상징적 은유기법으로서의 Solarization 연구 : 누드와 꽃의 이미지를 중심으로

Abstract

사진은 기록성을 특징으로 하여 다른 예술 매체와 구분된다. 다게레오 타입(daguerreo type)의 발명 이후 기계의 눈을 이용하여 현실을 정확히 기록해 내는 특성은 사진이라는 메카니즘이 갖는 본질적인 예술성으로 인식되었다. 그러나 자연에 대한 단순한 모방만으로는 더 이상 예술성을 구축하는 충분 조건이 될 수 없다는 예술계 전반의 인식이 확산되었으며 그에 대한 대응으로 현대사진 미학은 대상의 의미성을 중시하는 객관적 표현과 더불어 대상성의 한계를 극복하고 감각을 확장시켜 나가는 주관적인 이미지를 중시하게 되었다. 다시 말해서 사진 메커니즘은 단순한 기록성 이외에도 육안으로는 확인할 수 없으며 사진술만이 보는 방식에 따라 사물을 해석하고 또 다른 방법을 제공해 주는 매체로서 새로운 리얼리티의 창출이 가능하다는 것이다. 예술의 대상이 되는 객체는 사진 메커니즘을 효율적으로 통제하는 개인의 의미부여와 해석에 따라 다양하게 개성적 표현으로 나타날 수 있는 잠재적 가능성을 갖고 있으며 그 결과로서 주관적인 표현인 새로운 또 하나의 리얼리티가 표현되는 것이다. 이에 본 논문에서는 예술가의 창작적인 행위에 포함될 수 있는 ‘은유’라는 개념의 틀을 이용하여 대상간의 의미의 관련성을 새롭게 인식할 수 있는 개념적인 접근을 시도하고 있다. 누드와 꽃을 표현의 객체로 삼고 두 대상이 갖는 의미를 탐색하고 결합시키는 작용을 통하여 상상력이 허용하는 한에서의 감정 이입과 의미의 기반을 연결시키고자 한다. 또한 이러한 상징적인 내용을 효율적으로 표현하기 위해 본 연구는 Solarization이라는 표현 방법을 사용하고자 한다. 이 Solarization이라는 기법은 사진을 만들어내는 필수 요소인 빛의 조작을 통하여 작가의 주관이 허용하는 만큼의 리얼리티를 변화시켜 주관적인 이미지를 창출할 수 있는 가능성을 가지고 있다. 이러한 본 논문 작품의 이론적인 배경으로는 은유의 개념에 대한 고찰과 사진이 기록성을 벗어나 주관적인 가치관에 의해 예술적 시각이 확장되는 과정 중 진행된 여러 가지 사진에 대한 역사적인 담론들을 살펴볼 것이다. 또한 역사적인 배경으로는 개인적 표현을 중요시하고 주관성이 있는 새로운 차원의 기록을 정립하려는 목적을 가진 ‘주관주의 사진’과 사진을 통해 내면 세계에의 접근을 시도하여 차원 높은 리얼리티에 기반을 둔 초현실주의에 대해 고찰해 볼 것이다. 인간의 내면적인 의식의 차원과 대상의 본질이 발산하는 의미의 복합으로서 해석되어야할 사진이라는 매체의 성격은 앞으로도 더욱 확장되어 복잡한 표현매체로서 자리잡을 것이며 이에 사진이 표현할 수 있는 주관적 표현의 영역도 무한한 발전 가능의 잠재성을 가지고 있다고 하겠다. ; Photography differentiates itself with other art medium in its unique ability to record. After the invention of the daguerreo type, the ability to accurately record reality through the eye of a machine(camera) was regarded as the substantial artistry of the mechanism of the camera. However, with the widespread notion of the art community that mere copying of nature is not an enough condition in establishing art, the esthetics of Modern Photography came to focus on objective expressiveness which concentrates on the meaningness of the object, and subjective images that overcome the boundaries of objectivity and broadens the senses. Thus the mechanisms of photography, besides its mere ability to record, interprets objects which cannot be verified through the eyes but only through photographic methods. And as a medium that offers other methods it also enables the creation of a new reality. An object of art has the latent ability to appear in various individualistic expressions according to the interpretation and the meanings that are given by the photographer(individual) who efficiently controls the mechanism of photography. Resultingly a fresh new reality, a subjective expressiveness, is given expression. This thesis, by using the concept of metaphor which is also an artistic creative performance, attempts at a conceptual approach that perceives the relationship of the meanings between objects. With the nude and flower as the object and by examining and combining the meanings of the two objects, the thesis aims at linking empathy and meaning within the limits of imagination. In order to efficiently express the symbolic context the thesis will employ color Solarization method. Solarization method, by maneuvering light the essential element of photography, has the ability to create and produce subjective images by transforming reality in as much as the photographer allows it. For the logical background of the thesis, along with the concept of metaphor we will look into the historic discourses of various photographs which have been made while photography overcame its documentariness and through subjective point of view spread its artistic views. For historic backgrounds, Subjectivism Photographs which centers on personal expressiveness and aims at establishing a different level of subjective documentarying , and Surrealism which is founded on a higher level of reality through attempt at approach to the internal world through photographs will be dealt with. The nature of the photograph, which should be interpreted as the inner consciousness of the human being and the combination of meanings that the object emanates, will expand and eventually become a complex medium for expressiveness. Thus it would be no exaggeration to say that the photographs realm of subjective expressiveness has a vast potential of development.
