도시경관체계로서의 보행자가로 환경디자인 연구

Abstract

20세기 동안 인류는 과학기술의 발전을 통한 경제성장과 물질적 풍요를 이룩하였다. 경제성장을 통해 인류는 경제적 빈곤을 해결할 수 있었으나 너무 많이 생산하고 소비하는 과오를 저지르게 되었다. 무한한 성장과 이성에 대한 믿음은 인류로 하여금 과잉 생산, 소비하게 만들었고, 지구의 환경과 생태계의 파괴까지 초래하였다. 새로운 천년(New Millennium)을 맞이하는 이 시점에 지구의 환경은 너무나 많이 파괴되어 있다. 도시는 탄생 이래 인간 생활의 중심이 되어왔으나 과학기술의 발전과 인구과밀화 현상으로 인해서 환경의 질이 떨어진 상태이다. 서울은 급속한 사업화로 발전된 도시이기 때문에 다른 대도시에 비해서 그 문제점이 심각하다고 할 것이다. 특히 거대 도시화하면서 자동차의 수는 증가하고 도시의 보행환경은 더욱 악화되고 있다. 이에 연구자는 서울의 보행환경을 개선하는 것이, 서울의 인지성과 상징성을 높이고 가로의 장소성을 향상시킬 수 있다고 보고 보행자전용가로연구를 제안하였다. 본 연구는 가로의 장소성(sence of place)을 강화시키기 위한 과학적, 준 과학적(scientific, semi-scientific)이론을 연구함으로서 환경에의 적용을 위한 디자인 방법론을 진행시킨다. 첫째, 도시환경속에서의 가로의 개념과 의미에 대해서 고찰해보고, 보행의 의미와 서울의 보행자가로의 문제점을 살펴본다. 둘째, 도시 경관체계로서의 보행자가로 디자인의 이론적 틀을 제시하고 이를 연구의 대상지에 적용시켜 디자인 언어를 도출한다. 셋째, 도시의 상징성과 인지성, 보행자가로의 장소성의 관점에서 디자인의 타당성을 검토하고 연구의 결과가 서울의 보행환경의 개선 가능성을 갖는다는 것에 의의를 둔다. ; Environmental Design is a study on the relationship between human beings and environment. That is the mutual relationship between human behavior and physical environment. Environment, itself, consists of living units, known as organic bodies and this body recreates it s own unique environment. Environment can be self-living organism. To view and to grasp the meaning of a city as a living whole, We should first notify, acknowledge and respect it s self regulation. This newly formed whole should be able to focus on it s environmental regulation other than it indivisual form. It should also pay careful attention to the liviliness, regulating to the general atmosphere of the city s environment. To integrate all aspects of the road design so that the end product will be a coherent whole, a unique part of the outside environment which people will enjoy. This requires a good understanding of the various disciplins involved. Secondly it is necessary that designers clearly comprehend the desirable attributes of roads depending on their purpose. Detailed consideration is given to townscape and flowing alignment. As the result of the research, a city s environment design involves scientific knowledge and high-standard artistic sense, and reflects the present and upcoming future. It s a important way of presenting true cultural, symbolic identity and as an artistic feature. Beyond that, it reflects a city as a living environment. On it s own my aim and understandings lies on each identity of the individuals and presents a direction or a method for increasing basic living standards of all mankind. 1. For understanding his or her environment, place and rout are crucial. Therefore, to perceive city environment, the rout can be important. 2. In 20th century, car is the most important transportation system. And rout is designed to afford cars. We can spend the longiest time on the rout in our daily lives. So we have to focus on street design. 3. Seoul has a lot of problems. And among them, pedestrian streets have serious problems. It s almost impossible for people to walk safely and pleasantly. If we improve the quality of our streets, we can make Seoul s image better, at the same time. 4. The study of specific theories about streets can be useful for making better pedestrian environment. I can expect that the stratigic use of theories make pedestrians feel comfortable. 5. Through this study, we can design streets not just as trasportation system but as the place. It not easy to predict new millenium s city environment. And we don t know what kind of transportation system we will use in the future. But no matter how developed transportations system we sill use, we will have to dependent on this primitive getting around will. Walking on the streets is not only the primitive means of the transportation, but also the sharing of information or communication.
