. Regarding the above all, <History Special>, "Gone to the route of conquering by the great king GwangGaeTo in great Koguryo" shows the forgotten history of Koguryo, public thinking of Korea and the way for us to go in 21th century.
